Why twice the number of people played Dead Space on Xbox 360 as units sold?

Recently, EA said twice the number of people on the xbox 360 played Dead Space as units sold. The answer to how that is possible is simple. Most Xbox users acquire their games for free using "digital distribution".

Why buy a game when you can borrow it from a friend?

No. They realized the game was short, knew they could beat it in a week and it didn't have replay value and just decided to rent it instead of wasting $60.

Renting and borrowing games could easily inflate that number, as well as people who play their games on two different Xboxes.

Im sure some of those are pirated copies, but Im willing to bet the major reason for this is renting/borrowing.

second hand/rented/borrowed games are going to make up the vast majority of those inflated numbers.

Not hard to believe that there's alot of 360 piracy. I know quite alot of people who get their 360 games by those means.... but did it ever occor to you that people borrow from other and their older games on replacement RRoD consoles?

Yeah, that number must be huge. I believe we have used game market and Gamestop to blame.

I like how the TC fails to meantion they was talking about dead space across all platforms not just the 360. Again these topics should be locked and removed for spreading lies.

Not to meantion it had nothing to do with piracy.

Microsoft should really get on this.

oh geeeezzzz do you even know what EA actually said? it has nothing to do with illegaly downloading games. EA said that people buying used games on ps3/360 is bad like piracy. he never said half of dead space players have illegaly obained those copies but half of dead space players have bought USED copies.

Piracy is still a huge hit on sales in total.

Piracy certainly makes a dent in total sales, but I wouldn't use the adjective "huge" for it.

What? Wasn't it due to the used games market?

Its not on 'the 360' its on the PS3 and 360 - actually.

This is just a testament to the impact of pre owned games sales really, and rentals - lesser so piracy.

At least its being highlighted (again) by developers.

Oh we have a winner! Yes mythrol is right, I myself rented it [ for five days ] and beat it two times before talking it back. I think I even got all but three achievements.

Borrowing, renting, and buying the game used is the cause for majority of it, I would guess a small fraction due to pirating. :? EA even said that used games were the causes...that's what they were talking about when that was mentioned. -.-

No. Dont try to make it look like all (or, as you said... most) Xbox users pirate their games, and garbage such as that. Your answer would most likely be Gamefly, Blockbuster, etc. etc.

Made up by Renting, Pirating, Borrowing and Second Hand..... 360 Users will pirate depending on country and location (it can be amazingly easy if you are in certain countries) but the TC opening thread lacks any thought other then (apparently) PIRATING but luckily stupidity makes this place keep turning...
