I like the Wii because its different, small and relatively cheap.. But lets face it fanboys, its only going to get old real quick.

Such talented developers held back by last-gen hardware. I can only imagine what SMG, Zelda, or MP3could have looked like using the Kameo engine. :(

Playing Crash Bandicoot in HDTV and then playing SMG in crappy Wii-resolution is like watchingan OKmovie in HD but a great movie in SD.. You want the best of both worlds.

Thing is, with the Wii, you know you areNEVER going to get better looking graphics. With the right devs on the 360 & PS3, you know you'll have not only a terrific game, but its going to look technically terrific as well.

Art style can only take you so far in a game when you have severe hardware limitations.

And something new like motion sensing... dude we haven't seen nothing yet of what is capable with it.

I mean, isn't it starting to get old to get the same kind of controls for the same kind of games time after time with just better graphics? :|

Are you saying that the developers working on games for the 360 and PS3 are talentless hacks?

the problem then becomes that if the wii had similar hardware to the ps3/360 then it would get a huge amount of multiplat ports with tacked on controls. It would basically be as ugly as those ps2 ports on the wii (although RE4 was pretty damn good. It is the exception to the rule though).

The wii's graphical inferiority will mean more exclusive titles because you cannot port between wii and another console. Exclusives are good because they will capture the nuances of the wii without sacrificing so much by having to have basically the same game on the other consoles. ie. zack and wiki, which is an experience the ps3 or 360 would have a lot of trouble duplicating.

The best controls are the kind that you dont need to think about.

Playing Zelda and SSBB and MP with new controls does NOT equal new or innovative gameplay.

They are the same style of games and play the same as they always have. Weather you flick your wrist or press a button its the same game.

First of all. The games are inherently different. They are after all different games! Secondly, how do you not link "new controls" (which is how you PLAY the GAME) with "new or innovative gameplay"?!

Lastly, how does playing the same style of games as you always have with exactly the same controls give you any room to judge whether some different is new or innovative?

Well at least with the Wii you know you're getting outdated hardware, and paying mainly for the motion sensing tech. After two years I've only gotten a 50 dollar price drop for outdated hardware on the 360. Consoles are casual anyway you cut it, people defending console tech like it's something amazing is what makes me sad.

Agreed. This was my exact thinking after playing Call of Duty 4 and Ace Combat 6. They're both visually stunning and have great presentation, but they're just retreading old ground. Call of Duty 4 feels no different from Call of Duty 3 in anything other than aesthetics and Ace Combat 6 actually felt like a step back from Ace Combat 5. And this just further reconfirmed what I've been thinking for a while now: I don't really care as much about graphics any more. I want a game that feels fresh, that's unique and makes me say "wow" without that "wow" being followed by "those are some good textures". That's why the Wii makes me happy. It's a breeding ground for uniqueness, for risk-taking like the PS3 and 360 just aren't. And in the increasingly sterile and repetitive world of gaming, that breath of fresh air is increasingly more vital.

see he gets it...

what he means is

better graphics, ai, physics= upgrades (upgraded video card, chip, etc)

with the wii its completely different. its totally new controls so its unique and at first even unorthodox. so its refreshing having a company trying to be innovative and bold. gaming has no future if no gaming company has the balls to take a risk and do something different.

None. Why?

1) Because it's last gen. :|

2) Mario's gameplay depends alot on gravity. There aren't many games like that so they don't take that much effort with gravity physics.

And to respond to crazyfool, I agree. Wiimote is refreshing and innovative. But that doesn't mean it'll be good this gen. New tech like that takes experimentation period. This gen will be just that for motion controls and the wii will/is the victim. You can see how many games flop simply b/c of controls. But you can see the potential with MP3 and RE4.

Read the GT review of SMG. They bring up a good point on the graphics topic for the game. Would enhanced technology have aided much in making that game look better? Honestly, probably not.

Also, I play my 64 more than any current console. The whole graphics thing is a completely useless topic. I couldn't care less what a game looks like, as long as I have fun playing it.

The Wii is just a little toy that's a bit of fun to play with friends, and nothing more. Nintendo took the easy way out by making such a weak system with motion controls that are barely ever used. I've probably used the sixaxis more in games than the Wiimote.

Wii's graphics are fine by me. I don't care if Wii games aren't using the latest bells and whistles, just so long as they're fun. I'm mainly a PC gamer so if I need my graphics fix, I go there. I like to play on my Wii when I just care about having some fun, maybe have some friends over. I played Wii Sports not too long ago for about 2 hours with a friend and had a lot of fun. I got the Wii at launch so to still find a game with simplistic controls and graphics very fun a whole year later speaks volumes.

When motion sensing is all the system has going for it then of course it sucks when you realise it isn't anything special. Many of us have been there.

RAW power + normal controller gives you more than a fancy controller and last-gen tech, unless you have low standards.

Yeah, games with last gen graphics can't be fun anymore huh? I mean who would want to play SMG or MP3, or Zelda TP? They look so dated compared to Lair or Ratchet and Clank, I mean we all know better graphics make a better game, right?I remember when gaming just used to be about having fun, now games need production values and have to sport all of these new graphical bells and whistles to even get noticed.

I don't know about MP3, but Zelda TP doesn't use the motion controls in an awesomely awesome way that would warrant such a degrading in graphics, and I don't see at all (though I haven't played them) how SMG and SPM use motion sensing in such a way as-well.

Pardon, I do acknowledge these are acclaimed games, but the argument here is "I hate what they did to it", not "Wii games suck". I understand why you responded like that to STABW0UND's comment, though.

i love the wii. the wii could either be the most frantic console out there that rivals arcade set up, or it can be the most comfortable relaxing console out there. A game like endless ocean for example could be the most comfortable, relaxing game on any console, thanks to the single handed wiimote set up.

or you can get frantic first person shooters like resident evil:UC where your shooting and slashing at the screen. theres many set ups out there for the wii, that basically can offer different experiences.

my favorite video game machine right now is the Nintendo ds, so youknow i would be easily pleased with the wii graphics.
