This arguement is getting really old.

Games like Mass Effect, MGS4, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 were not affected by the wii's popularity.

Heres why:

Most people buying it are casual gamers, people who would not bother with hardcore games like this. The wii has casual games from 3rd party developers that casual gamers are buying to play on their sofas once or twice a week. If there was no wii these people would talk to their family and friends and do normaler stuff (yes cuz thats a word) than play Halo 3 for 6 hours a day.

If anything hardcore games have become more popular. Assassin's Creed is only on "hardcore systems" like the 360 ps3 and pc, it sold 7+ million. Call of Duty 4 came from moderate success in CoD2 to massive 7+ million sales on the same system noted as having many hardcore games. These statistics hopefully mean something in that they blow away scepticism of casuals being allowed to have lives and game at the same time.

Agreed. 360/PS3 still get their hardcore games, regardless of Wii shovelware. Not to mention PC has tons of casual crap yet still gets stuff like Crysis.

Yep I agree Wii is not killing gaming, infact its helping gaming by making ways for new users to notice the industry and join in. PS3 & 360 titles sell well which proves that people prefer hardcore games as much as they prefer casual games.

It will have long term effects. It may not have effected XBOX360 or PS3 yet. But I can guarantee all the crap Wii has spawned will carry onto the next generation. Sony and Microsoft will follow. Correct your topic... Wii isn't killing gaming. . . . . yet.

Here's MY unfair poll:

o Admit that Nintendo is ruining gaming

o Get a sword through your head

You can't expect anyone to take you seriously when your only other option is ridiculous.

Nope, it is bringing more people into the loop of gaming which is fine in my book. As far as casual games go I don't mind them but the first party titles are all quality even though I really prefer Fire Emblem and would like to see another on wii. The thing that is killing gaming is people like Jack Thomspon; not casual players.

PC really only has 3rd party support as its a closed system, but yeah i see your point, not that sims is bad or anything but games like that are all the rage on pc.

Wise words. I'd add that the Wii has also some excellent "core games", even if not that much as the 360/PS3.

Nah, it is not killing hardcore gaming, lol. That is a ridiculous assumption in my opinion. I just think it is clear that Nintendo is going in a completely different direction, and they are currently just a shade of their former selves. Nintendo will always have it's audience, it is just looking to be an increasingly separate entity so that it will have no direct competition in the so called new or non gamer market that is increasingly becoming their primary focus. As that is where they are making the dough by the truck loads.

Meanwhile, I believe more of the so called 'core' gamers are going to continually and increasingly keep most of their focus on what is going on in the lands of PC, Microsoft and Sony. It is just becoming more of a separate market and each side will cater to the needs of their respective audiences accordingly. There is room for everybody, but in my opinion, I really have to say that I do have great disdain for Nintendo with the direction that they are choosing to go in. But, they are drowning in money, so I am sure that they really do not give a damn what the 'core gamer' thinks, despite what they may say to placate them temporarily. Just my 2 cents worth.

Truthfully the only thing the Wii is killing is fanboy's wishes that their chosen console will be number one.

The 360 and PS3 are killing hardcore games by casualizing what was on the PC.

Since I have the option of going through this entire generation of gaming without any of Nintendo's rubbish. Of course it isn't.

Do disney movies hurt companies that make more adult oriented movies?

Important distinction here though, nintnedo =\= disney because disney doesn't also make plenty of movies for mature audiences.

The Wii has replaced the board game for get-togethers and dinner party's. The new millenium's version of Jenga.

Thats a bit of a broad stroke of the situation. So I guess you mean Sony and MS are making hardcore pc game series more casual?

So if Bullfrog will never get a true Dungeon Keeper sequel, would you still let Bioware have a half-brained attempt at it seeing as the franchise is almost completely unmarketable to casuals? Same with Fallout.

So Nintendo IS...in fact, kiddie, as people have suggested throughout the years.

Let's put it this way: Would you have Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer direct and produce Godfather IV? Seeing as how their movies are way more popular and make way more money than Godfather ever was.

What about letting Dan Brown write a sequel to Nineteen Eighty-Four?

Oh God, I think I bled a little when I suggested that.....

Well i wouldn't say all developers who develop on PS3 and 360 are as bad as Dan Brown is. Think of them as Steven King, some real classics and some utter plop

Movie analogy: I see it as i saw Indiana Jones, loved the films before and saw the 4th one too. If it sucked i'd not call it a proper indi-film, and so i didn't. Same with other trilogy extensions from bygone eras like Die Hard 4 and Rambo, i atleast waited for their release to axe them from the history book in my own head.

I'm not sure what games in particular you mean, but tbh i'd rather have to option of a sucky star wars prequel than george lucas dropping dead.

Except Indy 4 was actually made by the guys who made Indy 1, 2, and 3. And it starred the same actors.

(BTW, I'm mostly referring to Fallout 3, and yes, I do think Bethesda is every bit as bad as game developers as Dan Brown is a writer. They are both well-known for making shallow, commercial products that are enjoyed initially by the masses, and then, after further scrutiny, garner a strong following of haters pelting them with stones and firebombs.)

the wii is changing the focus of the industry from core gamers to casuals, so yes i say it is. m$ and sony are both developing their own motion controllers, signs that they are poised to follow the wii's sucsess next gen.
