It might be a matter of support...

I mean how many games actually used the PSeye?

Sony didn't try with the PS Eye. They released it and that was it. Not much advertising, not many good games, nothing. Hopefully, MS does something different with Natal.

the pseye is terrible tech, natal is not. I bought the eye and I got some fun out of it, but it's not worth the money. No precision, and it makes me wonder how good PSMove could be. Mind you, it's usefulness is based on light so that glow ball would definitely help, but even still. Natal without a glowball is troublesome as well.

with as much money and as much hype microsoft is already giving to natal i dont see them giving up on it so easily. it would probably be like sony was with the PS3. slow out the gate but with enough support and patience itll pick up and be something big

Natal has at least two advantages over the EyeToy/PSEye: It can sense depth, and works in a dimly lit room.

Because the Natal sounds to be awesome tech while the eye sucked every day of its release.

not to menion the ps eye had what Eye of judgement and that honestly was the last game i heard that supported it....fully. so it all baisicly biols down to support and hype. the bottom line is, as long as Microsoft can keep Natal "relative" and "necessary" it can and will turn out to be something big..

No that was Hewett Packard, I think. It had nothing to do with MS and Natal though.

PSEYE tech wasn't that great and it had almost no real software support and overall Sony didn't do anything to stop its demise

Natal tech is better, and it might have real support behind it this time with lots of advertising

so it'll probably be better than PSEYE was, whether it's as successful as the other motion controllers on the market is anyone's guess

Natal is completely different than the PSEye. Can the PSEye detect your bodyheat and use a wireframe to detect specific areas of your body, allowing it detect your finger movements, even when they are behind your back? People need to learn more about Natal before calling it a PSEye 2.0. Might as well say that the Xbox 360 controller is just an updated NES controller. They are both controllers, They both have buttons, and a D-Pad, but is the 360 really just an upgraded NES controller? I think you get what I mean regarding Natal and PSEye.

They fixed that issue via firmware. Sugar Ray (I think that is his name) was playing Natal, check youtube for a video of him playing it. He had not problems with Natal, despite the color of his skin.

Natal is not a camera. It is a sensor array with a depth sensor, color sensor, and microphone. It also has a much better sdk and associated APIs than the eyetoy ever did. I don't really see the comparison between the two.

I agree completely. But unfortunately, people still like giving it the nickname "PSEye 2.0". I personally can't wait for Natal.

Natal doesn't see heat. That would be long-wavelength infrared. What it sees is near-infrared, which a spectrum just slightly outside of human vision but which digital sensors pick up quite well (in fact your standard digital camera is usually equipped with a filter to block this out so it won't produce "false colors"). An emittor on Natal bathes the gamer in this.

PS It's also the type of infrared light your television remote emits.

Cameras don't sense depth. (unless you count the phase detection autofocus system in a (d)SLR)

Processor power - Natal's host-based components can be spun off to a separate thread, where they won't have quite as much of an impact on the game code (assuming that enough is devoted that the game loop doesn't end up waiting on Natal). This applies to PS Move and the Cell's SPEs as well, perhaps even slightly more so.

they could sense depth with points of reference. Does the wii do depth with that, or is it accelerometers or whatever?

Yeah, but trying to reference a human body is difficult. The PSEye can use this method to determine the distance of the Move controller because the sphere it's tracking is simple and and has a known size. We are neither simple nor uniform.

The Wiimote's pointer system can sense depth by measuring the distance between the two IR emitters on the sensor bar. But other than that the system has no real way to determine where it actually is relative to the screen.

True. Thats why the Wii asks you whether the sensor is on top of the TV or below it, since it needs a general understanding of where the TV screen is.

Map controllers that made you use your feet to control games and weight didn't work outside DDR so why sell Wii Fit?

the eye toy didn't have the awesome marketing of Halo, Wii Fit, if MS can give it that along with the potential gameplay possibilities (like driving burnout with an invisible wheel and two ffeet for gas/brake) then it could be very popular

Thats like saying people weren't buying many 3D movies in the 90s why make Avatar the movie it was now?
