Why the Xbox 360 could compete very well with the PS3 in 2008

I'm going to buy an Xbox 360 soon (once I have the money). The PS3 just doesn't have the games that I want and its cheapest model isn't backwards compatible. I'm not bashing it, I may buy one eventually when it's a lot cheaper. I already have a Wii, and it's great.

The PS3 probably has the best new games coming out this year. Big exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Killzone 2, and Little Big Planet. However, Microsoft might have the upper-hand overall this year. To begin with, there's a huge backlog of games from 2007. The people on GameTrailers TV were talking about this. Also, the console is still cheaper than the PS3. Finally, it all depends on the overall product coming from Microsoft and other developers from now until Q4. So far, Microsoft should have a big hit with Banjo Kazooie 3 set for release in late 2008 (I kind of expect more information on this game at GDC), and then there's Halo Wars which a lot of Halo fans will probably buy. Rumored is Gears of War 2, which could go head to head with Resistance 2.

So, it all depends on future game announcements. I'm sure that Microsoft knows that Sony is quickly becoming a bigger threat, so there could be some surprise announcements to excite fans and maybe even to appeal to the more casual crowd as well?

True. The 360 already have proven great games while the PS3 have potential great games but it really has to prove it. So until then you're fine with the Wii60 combo. And who knows maybe by the time all the big hiiters are out the PS3 price might be even lower. Play B3yond.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't get my PS2 until March of 2005 (it was a brand new slimline model). My favorite consoles are from Nintendo, though I'm not some fanboy. :P

umm.... TC, if you cant list more than 2 confirmed game thats pretty sad dude i think you need to rethink your reasoning skills

you listed 4 comfirmed ps3 excusives and 2 comfirmed 360 games. and one of those is an ancient plateformer and the other is a real time stratigy game witch dont work on consules. ether do more reasearch or become more inteligent. your arguements dont stand up.

MGS4 says of being an exclusive are numbered. As for Killzone 2, I doubt that will do well.

Software speaking, Sony's library for 2008 is much more impressive.

Hardware speaking, MS's hardware has a highly depressing failure rate. 16%??

I think the 360 is definitely a very nice console but what we are about to witness is the rise of the PS3 in 2008.

If most of the consoles selling points are a backlog of games in 07, dont you think most people would have opted to already get the system. Not to mention the fact that the PS3 has a nice amount of solid 07 games as well.

i had a 360 got it last X-mas then this late 07 every one was saying that 360 has the best line up ever and i was like what the heck no it doesnt angry i sold my 360 i regret ever buying it

yeah PCs are prbl the best but im cheap lazy and above all my desktop is fried and computers just arnt reliable i dont like the idea that the games wont always work the way they are suposed to on you pc or that a virus could crush you crazy expensive gameing system

It just isn't going to get better or even equal '07 again for MS. Btw, if you think '07 was just some coincidence by developers, trust me that was a very well orchestrated year on MS' part. They absolutely wanted to kill the PS3 last year. It just didn't happen though.

The shift is now on 3rd party developers. All MS has managed to do this generation compared to last is to actually get more 3rd party dev. support, but very few will do exclusive games on it. This year you will see all 360 exclusives being published by microsoft game studios, but the titles which are said to be coming out this year just don't have the weight Sony's does. Plus Sony started some franchises last year that people are thoroughly enjoying.

However TC, if you look at MS' current '08 lineup and get a rod at the thought then by all means go out and buy your 360. Maybe the games being offered on the Sony platform just aren't your type. And there is nothing wrong with that. But coming in here and trying to justify how 'good' that MS' '08 lineup like its beating Sony's overall is just dumb.Hope ur 360 don't RRoD on ya.

The PS3 is going to get some GREAT games this year.

It's all about the games. I'm not a fanboy. In fact, in early 2005, I traded in my Xbox and then got a slimline PS2.

Not everyone has the RROD problem. Also, by the time I buy the Xbox 360, it will probably have been manufactured this year. The newer the model, the less chance of RROD, right?MayorJohnny
