I leave out the nintendo wii in this debate because I feel its dumb to compare apples to oranges.

Even if it is so that the PS3 isthe most "powerful / reliable"hardware it is still nothing without good software to back it up.

The Xbox360 may have a hardware issue with a "33% failure rate" ( I believe i keep hearing ) but is backed by top notch software ( a killer game line up, xbox live, xbox live arcade ect... )

Now tell me do gamers want a nice piece of hardware collecting dust in their house or do they want to take the chance with a small failure rate in order to have the best hardcore ( and softcore with xbox live arcade ect... )gaming experience in the console world.

It's true but having a system that breaks down isn't really a good thing...Ilike better the Xbox 360 more than the Wii or PS3, but I prefer having a reliable hardware collecting dust than sending my X360 back for repairs 3 or 4 times a year due to the same failure rate...Don't you think I'm right?? (Be truthful)

Thats great and all, but it still begs the fact that you cant play all those great games if youre constantly sending the system back to get repaired.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of nice games coming out for the ps3 and it's pretty fanboyish for u to say that "it is still nothing without good software to back it up."

As a casual, I don't really like the idea of paying to play online as all the while I get to play for free online with more customizations on my pc. And I don't think the XBL thingy is that great.

Both are good consoles with different game lineups. I don't think it's fair to judge now as 360 obviously has a clear advantage in terms of software.

Now don't get me wrong, I own a 360 as well, and these are some great features.

Sony has Home coming along. They have a built in web browser, an application similar to the xbox live marketplace where they have also put out games and movies for purchase, online play, etc etc. To my knowledge Sony's online gaming community may not be as large as xbox live, but it is coming along. Not to mention, Sony offers the PSN for free. Xbox Live runs roughly 8 bucks a month, 50 a year, etc etc depending on what gold membership package you purchase. Sony doesn't charge for online play as in opposition Microsoft does. (You need a gold membership to play multiplayer online)

As for the argument in hardware, Ps3 comes with Blu-Ray and you have to purchase the HD dvd player for the 360 for an addtional 200 dollars. The hdd drive comes standard in 60 and now 80 gigs. Even though the 360 elite comes in 120. The hard drives are also interchangeable. You can purchase a hard drive at your local Best Buy, Circuit City, etc etc and install it with no problem. You can also connect external devices and save PS3 content onto those as well, something you cannot do with the 360. Wi Fi is built in. For the 360 you have to purchase the adapter. PSP connectivity, blue tooth technology, I would say the price is worth it.

The price of the elite is almost 500 dollars alone. The same price for the PS3 60gig model. In terms of hardware and features, the PS3 is looking pretty damn good, especially in terms of price comparisons.

I agree with the first line and the fact that the PS3 is reliable. The rest seems fishy, you claim that reliability means little to people who buy hardware. This maybe true for some but not for all, reliability is important to some, I never have to be scared of playing my PS3 whileX360 has a design issue which canmake the system fail at any time. You'll now mention the warranty but that only covers the 3 rrod and I'm not sure how big a problem the actual disk drive is. But you seem to make it sound like reliability means little when it doesn't.

Next you claim that the PS3 has no games that is the same BS spouted by every 360 fanboy in many forums in caseyour new the summer season is always dry for videogames, whatmega summer smashes have there been for 360 this summer not much and there's been quite a bit of complaining on Live. Perhaps you missed E3 but Sony announced a ton of titles for this holiday, check E3 tab above. Also they announced alot of exciting stuff for 2008 and still have stuff to show in Liepzig and TGS.Then you say that's not enough Sony will just reshow E3 at those, then look up Playstation Premiere 07= to X0 from MS they showed alot of stuff there as well.

What has 360 to look foward to after the holidays that is so grand. Halo 3 is the climax of 360, then its pretty dry after, also X07 got cancelled. So can you please tell me what is there to look foward toafter Halo 3for Xbox 360?

I've had mine for about a year now as well. Only problems I have had with it would be freezing up while online (more specifically while playing Gears of War) and it's only happened a few times. Never seen the rings of death. I have however tested a rumor that there is something that hangs in the system near the disc drive that scratches your discs if the console is placed right side up in the standing position. I used two different burnedCD-r's and both came ut scracthed in a circular manner. Other than that,no otherissues with mine.

As of playing the console, it has been close to everyday or every few days. On average 3 or so times a week. For now it's collecting dust for the past week and a hald due to these factors. I've gone out fo town for a few days to do more exhilirating outdoor activities. And two, it's been awhile since I've shelled out the dough for a new game.

oh and if it means anything I used to be a huge sony fan. I used to always come on system wars and bash the xbox360 but i relize now we buy gaming consoles to play games so with the choice to only get one consolethe 360 looks like the most logical choice for me. But hey maybe i'll end up getting a PS3 also someday. For now not enough games for the PS3 are giving me the "WOW!!!" effect.

The point of that argument is, the hardware. Such as you originally stated. The PS3 has a blu ray player. The 360 has no next generation dvd player unless you purchase an external option.

The PS3 has a killer line-up on the way while 360 has a killer-app coming up. Keep tothe facts. When you mean"collecting dust" then I assume it's the 360 you mean and "small failure rate"to be PS3 because that's how the facts are.

ultimately better? so in 5 years it will still ultimately be better once the ps3 software library catches up?

microsoft had a CHANCE to take this generation. Unfortunately for them they let one of the biggest blunders in gaming occur with a massive hardware malfunction and extending the warranty which has really hurt them. I really doubt they will be able to oust sony now that everyone knows they are selling poorly architectured hardware.

Sony, as they always said, built the ps3 for the future. They did not try and force it out the door like microsoft and their console. Neither did they gimp out on technologies that would ultimately be necessary for this generation. Their lack of including a harddrive in their "core" system is already compromising games such as GTAIV.

Sony however built in blu ray, allowing next gen storage and playability. Wifi, which I realized I can move my PS3 to any room in the house without making it a weekend long ordeal to hardwire a jack into, blutooth with rechargable controllers out of the box, no batteries or play and charge kits! and free online services. They also standardized the HDD on EVERY PS3 sold. Whether you have a 20, 60, 80 or custom 250 GB PS3 the developers know that you at least have some form of storage on your system.

So ultimately the PS3 is a better overall machine. I know that in 10-15 years I can take my PS3 and fire it up and play games that work just as they do now. You do not get that anywhere else (in particular M$). I also know that I have the future of high definition media in my living room. I can stream music, video, and pictures wirelessly from my PC to my PS3, rip audio and create playlists all in the comfort of my chair. I can hop on the internet and wirelessly browse not only through connectivity of the internet itself (wifi) but also through wireless blutooth keyboards and mice. I know that my PS3 will not spazz out and die on my multiple times through multiple repairs nor will it be obsolete in another year or two. All of this and I forgot to mention gems such as Haze, UT3 and its exclusive pc mod community features, KZ2, God of War 3, Ratchet, Resistance, Grand Turismo... okay i will stop, right after i say MGS4.

ULTIMATELY the PS3 was built for the future, and is ULTIMATELY a better machine/console/purchase than the xbox. While the xbox has a nice software library now, most of its hits are or will be multiplatform, and its hardware and manufacturing problems will severely hurt them in the long run.

And as for the point that people buy gaming consoles to play games, and not watch movies, that's understandable. But for the sake of your argument in hardware, once again, some people want the total package. To buy a regular blu ray player or an HD dvd player will cost way more than any of the consoles. The prospect of having such technology at your fingertips in a gaming console as well at a cheaper price is a persuading detail. Thus for, providing much more than just a gaming experience, but a total entertainment system. The thing that most consoles aim for nowadays.

Why do you think Toyota, then, surpassed GM as the #1 auto manufacturer in North America? A lot of reasons, but the fact that their vehicles don't start to break down in 2 - 5 years is a big part of it. A Japanese car at 8 years old BEGINS to experience the problems a 3 year old American car experiences.

So you would rather waste money, rather than get at least SOME USE out of it. That is of course assuming it is in the repair shop all the time. It is funny how cows act like the 360 breaks down if you look at it wrong or something. LOL.

Since you don't understand the concept of an analogy, I'll spell it out for you. A video game console, much like a car, is of no use to the owner if it's in the shop. Easy enough to understand, no?

PS3 got good software, Blu-ray movies. Movies and Video Games go hand and hand. Music is mixed in there as well.

I agree. The 360 has the best overall software backing of this generation. I would have one by now if I wasn't doing my Prelims in 2 months ...

I think they are both awesome and I'm hoping to have both! One thing I like about having to buy the extra hardware for the 360 is that if I don't need it I don't have to pay for it. I mean, what if I already have a blu-ray player and the other things a PS3 has. That means that I pay about $400-$500 for just the system! Oh wait, that's what I paid for the X360 anyway... he he... Anyway, I think that hopefully in the long run, both will do okay. And also, if Microsoft didn't spend as much cash as Sony to make the X360 that should mean they can shell out a next-NEXT-gen console faster. But right now, I'm satisfied with my 360 (I'm more a PC person myself though!).

could anyone tell me the uber ultra games coming out on 360 in 08?Ragashahs

360 better overall? No way! Overall as in future? What is 360's future? Maybe the reason people haven't heard of 08's titles because M$ makeing another system. M$ isn't intrested about a 10 year console, but 4 years and then an update. Is your 360 have best software when the 360 2 is out?

Oh, and by the way Ragashahs, most of the games listed above are coming out on the 360 as well. Some are PS3 exclusive though, but 360 has it's own set of exclusives including Halo 3 and Halo Wars. Also, is it actually true that GoW 2 is going from X360 to PS3!? I heard it on Attack of the Show while channel surfing a couple nights ago.

The 360 has at least another3 years to go till M$ releases a new console.

Thats great and all, but it still begs the fact that you cant play all those great games if youre constantly sending the system back to get repaired.

jigglebilly1983

the only reason they break down is because people dont let the back of there 360 breath. i was guilty of it when i moved into my new house. after i realized my mistake, when i got my repaired 360 back in 14 days for free, i have'nt had a problem since. lets be honest here.. theres at least a million reasons why 360 is better. ill give you one. "online" community. nuff said.

It's impossible for GoW2 to go to PS3, MS owns the publishing rights for the first two GoW titles. Unless MS decides to cut Sony a break and say, "Hey, why not?"

my point is that while 360 has a great lineup coming for 07 what's even coming out in 08? PS3 is getting Killzone 2, MGS4, LBP and hopefully FF13 and verses. PS3 is starting to form it's 08 lineup but 360 isn't. even if they have a great 07 whats happens in 08 when a real price drop comes and PS3 has a solid 08 and 360 has what?

Virus642

I get both with my pc, reliable hardware and great games
