Why Rockstar made it's new game Agent a PS3 exclusive.

Rockstar has explained why it has made its new game Agent a PS3 exclusive. According to RockStar, at this phase when you are trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can help you launch it. Through going exclusive, you also get more first party support.

"At this phase in the cycle, when you're trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can really help you launch the franchise. It can give you the kind of platform that you need to start exclusive, start in the right kind of way with the right kind of partner. Exclusivity does work", Feder went on.

Agent is being overseen by the Housers, founding fathers of Rockstar. Development is being handled by Rockstar North, the studio behind GTA IV.

This game has the potential to be great. I have faith in Rockstar.

Nice to see Rockstar doing something innovative and exciting (as always).

I don't want to think about this game too much though, because it's obvious we will be waiting years for it.

Yep, exclusivity is a great way to get the hype train going on a new franchise. Then you can always make it multiplat six months later, anyway.

Why would it matter so much to XBOX fans if Sony paid for it to be exclusive? Don't be hipocrits. Microsoft does it WAY more often.

Plus Microsoft keeps coercing Developers to port (or split development) of previously exclusive titles. Sony has to do this to be able to stay competitive. Exclusives are just there for fanboys to extend their e-peens in the faces of rival fanboys.... whereas those of us with even a grain of intelligence and a true love for gaming couldn't give a stuff what platform a game is on, because we own all the platforms and can enjoy any game we like.

And don't come over all "well some of us can't afford all 3 consoles". Bull. If you can save enough money for one console with a few games, you can save enough for the other consoles too, it just takes those two little things called desire and willpower. I.E. how much do you really want it? what are you willing to sacrifice to get it?

And if for some reason yougenuinely can't afford more than one console, taking to bashing the others to make your broke-a$$ feel better is just not cool. maybe that's why you're broke.

I'll be following Agent very closely indeed, those Houser brothers just seem to have a magic touch.... can't wait to see this game in action.

1- You can't trivialize other people's opinions by saying something is a 'subjective opinion' (which is a pleonasm: all opinions are subjective. according to Nietsche everything is, but that's a different discussion) in a post that's full of passing of your own opinion as fact.

2- It wasn't Nintendo who invented mainstream gaming. I played Atari, Commodore 64 and Amiga before Nintendo even existed as did many of my friends.

1 good exclusive on the PS3? Right. And with the inferior multiplatsyou're pushing it, or at least you're generalising. The only major title to which this applies for the last year would be Fallout 3. Aside from that multiplats are pretty much all equal. Sony having stronger first and second party support implies them getting more and better exclusives in the long run. MS can't keep paying for 3rd party support (they can but their shareholders won't let them) to keep up in terms of exclusives. So if you consider yourself a 'multiplat man'which you do then why don't you own multiple platforms so you can play all the good gams both platforms have to offer.

I'm willing to bet GTA4 was going to be a timed exclusive, it wouldn't makesense to trade GTA4's fullexclusivity for an unproven franchise.
