You might remember me from my previous thread: Why Sony 'Lost' E3. In the same style (please excuse my lack of creativity), I present Why Sony 'Lost' GamesCom.
Because people came expecting 2 announcements from Sony's conference.
The first announcement was the PS3 Slim. After getting it, they downplay it by saying, "we knew it was coming" (non-sequitur), "its ugly" (i remember people saying the same of the PS3) and also, "its going to have overheating problems (i see a 34% reduction in power consumption).
The second announcement was the PS3 price cut."It should have happened last year." I take this statement to mean that you would have bought it last year if it had the price drop then. Given that the PS3 has seen the following highly rated exclusives within the last year: LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, and inFamous, why would your desire to purchase a PS3 diminish? Its the hefty $100 price cut most of you have been asking for.
What about the immense update the PSN store is receiving? Videos and music stores are actually being extended to other regions, unlike the XBox 360's Netflix service. Not to mention comics. Saying you don't care about any of this doesn't exactly negate the fact that this is going to appeal to a lot of other users.
And the 3.00 firmware update, which brings PSN yet another step closer to XBL.
If you're wondering about the GT5 '09 announcement that people were expecting, look no further than TGS, September 24-27.
[10:19] People who preorder Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 between October 1-10 will receive a free download of Gran Turismo PSP.
That's a winning combo.
A $299 system that serves not only as a great multimedia hub, but also a games console offering a library of great exclusives and free online. The argument that the 360 has a bigger/better library of games doesn't sit well with me. Firstly, that does not mean I can't own a PS3 too. Secondly, if I had to choose between a 360 and a PS3, why buy a 360 over a PS3 now when I could have done it a year ago?
The truth: In the past year, apart from a bunch of multi-plats shared with the PS3, the XBox 360 has only the following to crow about: Netflix and Avatars. The 360 is stagnating.
On the other hand, the PS3 has: LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, inFamous, Playstation Home. Video and Music stores.
You can be a stubborn fanboy. Or you can be a gamer.
Once again, thanks for reading.
