Because the game is amazing. One of a kind kind of amazing.

Sony fanboys will vote against it because it's no longer exclusive. They did send death threats when FF went multiplatform.

Cow here. MGS5 has been my GOTY since the release date announcement.
Halo and Forza and all your other rehashes won't even be on the shortlist.
Problems I've had with MGSV so far
-Resource gathering is ridiculously tedious
-A lot of side ops are Fulton extraction missions where you have to abduct someone
-Main story takes too long to progress, it feels like I have to do chores before we get to the next pivotal plot point
It's a damn good game but I'd take Fallout 4, Halo 5, Xenoblade Chronicles X or Super Mario Maker over it for my GOTY

Sure. Everyone should believe whatever you say, you're very honest. lol

Ask your parents to hide away all sharp objects and prescription drugs in October for when Halo 5 falls flat on its face, I'd hate to see you do something rash out of bitter frustration, NyaDC.
It's between Witcher 3, MGSV, And Fallout 4.
MGSV looks like to have the best gameplay.
Witcher 3 for story and characters.
Fallout 4 for exploration.
And I go with what I like the most which is best gameplay. But the in the recent negative light MGSV has been under I think it has hurt its chances of GOTY.
why it shouldn't be game of the year
1) Boring outdated "stealth" gameplay
2) Slow, boring, too much cut scenes
3) anyone who still likes MGS has to be out of nosaglia
Don't care about MGS, so i watched the ending, including the secret true ending.
For a series known for majorand batshit nuts twists and shocking reveals, that was...............................pretty fucking weak. Unless i missed something.

Have not played MGS5 yet but from what i have seen it has a very good and i am really stoked about getting it for christmas even though it will be the 360 version.
'Halo and Forza and all your other rehashes won't even be on the shortlist.'
This is true but to be fair it goes for the playstation 4 Exclusives as well.

One thing I'm enjoying about discussion surrounding this game is that it's oh so easy to tell who hasn't played it.
1) Nothing is outdated about the gameplay, on the contrary it's the freshest "AAA" experience to come out in years.
2) The game plays at whatever pace you prefer, and cutscenes are so few and far between that I'll find myself playing for hours without the slightest bit of exposition. It's front loaded for the first hour, but after that you're dropped into a brilliant sandbox that's overflowing with different gameplay systems vying for your attention. You can easily go for 3 or 4 hours without interruption and when a story event does pop up it's short and to the point.
3) I think MGS1 is just ok, MGS4 is garbage and Peace Walker is meh. The only previous games in this franchise I hold in high regard are MGS2 and MGS3. When people were cheering for MGS4 out of nostalgia, I was calling it a piece of shit. With all that said, this is one of the finest games I've played in 28 years of gaming and I still haven't even scratched the surface.

Aside from Super Mario Maker how do you know any others will be good games? You decide on GOTY before they release?
That makes sense
Witcher 3
Witcher 3 already won GOTY.
At this point I can easily say MGS5 is a contender as is Bloodborne imo. But the Witcher 3 is the front runner to me. The credits thing really grinds me in MGS5. So stupid.
@cainetao11: Some say it will be Fallout 4. But the thing that baffles me is, why does a game that comes out let's say late October-December can be consider GOTY within that year with little to know if the game was a hit? I find it hard to believe that Fallout 4 is consider GOTY when it's gonna release late November. MSG5 makes sense cause it's still early September.
Honestly it's a toss up between MGSV, TW3 and Fallout 4. Personally all 3 deserve goty cause this year has been pretty spectacular
While I enjoyed The Witcher 3 I feel it's unfair to compare it to MGS5. CDPR didn't exactly focus on gameplay mechanics and character controls like Kojima Productions did.
@davillain-: Its why I didn't mention Fallout 4. I haven't played it yet. How do I know if its GOTY material. It has GOTY hype, that's for sure.

When isn't a main Bethesda title GOTY material?
I know there's a group of people who give Bethesda shit for watering down the RPG elements of their games after Morrowind (greatest game of all-time in my eyes), but it's not some huge deterrent for me.
I still sunk countless hours into Skyrim, Oblivion and Fallout 3.
Had a damn blast doing so.
Witcher 3 and MGS V are damn good games, but am I ever going to sink even a fraction of the amount of time into those games that I'll surely sink into Fallout 4?
Hell no. I already put Witcher 3 on the back burner over a month ago. And after I finish the campaign in MGS V, I doubt I'll end up sinking a ton of time into the multiplayer unless it just totally blows my tits off.
It doesnt matter. This year has been fantastic and one of the best in recent memory: Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, MGS V... soon Fallout 4, Halo 5, Hitman... Jesus
So far there has been on GS
3 10s (W3, MGS V, Journey)
3 9s (Bloodborne, Mario Maker, Ori and the Blind Forest
4/5 can be played on PS4
3/5 can be played on xbox
1/5 can be played on the WiiU
And people say the PS4 has no games...

I fully admit, I haven't played it. I haven't card about the MGS franchise in quote some time. But I have seen people play it to see if anything has changed. It does look more sandbox like, But I don't see how it separates itself from "average" games like watch dogs, far cry, just cause etc. it's still pretty much the same as any sandbox game.
1) The knocking on walls so people wall over and button prompt to take them out is the definition of outdated game play. I will admit overall it looks better then past MGS but nothing screams GOTY to year about it. The parachute is cool instead of having to hide bodies in the dark though.
2) that's good to know
3) I fully admit i never cared for the series

To each their own. I put in over 120 hours into W3 and I am playing it again, although I am stopping to play MGS. W3 is to me, what Bethesda games are for you evidently.
It's going to be a great game but it'll win GOTY because it's popular and "Hideo Kojima said his goodbye with this masterpiece GOTY" will make a better and more dramatic article.

Cause it looks better than F3 and NV (still probably won't beat Fallout 2 though).

what?
The winner should be The Witcher 3. The actually winner will be MGSV. And the one people want it to be will be Fallout 4. Other than the Witcher 3 having questional gameplay at best everything else about it was top of the line IMO (FLAME SHEILD ON) I found the story to be engaging even the side quests were good. The character were all very unique and interesting. Witcher 3 so far is my favorite game this generation.
While I enjoyed The Witcher 3 I feel it's unfair to compare it to MGS5. CDPR didn't exactly focus on gameplay mechanics and character controls like Kojima Productions did.
Not to make this a MGSV v Witcher 3 debate, or even a Witcher 3 debate, mazel tov to anyone that digs the shit out of The Witcher. But, them not "focusing" on the gameplay mechanics and character controls, you know the interacting part of an interactive medium, isn't exactly a defense or even justified. Of all the things they shouldn't be forgiven for, gameplay related short comings is the big one.

I agree with you, and that's why I believe MGSV will take GOTY. But some people care more about storytelling, sidequests, atmosphere, worldbuilding etc. in their RPGs, and it's hard to convince those people that Witcher 3 isn't GOTY.
Initially I was very forgiving of The Witcher 3's gameplay shortcomings (since the combat isn't bad, it's just average) but as the game progressed I couldn't deny that the actual act of playing the game grew tiresome. Now, I can say that I even enjoyed Bloodborne more.
I'm not a big fan any of the big three contenders. I think Fallout 4 has more appeal than MGSV and W3 though. MG games are weird, W3 had mediocre combat and I find Fallout games boring/grindy
I'm gonna vote Halo 5. Solid campaign, solid MP no micro transactions
.

I have accepted I am in a minority on this board when it comes to Witcher 3 gameplay mechanics. I seriously have no idea what people are bitching about. I press buttons, the character performs actions. I learn the nuances of every games particular controls and adjust to them. The fucking game is absolutely stellar, I have fun in combat, in exploration. I don't think the devs at CDPR need to be forgiven for anything.

Im not enjoying it so far, very limited things and repetitive minimal dull missions, traveling through the maps is annoying an takes a long time to get to places.
Most guns are useless unless they have a suppressor, so Im just using the same two guns over and over but their suppressor wears out quick too.
There is nothing at Mother Base...
I know it will get better, but for fucks sakes its dreadful right now at 15 hours. Plus barely has happened story wise and what has happened is just a bunch of wired random nonsense that gets no explanation.
MGS V won't be GOTY for me. Probably because I haven't played it, I hate games that encourage people to avoid everything in the fucking game. Stealth games are for people who like the idea of games but don't actually want to play them, so they sneak around a lot feeling good about the fact they don't have to actively got involved in a videogame but can tell their friends they're down with it all.
Yeah, stealth games. I've got their number. And the people who play them. Sussed.
