why would anyone in their right mind buy a ps3 now?

to all the ps3 enthusiasts, what possible reason could you have for buying a ps3 now :? You can't resell it on ebay to make a profit, there are no worthwile games on the system as of right now, its 600$, gimped backwards compatiblity and a flop of movie format that wont replace dvd for the next 10 years atleast... so ps3 owners why would you buy a ps3 now? for the potential? Im just curious is all :D

Well, number one, there are quite a few good games on it now. Number two, a lot of us have HDTV's. Number three, it's only going to take 2-3 yrs for blu ray to replace dvd's. At the rate that prices for HDTV's are falling, anyone that owns any t.v. today will be able to afford one in 2 yrs... at that point, you all won't like dvd's anymore either. Blu rays are vastly superior in picture and sound. /thread.Sgt_Hale

Actually, it seems very likely.... A 32" HDTV can already be found for as cheap as $700 and 24" for $500. In two years either of these will be $100- $300. Once again, if you've been paying attention to how fast the prices have fallen for the last two years you already know this. Retailers like Walmart and Best Buy are already phasing out regular televisions.

You are correct that most people that do not own an HDTV know what a blue ray OR an hd-dvd is.... but for those of us that do own an HDTV, most of us know what it is. The bandwidth to carry more HD content is continuing to increase... and at an extremely fast pace for those that watch on satellite vs. cable. That combined with the super affordability of the sets will have one in the majority of households worldwide within the next 2-3 yrs.

Anyways, from what I've read, some have bought it so they can watch hd movies (i.e. there not really gamers). others have bought it for mediocre ports from last year, and others bought it for the 'potential'

Spoken like a true fanboy. Not only does the PS3 already have some great exclusives, it has the best ones coming out this year. And yes, it also includes a player that allows HDTV owners to watch movies in HD.... So we have the money to enjoy more benefits and we're not supposed to b/c you don't like the system?:? Riiiight.

Based on your avatar, you're a ninty fan... I'd hate to turn this into a wii bashing thread, but you all really don't have any games that compare to Motorstorm, VF5, or Resistance. And for those that only have one system, what do they care if some of the other games are on other systems??? You only short yourself of good gaming when you look at things through fanboy goggles. Of course it's a good system for gamers if they can afford the price tag.

i suppose buying ps3 r:fom, motorstorm, nhl2k7, and vf5 makes me crazy. even going by GS's gimped review scores, ps3 has several titles classified as "great." last time i checked, great was better than decent.LoG-Sacrament
