GT5 is having a patch this week to fix some issues, didn't they test the game during dev., if the patch can be made so fast and can fix these issues, why didn't they patch their game before release ??!!!!

I am not talking about GT in particular, many games suffer the same thing.

They were most likely rushed to release the game.

May be, but one more week isn't really that long, I am actually surprised at how fast these patches are made.

Because they decided to get straight around to working on updating it after it went gold?

You'd think all those delays would've given them more than enough to time to ensure the game was polished. :?

It's probably an easy fix, or/and one that they started working on after they started printing the discs.

They probably were working on the patches even when the discs were being made, I mean it makes sense.

Because their publisher gave them a deadline. No dev wants to release an unfinished product unless it's such a huge mess that they just want to be rid of it.

Edit: In the case of GT5, I guess PD was given a task that was close to impossible to do at all with the current dev tools

I think Polyphony just bit off more than they could chew with GT5.

Because they can't test the game in every way. I mean, there is a chance that you can, for example in GT5 to do 5 liccense tests in a row, and right after place 5 in a race to shortly thereafter quit the game. Now this probably doesn't exist in the game, but it can be stuff like that, so they oatch it when the bugs get revealed.

The update of GT5 is to fix some online issues caused by the heavy traffic of online players and to add a couple of features that lets the host control the type of cars that can participate in a race. Right now players online are only using Nascar cars to race because they are the fastest so there's no chance for you to use any other car if you're playing for a chance to win.

After the game went gold and went into production, developers usually are keep working on the game, fixing anything wrong they didn't spot before gold... That's why there are games are being patched after a day or a week after release date...

Give them credit for paying attention and fixing what's glitched.

Any patch is better than no patch at all, as long as the patch isn't buggy.

What's wrong with GT5 was entirely preventable. What moron doesn't know that you have to use asynchronous network access if it's in the same thread as the UI?

They can test all they want internally, but until you get actual paying customers playing the game, they can't possibly weed "all" of them out. Now that people are playing it, they're bound to find a lot of bugs that need fixing. They're doing a great thing.

Could be many reasons. They can only do testing for so long, before they start preparing the shipments for the game, which can sometimes take months in itself. During that time, they're still working on the game, seeing what else they can do to finetune it.

The game goes gold a month or so before it gets to retailers. If a patch is one week after release then it took them 5 or so weeks to make the patch.

What better testers and bug finders are there besides us that play the game and post these small things on the net?. I mean there will be millions of us.

Ermm...devs finish a game weeks before it lands on shelves. So a week after release most of the time means a month after the game was done. That's plenty of time to find stuff to fix

Before games could be patched. They would just release with whatever bugs/glitch that was found after going gold.

Thank goodness for internet updates!

pretty much this. Developers are still human beings and sometimes they miss a glitch in the game after they start shipping to stores. I really wouldn't complain about them trying to fix the game as quickly as possible.

Because weirdly enough 1 million or more testers find more little issues than a small team of testers can.

because when you go gold, you HAVE to release at that date, no exceptions.

this leaves room for many rough edges around release time. i have no problem with patches, as long as they don't downgrade the game even more.

Because they are pushed into releasing months before htey wanted to.

Also its a great way to ADD to an already amazing game.

Look at Team Fortress2 on PC.. that game had about 4 levels, 3 modes and only 3 items for each cahracter.. NOW? Its been patched about 1000 times.. now with 5 or 6 items each class, thousands of maps, over 10 modes and tons of improvements to the core gameplay.

IMO this is great what Poly has done, dude said that they GT5 will onyl get better with monthly updates... Valve does updates to there games with more content, so does Stardock games and I LOVE it. They care about there community and want to HEAR what the community wants first and then they add mroe stuff. THis is how comapnies should be imo. Open to adding to there game for years down the road.

Poly are greedy company afterall.

5 years to develop a under achieving game. You would of thought they wouldn't have to release patches this early and could of been done in the 5 year time frame.

Cod is another game to mention that has to release patches to fix their games.

and fallout games require patches yet still never fixes the main problems
