Shipped number's don't mean nothing to me. They can say they shipped 100 billion units in UK alone if they wanted. Company's have investors to please and don't release these numbers for you and me.

Shipped means sold to retailers, which means that Nintendo has already seen all the money they will make directly off the sale (as opposed to indirect income like game sales).

The only problem with that logic is that the Wii is almost completely sold out in the US, and it does extraordinarily well in other countries. It's basicallly close to 20 million sold worldwide right now. Not bad for a little console that was thought to be a fad.

But companies can return those units if they wanted and get credit. This costs the maker money. It was this practice that rejuvinated the video game industry after the crash in the 80's.

usually you'd be right. cept in the case of wii. it's supply constrained so whatever is shipped gets sold VERY quickly.

Yeah you're right that they WILL be bought up. But how many of these senior citizens are going to play any other games aside from Wii Sports? Think about that.

True but as others have said, its not like Nintendo is having trouble moving units.

You know it crazy because the Wii is so close to outselling the GC in such a short period of time.

Yeah, us Hardcore are buying games. But why would the older players want anything else besides the game it comes with?

Yea those numbers are as of the end of the year so they have probably already surpassed the GC at this point. That's nuts.

Who cares? The Wii is selling hardware, and the Wii is selling software. Why would you obsess over your grandpa's choice in games if you're enjoying yourself?

for the wii to do so well in software sales with less userbase than the 360 in the US it would have to take more than just the "hardcore" wii owners.

But good for gamers all round. More consoles the more games we will get.

Already did, at friend's house. And yep, a bit sore now. Its cool, though, to actually get a bit sore from playing a game. Reminds me of when I first learned to play Guitar Hero, only, you know, not so focused on just one hand.

QFT. Many things sell quick in this world. Lasting appeal is what does the trick. The Wii doesn't have that.

Actually they can't do that anymore for the very reason you mentioned. Once they get the stock they are stuck with it... Which is why you see games sold at discount prices and consoles sold at discount prices sometimes. (rarely)

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. :| The Wii had the highest software tie-in ratio in December - so, people aren't just buying it for WiiSports. Give that weak argument up.
