I think the Wii is a great console for people that don't like videogames. I've had no motivation to purchase more than 2 games for my Wii: Metroid Prime Corruption & Big Brain Academy. I've rented all the top rated Wii games including Galaxy, Kart, Zelda, & Boom Blox... and wasn't even remotely compelled to purchase them.

In contrast, I have about 30 titles for my 360. Until last week, I'd never traded a 360 game in. That changed this past weekend when I traded the horrible Battlefield Bad Crapany and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 in for Civ Revolution (it was well worth it, too).

I actually felt some remorse for trading the games in because I've never done that before (and I don't buy used, either) but both of those games were garbage and I couldn't stand to have them taint my otherwise superb collection of games.

I keep the Wii, not because its a fun system, but because when non-gamer friends come over, we can play wii sports when nothings on TV.

You FAILED when you called R6V2 trash.

You also failed even more when you basically said Mario and Zelda sucked.

I gave my opinion. R6V2 brought nothing new. In fact, the environments were a step backwards from the original Vegas, which was nothing to brag about. GRAW, put out by the same publisher and having very similar gameplay mechanics, absolutely blows vegas away in terms of control, animation, environments, storyline, multiplayer, etc. and it came out before Vegas.

Conversly, I have the opposite feeling. I really enjoy all the Wii games you mentioned as having zero interest in, while I couldn't really care less if I ever play any of the 360 exclusives. To each his/her own I guess...

The last great Rainbow 6 game was Raven Shield (the PC version, not the console one). They've all been trash since then.

Sorry, but I graduated from the oversimplistic, joke of a storyline type games put out by nintendo, oh about the time of the N64.

Its just like when I was 10, I loved watching B-rate horror flicks & whatnot. Since then I've moved on to more sophisticated movies with real production values, top-notch acting, well crafted stories, etc. Chasing a princess got old 5 marios ago.

Conversly I feel the opposite of the tc. Imo if one considers him or herself a true fan of games, they will want all the systems and appreciate them for what they are, not for what they are not.

All this bandwagon jumping to hate the Wii is ridiculous and near-sighted. People have turned the Wii into their whipping boy on SW unjustly, although I do realise that most of the posters doing so are mostly young and immature gamers.

you mean like space marines, and, errr, space marines?

sure, currently, there's not a whole lot in the way of deep storylines on the Wii, but i think sadness, fatal frame 4, and cursed mountain look promising.

I play games to have fun. It doesn't have to have huge production values and be to be fun and engaging. If I wanted a great story I'd pick up an RPG or read a book.

That's an interesting story. I HATED the N64. The PSX was by far my console of choice back then. I didn't like the GC at all, either, save for Metroid Prime and Smash Bros. (the Rogue Squadron games were pretty good, too). I had (and still have) a PS2 and Xbox, and up until about 2004 I thought exactly the same way you did. Know what happened? I stopped having fun playing console games. Aside from the rare game (MLB 07 The Show, NHL 06), I'd find that nothing could really hold my interest for more than 15 minutes, REGARDLESS of production values or whoever B-List actor was featured as voice talent.

I actually have fun playing Mario Galaxy and Zelda, and it doesn't really matter to me if the storyline is overly basic or not (if I want something with a good storyline, I'll watch a movie. And don't come at me with MGS4, the entire Metal Gear storyline is terrible)

Oh, like Too Human?

Ya, sorry, I do agree to a certain extent with what you say, but I just couldn't resist that.

And to the guy who says there's something wrong with a person for not liking Galaxy, please note that some people just don't have the same taste in platformers as you. Your opinion is not the be all and end all.

Oh, you mean intricate and sophisticated plots like that of Too Human? A game which your rated an 8.0. You seem very confused to why you even have fun playing certain games. I think you should stick to movies.

Because by focusing only on games that "everyone can enjoy," hardcore gamers lose out because they are looking for a fulfillment level beyond that of what nintendo provides.

I'm guessing not everyone can enjoy MP3 and Disaster(when it comes out). True, a lot of the games are ok for everyone, but personally that doesn't bother me.

I spot a contradiction.

Sure, everyone can play Smash Bros., it's not an especially tough game to figure out. It has a very casual, party appeal. But could you explain how the 'hardcore' lose out? Is it that they feel the need to be elitist enough that they can't play casual games? :?

In essence, if everyone can play -- that can point to the obvious fact that details such as depth, or challenge can be "dumb-downed". And that doesn't go well with the hardcore gamers.

The hardcore looses out because they are looking for something more than the simple fun the game provides. It doesn't satisfy them.

For example, Xenosaga might not be as much fun as Mario, but it provides a story which gives me a higher level of fulfillment. Mario can't satisfy that, so I turn to Xenosaga instead. Or maybe I don't like Xenosaga, because I find strategizing the most fulfilling, so I turn to Final Fantasy Tactics.

Reminds me very much of Bioshock :|

WAIW
Hence possibly why System Shock 2 received more praise from the hardcore following Bioshock.

[QUOTE="TAKE_IT_BACK"]Its not a console specifically for non gamers; Its just the console that is most appealing to non gamers.hakanakumono

But it does primarily focus on non gamers, which alienates the gamers.

How is it its primary focus?

Because by focusing only on games that "everyone can enjoy," hardcore gamers lose out because they are looking for a fulfillment level beyond that of what nintendo provides.

I spot a contradiction.

Sure, everyone can play Smash Bros., it's not an especially tough game to figure out. It has a very casual, party appeal. But could you explain how the 'hardcore' lose out? Is it that they feel the need to be elitist enough that they can't play casual games? :?

The hardcore looses out because they are looking for something more than the simple fun the game provides. It doesn't satisfy them.

For example, Xenosaga might not be as much fun as Mario, but it provides a story which gives me a higher level of fulfillment. Mario can't satisfy that, so I turn to Xenosaga instead. Or maybe I don't like Xenosaga, because I find strategizing the most fulfilling, so I turn to Final Fantasy Tactics.

I don't see why a hardcore game has to have 'depth' or give more fulfillment to be considered just that. Shmups are generally accepted as hardcore, and yet are about as simple as games get.

Once again, it just boils down to what you like. You want depth and story, but that doesn't mean hardcore, and it certainly doesn't mean a better game when we look at the high scores these first party games get. It's all subjective, just like the meaning of hardcore. I'll agree, Ninty casually-based games lack serious depth comparatively, but saying the hardcore lose doesn't make any sense -- unless what you're after is not high scoring games, but complex epics. In that case, try finding a copy of Fire Emblem Wii.

Well, cartoons are for children -- but that won't stop an adult from watching them.

Stating a reference is insulting? Interesting.

i dont like Wii but so many threads being created pointing out Wii is a non-hardcore console, its just for casuals etc etc..

I dont understand all this hate, Wii is just another console like PS3 & 360... you may like it and its games or you may not be interested... Fact is that Wii is currently the most successful console (saleswise), and is a GAMING console... the 'casuals' as many call them are still gamers.. you dont necessarily have to spend 6 hours a day on your console to be considered a 'true' gamer... you may enjoy a few rounds a couple of times a week on any type of game/console, it still makes you a gamer..

To reply to this thread's question, Wii is a console for GAMERS, since Wii is a games console and i understand that those who bought a Wii had in mind to play games on it...
