Damn, makes me glad I sold my Wii now if that is the attitude going forwards. I mean, who wants a challenge and something that will last when you can have 'not difficult but still fun' titles that appeal for all of 5 minutes *cough* Warioware *cough*.

Good job one company got things right this gen, shame it wasn't Nintendo.

I heard he was making Galaxy "too hard."

Let's hope that's true.

I mean, he was behind Zelda II right?

He's making a general observation. There will still be difficult games being made for the audience that wants them, but the majority of gamers don't like extremely difficult games.

Wow is easy to get into but VERY difficult to master, the Sims you are correct about (except he talks about easy and fun...the sims is simply easy :P).

Well good luck to Nintendo and its new casual soccer mom fanbase, i'm out and will never give them another penny of my money (sure they don't care but you can only vote with your wallet on these things).

In all fairness, it's how I view my Wii. My 360 is for my real gaming, my Wii is for messing around at parties etc. It's definately a second console for me.

This is a much larger market than the "core" gamer market so don't be surprised if you notice Microsoft or Sony changing their focus. Infact, look at the spotlight game of Microsoft's E3 conference, Rockband. The game can really be enjoyed by anyone and is fun to play even if you aren't that great at it.

Of course, the idea being that if you were still playing WoW you were obviously better than when the game first came out. It needed to be harder to keep the same level of difficulty.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I'll buy Galaxy and maybe smash bros. But I won't get into them like I will a 360 game. I don't know why, I guess I just find 360 games more immersive.

Indeed, but I thought the casuals complaining about Straholme & *mind block* (The other UD place) in Vanilla WoW was bad enough ... then came burning crusade and the mass Shadow Lab whines xD

Sure he was, but it adds nothing to the thread so why do...oh nm. For me a prime example of why he is wrong is the popularity of Guitar Hero. That starts off relatively simple but becomes one of the hardest games i've ever known. Oh and guess what? It sells in the millions! Well who would of thought it.

This to me smacks of Nintendo failing to be able to compete in the usual gaming sector (18-25 yro males) so they aim for kids and women with simplistic party games cutesy, fluffy dog training trash. This isn't a bad thing for them but after this gen I would be ashamed to be a Nintendo fan.

Guitar hero is insanely difficult. I've only managed to complete hard difficulty without breaking my fingers.

I'm willing to bet Rockband won't be easy :D. Still, if he meant that he would give games a more gentle learning curve and leave the difficulty to in-game settings then that would be fine...but hands up if you think he actually means 'totally casualise games so that total noobs can win atthem and feel good cause thats the biggest market sector' *raises hand*.

The Sims was an open sandbox with genius in it. Not a "casual play" experience. However, EA has already failed Wii gamers with Boogie. Expect their next party game and Mysimz to have the same fate.

With his current philosophy by release he will have removed the ladders completely as more than 1 axis was found to be too challenging for most.

I liked Warioware but i didn't think it was designed to be challenging and well paced, its just a collection of fun minigames. A good example of easy Nintendo games though is Twilight Princess. I mean just what the hell did they do to that game through development the fighting gameplay is just too easy.

It won't be easy I'm sure, but it's a type of game that you can enjoy even if you aren't very good at it, something for everyone. Anyways, judging by the current and future catalogue of games on the DS I don't think Nintendo as a company has given up on difficult games. I think they just realize that there is a larger market than the one they've been trying to court all these years.

Well I liked it too...for 2 days until we finished it. The multiplayer was dull and without new and fresh things to see the 'funny' aspect of it wears out fast i.e. picking that nose was funny the first time, mildly grin worthy the second time and outright lost its charm the 3rd time.

Clearly neither of you knew about the snakes and ladders minigame. Miyamoto was stating that he felt the ladders were too confusing for many gamers and they were considering removing the ladders all together.

I dunno, following the recent trend of DS games in Japan I can see a handheld version of 'Upskirts and Ladders' ... i'm betting most gamers wouldn't have a problem then ;).

About .5% of people who play games like those games which are extremely hard and takes a lot of repetition to beat them near-impossible bosses .... I'm in the 99.5% of people who like games to be fun ... not overly easy but fun. I sure do like a challenge but I don't like games which are 'too hard' ...

I love Trauma Center. At the beginning, the levels weren't about "being hard". They were about being fun, and well... the game. They had the PERFECT difficulty. And now I'm on this "disemble the bomb" part. I'm sure they purposely tried to make this hard as possible. And now I don't really wanna go back to the game anymore...

Fun > Difficulty
