Kane and Lynch: Dead Men - Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Games for Windows
The Plot:
Two men on death row.
Kane and Lynch.
After his 2 year old son finds his gun and accidentally shoots himself with it, Kane's self blame drives him to skip the country and become a freelance mercenary. Six years later, his skills of a mercenary get him noticed by an elite gang known only as "The Seven", who offer him a place in their ranks, but have very strict rules. If the rules are ever broken, Kane is a dead man (See where this is going?). 13 years on and after many successful years they attempt a retirement job in the US. It goes horribly wrong, and as far as Kane knows, all his team die and he escapes with massive riches in the form of diamonds. He attempts to flee to Germany but is caught by the authorities and sentenced to death.
Meanwhile, Lynch, a schizofrenic, suffers from what he calls a "Blackout", and wakes up to find his wife brutally murdered. Whether he did it in his schizofrenic episode or whether he has been set up is unclear, but after a short time on the run, he too is sentenced to death.
Fate brings these two men together as they are transported to death row. But they never make it to death row. Their transport van violently crashes and it soon becomes apparent that four members of "The Seven" survived the retirement job, and they want revenge on Kane. Breaking his nose to show they mean business, they strike a deal with Kane. If he can recouperate and return the money they should have got, they'll only kill him and spare his wife and remaining daughter, Jenny. Lynch is offered a place in "The Seven" and a life, under one condition. He must oversee Kane's attempts to recouperate the cash on behalf of the seven. And with that, the stage is set for Kane and Lynch to launch all manner of heists.
The Gameplay:
You play as Kane, and an offline co-op partner can play as Lynch if you so desire. Played in a third person shooter perspective, you have to pull off some epic heists in order to save your family. Shoot, rappel, take hostages, torture. Whatever. Just do what it takes.
The Multiplayer: Fragile Alliance:
One of the most interesting aspects of the game is it's online multiplayer, the Fragile alliance mode. Described as "The Most un-co-op co-op ever", in Fragile alliance, you and up to 7 friends can band together to take on some of the biggest heists in the game.
You get dropped off at a bank or place full of stuff worth stealing, and have a designated amount of time to grab some loot and get to the getaway vehicle.
If you all grab some money and get to the getaway vehicle normally, you all share the cash. But, that would be boring. You want ALL the cash, right? Well, if you so choose you can betray your comrades and take their share aswell as ensure you keep the entirity of your own. This marks you as a traitor, however, and any of the criminals who go on to kill YOU get greatly rewarded, so if this is your choice, prepare to get a bullet in the back if you're not careful.
When you die, you become one of the police/swat forces so... If one of your teammates sees fit to take your share of the cash, you've got a great opportunity for revenge.
Grab a facemask and toss Lynch his pills. You've got a few very important jobs to do.
