Mines on standby 24/7

Yours is probably just a defective unit
Or there's a problem other than what you think it is.

This is a known problem that has affected a very small number of Wii systems.

Most Wii owners probably are aware that the system runs at a higher temperature in its passively cooled standby mode than in its actively cooled running mode.  A very small percentage of Wii systems suffer damage to their GPU chips under sufficient heat.

The GPU damage causes "sparkly" graphical artifacts, but the systems typically operate normally otherwise.

This usually happens as a result of high ambient temperatures or blocked ventilation.  It only affects a very small number of systems in any circumstances, so it is quite safe to run the Wii in standby mode.  It's unlikely to happen to you, and covered by warranty if it does.

Yeah, this is one of the worries I have about leaving mine on standby. Nintendo needs to make it so that the Wii turns on the fans periodically to cool down the system when it's on standby.

Hence is better to leave it on standby so if its indeed defective you get a replacement while still under warranty.

I Have not turned my Wii off for over a month. I think it is on Standyby (Orange light). Have not had any problems with it yet, however my Wii quite warm. I am not saying the TC is lying, but more details would be more helpful.

My little brother's actually had problems with their Wii, launch unit, suddenly stopped working with their Wiimotes... they sent it in for repairs, Nintendo had to send them a different Wii, they transferred over their downloads for virtual console but not their save games - you should back those up before you send it in, I guess.

I don't exactly know what was wrong with my brother's Wii, but they can have problems, I guess? I've heard of (rare cases) where Wii units get bricked by updates, but Nintendo customer service is supposed to be pretty friendly.

Back up your save games and play something else until your system gets replaced, is my advice.
