Top Notch, Highly ranked, internet updatable BLU-RAYPlayer? Hello, HDTV owners!
The Controller is absolutely fantastic, and as a gamer I'm happy to have it!I feel sorry for those that miss out on any awesome games this generation from the Wii to 360 to PS3, it's sad.
Pro's:
1. Upgradable HDD - can use any standard laptop HDD that can be bought at prices which aren't ridiculously inflated.
2. Reliable hardware - say what you will about the software but PS3's are built very well and have a pretty low failure rate considering it uses fairly new technology.
3. Built-in wifi - no expensive dongle required.
4.Free online - may not be perfect, but the service is more than fair considering its free.
5. Blu-ray - not a big deal for everyone, but is a nice plus.
Well, this thread is kinda a bust, it started with a bad premise, I guess. :)
Good gaming to all, and enjoy the consoles at home. :)
---------------
Yeah the 360 is so much more attractive, that shade of red is beautiful.
PublicNuisance
You know, I never thought about that!
I usually am so ANGRY, and full of rage when I get RROD, that I never thought to actually enjoy it's beauty...Good Call! :)
1. Controller - Same old uncomfortable design made worse with loose sticks and horrid L2 R2 buttons. 2. Slow load/download times, this includes updates too. 3. Big budget titles focused too much on graphics and realism - Fun factor isn't there. 4. Poor Advertisements - Sony either just don't care or can't do it. 5. Promises made and broken. (originally thought to be something incredible, tech-wise) IMO, these are the reasons many don't fancy the console. Consoles should be about simplicity and easy access, not install times and harddrives/features no one cares about. Sadley consoles are becoming PC's. Thoughts? Sniper-PIG
well you should change title to 'Why I'm not interested in the PS3'
cause the reasons you gave dont make much sense imo..
1) Controller:- some find it ok, others think its not (specially for shooters).. Personally have no probs with it though i do find the 360 controller to be better.
2) Slow updates, i give you that its true.. But its not like we have to download updates on a daily basis..
3) Games :- fun factor isnt there??????? Thats a subjective thing, whats fun for you isnt necessarily fun for me, that applies to video games too..
4) Advertising:- so you decide which console to get based on the marketing/advertising scheme of a company? i thought we get consoles for games and surely with gaming sites / mags we can get all the info about upcoming titles.. Dont need TV adverts todecide which games to get, usually previews / reviews help much more decide which games are good/bad..
5) Promises :- all companies BS about their products, Sony is no exception.. however they didnt lie, they promised a great console, with Blu-ray, Online capabilites,WIFI, multimedia functions which could produce amazing looking games and guess what.......... THEY DID deliver.. Check out the PS3 it has all these features, a solid Free online service & some amazing exclusives..

Too bad i cant play Uncharted at the moment! Great job, Sony!!
Yea, the online is free. But look what we get! Pathetic firmware updates, PSN Store 1-2 new products once every 2-3 weeks, And why use a Blu-ray player when i can download HD movies? :?

3- You have to pay to play something online. You already played $60+ for a new game, why pay even more to play online. 4- It is loud, I mostly play at night and it is ****ing loud. .Maqda7
You pay to play online, so what do you get in return? Annual system updates with amazing features every time! Thats why MS can create the NXE, yet Sony can only shell out a 3.0 Firmware update that freezes games and adds a grey square behind friend's names... :?
Loud? Install the game!!!

I can play Uncharted just fine, sorry to hear about that.
You do know that the HD DL movies are not NEARLY the same visual quality as Blu-Ray right? I thought you may have been able to tell just by the DL size alone.(Not too mention the Sound, Features, etc.)
Various sites have gone beyond that of course, and actually compared BLU to an HD DL, but you know that and are kidding around, I think.
I hope to god that you knew this...

So i dont have to waste gas and 20 minutes of my life for a disc that costs more than a HD download... Anyway BR is dead before it even got started! Digital distribution is the near future of all entertainment.

If you actually read the reports you will find that Blu Ray has grown market share wise over the past few years. The movies are now cheaper and Blu Ray players are going down in price. DVD sales are still higher but Blu Ray has been growing faster.

come down fro cloud cukoo land for a momennt and realise and remember there was a few big things about NXE bricking systems at one point and causing a dreaded E64 error or whatever its called.Point being is 3.0 hasnt caused any brickings that have been highly publicized MS is far from being a saint hen it comes to FW updates but hardcore lems like yourself are easy to spot with this bullcrappery.

Digital Distribution will never fully take over the selling of hard copies. That would be just wrong, to make sure that never happens I'm actually never going to download a game or movie. :) I'm looking at my collection of video games, music and movies; and i just love it! I love looking at them, each time I do I remember how hard I worked to get all of it. It just looks a lot more fancier.and yet xbox360 fanboys claim these boards are run by ps3 fanboys lol
keep up the good work lemmings thanks to you great advice i will burn my ps3 and get another xbox360 just incase my first one RROD

That all sounds pretty reasonable.
I actually miss the days of the NES/SNES etc when you could simply plug in a cart, turn on the machine, and you were playing a game a couple of button presses later with little to no info/warning screens to wade through and no overly complicated menus/options to decipher and so on. Even though I like a lot of the new features and options on current consoles I really just want consoles to be as simple and immediate to use as they used to be.
IMO of course
- Less exclusives
- Less multiplats (not full third party support - Valve, Bioware, etc...)
- Inferior looking/performing multiplats
- Overrated graphics (360 is just as powerfull)
- 15 years old controller
PAL360
if its not broken dont fix it
why dont u bring up the fact that the xbox360 copied the button layout of the 15 year old controller because of the crapy job they did the the xbox controler and s-controller

I never said 360 has most original controller ever. Still, i think its the most perfectly ergonimic controller i have ever used.

From another thread:
Don't forget the N64's controller! Most people didn't realise or bother but you could use 2 64 controllers as a dual analog controller for Goldeneye and PD. It actaully worked better than a single controller once you got good. Flanker15
100% agree and I actually think it was more ergonomic and comfortable holding two N64 controllers via their center prongs for dual analog control than it is to hold any of the current dual analog controllers. It's like combining the split controller design of the Wiimote/Nunchuck with the dual analog of the other controllers for the best of both worlds and it's actually how I think Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony should do similar dual analog/motion controllers in the future.

1. I grew up on the PSone and PS2 controllers and so I'm more comfortable with it than I am with the 360.
2. Honestly, I think that's more down to your internet connection. Mine downloads things fine.
3. That's down to the individual software developers. Same argument can be said for the 360.
4. I don't really look at adverts when I'm playing games. >_>
5. Again, same could be said for the 360. Most people, if they're not very tech-savvy, will steer clear of the more complex stuff.
2. Honestly, I think that's more down to your internet connection. Mine downloads things fine.AirGuitarist87NO. The way the PS3 does it, is when it updates games (obviously talking about downloadable games, not regular games) or the system, it redownloads the ENTIRE thing. When the 360 patches games or updates, it ONLY downloads the patch. So, while the speed may be the same, the amount is vastly different.
I doubt it. Most people prefer hard copies because if it buggers up you can always take it back to the shop. If you no longer want it, you can always just sell it. I have a very visual-based memory so I can watch a movie once and then never watch it again, so renting is a more obvious choice for me. Plus, most places in the world don't have very fast or reliable internet connections (yet) so it would technically be quicker to walk/drive/bus your way to the shops, buy it, and come back.So i dont have to waste gas and 20 minutes of my life for a disc that costs more than a HD download... Anyway BR is dead before it even got started! Digital distribution is the near future of all entertainment.

On that note: OP The playstation controllers have won awards for their design, in fact the controller best fits all sizes of hands. It is much more intuitive than the 360 controller. There are a ton of great games on the PS3 and with its GPU can handle that great graphical quality. If you prefer the kiddy image saturated games, just stick to the Wii. Finally, the fact good consoles are becoming more like PC is a GOOD THING. Who in their right mind would think its becoming a bad thing? One of the major complaints some of you have against PC gaming is the cost of a gaming rig. IF consoles become more like PC gaming, this means you can have console prices for that PC rig you envy.

Ok.. I agree with most of the things you wrote but, stop pushing the reliability thing! The PS3 suffers from YLOD/BLOD so chances are (like the 360) your PS3 will die. Also, WiFi is not a stable or reliable connection method & not nearly as fast as a wired connection so it really blows for gaming.2. YOU may WANT to believe that but really...digital distribution and cloud services, or something along those lines, are the future of all entertainment and anyone with any clue knows that. Hard copies will become niche and for collectors as did vinyl and tape and CD and as DVD and even BLUE RAY will soon and so on and on.

I've found a lot of the high profile cutting edge current gen games lack the sense of 'play' that older games seemed to really embrace and instead have focused on the presentation, graphics and story more than the actual fun of the play experience.
It's maybe just my take on it but a lot of modern games despite all their flashy presentation and graphics and all the layers of content and depth etc feel a little bit hollow and soulless.
Great highly polished controls and really fun gameplay seem to have been slightly pushed to the side for things like cinematography, story and character, that are more the strength of non interactive films rather than true strength of interactive videogames.
SolidTy already responded as needed. Thank you for nearly always being sensible when the rest of us fail.
are the updates that take seconds for retail games?JandurinYep, i had one fast update with Mirror's Edge. So i don't think so it download something that you already have. LBP have most big updates since it download whole DLC's to support levels made by them, so it most slow updates in PS3 games.
