I think this is so cool. Nintendo is bringing gaming back!

Gaming never left. No one cares about seniors playing Wii Sports for an hour every 3 months. Sch1sm-
... apparently MSNBC cares... and they wouldn't run the article if they didn't think anyone would care to read it...

Wii all are.
oh my god...
OH MY GOD!
You are so dead!
Nintendo is doing the industry a favor. It's creating all these new gamers which can eventually turn into us, hardcore gamers. Parents getting interested in gaming makes them buy the console, and then their kids become gamers. Girl gamers will also increase. This is very healthy growth. Like Nintendo said the gaming industry was going down and there were less and less gamers.88Ghost89
Indeed. Most of us veteran gamers are of the NES generation. There has been a drop in the gaming population behind us, which could have led to an industry crash. Nintendo is doing the industry a favor by bringing in fresh gamers.
...now if only the PS3 wasn't a freakin $600...

That's wii-ly annoying!Nintendo is doing the industry a favor. It's creating all these new gamers which can eventually turn into us, hardcore gamers. Sure, the Wii might help you get your mom play some Wii bowling with you. But does that mean she's one day going to sit down for some Halo 3 co-op? And as far as getting more kids into gaming, I don't think parent interest was ever a requirement for buying a console for their kids. Also, I'm hesitant to label any growth in the industry as "healthy". I'm sure this will sound selfish to some, but I really don't want developers to shift any of their focus towards games geared for non-gamers. Right now I'm still pretty high on their priority list, and I won't be happy if I become increasingly marginalized due to an influx of Brain Age games.

I've never heard that before, do you have anything to back that up? (I'm not saying I dont' believe you, I'm just interested).

But you can't get the non-gamers with hardcore games. Yeah I don't want every other game to be cooking mama, but you need it to atleast attract them.
Also, i'm not just talking about moms or kids, there are also other 18-15 year olds who just dont play games for the same reasons as moms. Getting them in there with the Wii can turn them into you or I. Maybe he will play Halo 3 Co-Op one day because of it.

I don't have any evidence. It's just my thoughts. The NES created 65m new gamers. That's a huge jump from the very few left from the Atari generation. Think baby-boomers after WW2. As the NES generation got older, of course there were new gamers sprouting up in their wake, but not a huge sudden rush of them. Now we're in our 20s or early 30s and have kids, bills, and tons of other crap. Alot of the NES generation has left gaming for the most part. When Sony and MS created their high powered expensive systems, I think they didn't realise that the gaming population has been taking a small dive. Nintendo, on the other hand, is working to get them back with old school, simpler games and the VC. It's working. Combine that with all of the new gamers, and the Wii has a formula for massive success. Just my thoughts.

Because it's too complicated, they can't just jump into a game like Call of Duty, start them off with WiiPlay's 'Shooting Range'. There is time constraints, games like Final Fantasy XII, isn't pick up and play. If a non-gamer doesn't see immidiate fun, they won't look into it. The Wii has that instant fun factor that will grab their attention long enough for them to see games the way we do. Which can then turn them into casuals, and finally actual gamers. Like the way everyone on this forum was.
No one on this forum was instantly a hardcore gamer. We luckily had games that had instant fun factor and were simply. They were instantly fun because video games were new, and they were simple because of the newness to the industry. Now adays gaming has gone down as far as the amount of people beause of this. We lost the quick easy games that got us back then, so Nintendo is bringing that back. What? It's bringing sexyback, What?
...sorry about that.
