Looking at this year's E3 one thing is REALLY CLEAR.

There won't be a New Generation for a while.

With Nintendo Yeah we're getting a New Console, a long over due Upgrade for the Wii that everyone wanted, The WiiU.

What's important about it? The Tablet Game Pad. It gives the Console a Second Screen to work with, like the DS. Second of All it gives freedom to those that want to play a Game, but have someone watch TV at the same time. I would killed for something like that back in the SNES days.

So we learned that Last Year. This Year? Microsoft SmartGlass! It doesn't pretty much what the WiiU Gamepad is kinda supposed to do, The Xbox does something, SmartGlass Does Something Different. Hooray, Not Only does Xbox have their own Motion Controls, but they have their own Tablet thing for their Console too.

Sony? They've been doing this, with the PSP and Remote Play, they're just upgrading to a Touch Screen Controller now with Vita, Also they announced that Playstation All-Stars will be Cross Platform with PS3 and PSVita and can be played Using BOTH Dualshock 3 AND Vita. Sound Familier? Oh right, that's what Nintendo said they were going to do with Smash Bros. 4 on the WiiU.

Can it get anymore Clearer folks?

All three Systems have Motion Controls Now and they will now have their Own Tablet Controller/Tablet, Not to Mention All 3 will be HD! Yay! More Multiplats!

That's my Opinion on why we won't see a New Generation.

I agree this E3 really showed us we don't need anything for another year or so.

THe systems have gone through so much evolution. The big 3 don't need new hardware yet.

no senior vp said ps4 games are in development... and guerrilla games / evolution & sucker punch have had over a year into their next project. So its safe to assume there will be some showing next year the latest.. unless u think games are going to take 4 years to develop now instead of the average 2.

We honestly don't need new hardware, I've been saying this forever now. Games like Beyond/The Last of Us/Halo 4 prove this ... We can still get varied and unique gaming experiences from what developers are working with right now.

I can see both Sony and Microsoft avoding talking about the next generation because they don't have enough to tell yet. It's obvious they are both beating around the bush, trying to drag the life of their current gen console out a bit longer.

They are working on their next gen platforms, they just have nothing to show for them right now.

that is correct. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2012-sony/731533 senior vp even says there are games in development (presumably by evolution/guerrilla/sucker punch at the very least)

I think this E3 is proof that we DO need new hardware. Most multiplat games were running on a PC because the console version didn't look as good. You had games like The Last of Us that really looked great but everything else was just average looking and not really pushing any further. All tese big games coming out will look better on PC and I can see some people saying "Fvck this i'm building a PC". Watch Dogs is an example of this and Star Wars 1313

They don't want to release new consoles. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are selling well enough that they don't want to waste that with a new console announcement. On the other hand, these other developers are showing of tech demos after tech demos of what is suppose to happen next-generation in order to hype up the gamer crowd. They are hoping that they hype up enough that it shows Microsoft and Sony that their is a demand for new consoles. We shall see who wins.

Now I'm not sure what hardware SE is running this on, I am assuming they are building it for next gen platforms, but if they can somehow squeeze this out of current gen than I agree they have the graphics down. (I highly suggest you watch the link below to see what I am talking about.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVX0OUO9ptU

I know graphics do not make a game but for a large portion of players it's very important. That being said, we're approaching the point where graphical improvements are going to start to level off and immersion into the gameworld will take precidence. It will be interesting to see if these companies shift their business models to accomodate or inhibit the natural evolution of console platforms.

I disagree completely. Absolutely.

Developers are evidently struggling with the current available hardware and have desperately demanded, (on more than one occasion), new modern hardware to work with.

Epic and Ubisoft were very outspoken on this issue not long ago.

We need consoles. And despite the recent spike of high quality games, developers are doing the impossible to optimate the heck out of their games just to make ends meet. They can only do so much.

Developers are demanding it, consumers are demanding it. So the hell not?

I couldn't disagree more. I can almost guarantee you that we will see next gen consoles next year. Why? Because we have companies like Epic and Square Enix showing off new engines that aren't possible to run on anything from this gen. The other reason? There were some pretty incredible looking games at E3, such as Watch Dogs and Starwars 1313. However, both those games were running on high-end PCs. Developers know that these consoles are running out of juice. Without any platform aside from PC confirmed for 1313, I'm willing to bet that it's a launch title for next gen consoles next fall. Also there is no way that the 360/PS3 versions of Watch Dogs will look as good and run as smoothly as what we saw in that trailer.

they are limited. Beyond is all QTE, LOU will be linear and tight and Halo 4 will not be as open as the other ones.

Companies have adopted this new policy of not showing off anything new until it is almost ready to launch. I am pretty sure we will here more about PS4 and Xbox 720 late in this year or early next year because they are coming next year.

Too many rumors about PS4 and Xbox 720 for them not to be coming next year plus they won't let Nintendo get so far ahead even though they are really not competing with Nintendo.
