and uhm almost every thread around here, but yea now thatyou mention te last one was the catherine "deal"doubalfaIt's the fans I think. If you're not paying 60$ for block puzzles you're not an artistic soul. Oh well.
It's just a very easy, and horrible, argument to use. Some people do actually frown on that which is not a realistic shooter, but it's not the majority. There are far better arguments out there.
Probably because it's fun to hate on what everybody loves?:P
Honestly that is somewhat my reality.:? Pretty much all my gaming friends play aside from CoD is WOW.:?
So is there any point that is to made in here? Are you simply saying that the critique of run and gun shows one up to be a cliche complainer and a fashion follower and that CoD is a great game and that the gaming industry is doing right by us? Aren't you expecting the reader to have a fashion savvy that fleshes out your complaint with subtextual cool while making your own complaint about another subset of cool? Thread fail ... support your arguments please so I have something to agree or disagree with ... i think games are becoming way too commercial, following the cash ... and the successes of games like CoD and Halo mean a deluge of similar games easily cranked out and sheepishly consumed by the twitchy at the cost of more artistic and immersive game environments. You have to admit there's an awful lot of 2D scrollers and FPSs out there, hardly fulfilling the heady promise that gaming offered as it gained popularity over the 2000s. Like all consumed media you can't just eat it all up with a giant spoon ... there are complaints to made about "Friends" and Britney Spears, as cliche as it may seem to those who are non verbally assessing what's hip. I want games to cater to a varied audience and I will accept the run and gun, the 2D artschool pap, the kinetic family friendly appeasments that are trying to turn punk into new wave yet again, if my tastes, as one of the old dog consumers who made this game thing happen, are given consideration as well. Why can't I find anything of interest this summer? Why am I having CoD shoved down my throat ... just saying ...
because innovation is better than watered down crap and money grabbing.
the way gaming is going at the moment, i don't like.
so any game that actually tries something new, i welcome.
and i use cod as a benchmark for the watered down money grabbing that goes on these days. :)

It isn't so much the game, as much as an idea. I think most of the time, it is used wrong, but not always. I've seen people who make lists of games they are anticipating, and you have 8 out of 10 being shooters, than they post in threads of niche games and critisize them. I have nothing against Call of Duty, but it is the easiest one to bring up. There are quite a few gamers who don't like to move out of their comfort zones. There are a lot of people who prefer things like consolization and dumbing down since they hate to think. It may not be right to say that someone who says something bad about a game is just some casual Call of Duty player who doesn't know real games, but there are quite a few gamers who prefer simple games where they never have to stop and think about anything.
No, thats Call of Duty. My response to someone asking me why I don't like Gears of War is "Its boring, drawn out trash. Horde mode is fun for a week but everything about both games is terrible."
And my response to Mirror's Edge: "That game was unbelievably awful. It had so much potential, the demo level was so fun, but the design of the levels and the fighting was crap."
And my response to why CoD sucks? "Yes its the same every year, but it was never that fun to begin with for me. The MP is simple, strong, yet I find it boring. Its too repetitive. The Solo modes have been long setpieces since CoD4.
the people on these boards represent only about 2% of the gaming population IF that. So dont read to much into the mess around here.
