One big thing about the Wii is that developers seem to leave it out of multiplats-- multiplats that have been released on the 360 and PS3 include Modern Warfare 2, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2, Medal of Honor, and Red Dead Redemption. Upcoming multiplats for the 360 and PS3 that are not being released on the Wii include LA Noire and Homefront.

I have both a Wii and a 360, so I don't miss out on these multiplats, but I'd like everyone's input-- what do you suppose is the biggest reason developers leave out the Wii? Technical limitations? The Wii being a casual system? Motion control?

I think it's because of Technical Limitations.

It IS because of the technical limitations. No point in remaking a game for the Wii when 1) PS3/360 combined for potential sales are more than the Wii (or close anyways) to the Wii. 2) Third party games don't sell terribly well on the Wii.

There's no reason to put graphically demanding games on the Wii when they can release a multiplat game on three other systems. While the Wii does miss out on big named multiplats, the PS3, 360 and PC miss out on fp Wii exclusives and some lesser-known niche games.

Because of the Wii's inferior tech. I am glad I own a Wii and it has some great games, but son of a gun it is a inferior piece of hardware. Of course I would have rather payed 50 - 100 bucks more for the system to have better graphics, but alas I will have to live with Zelda and such with worse graphics :P. Where is my Skyward Sword info Nintendo!? :x

Biggest reason is because of the Wii's lack of ram. I'm sure with some games if developers really wanted to they could squeeze it into 88 MB but there isn't that much desire to see these games on the Wii or at least that's what the sales numbers are telling publishers.

Technical limitations unfortunately. I used to think it was only because of sales, but there have been a lot of successful third party games on the Wii as of late, especially when you consider they're cheaper to develop because of the hardware. Capcom, Ubisoft, Activision, and EA have all done really well on the platform, as well as a lot of niche games. I hope next gen Nintendo is comparable technically so I can get some of those multiplats, but I'm more than satisfied with all the games I have available right now :)

Errr... not even close man. While it is true that Ninty games are a must try, 4-5 titles don't really compare to the mountain of multis the PS360 share.

Funny how a console cannot handle Unreal Engine 3, but an iPhone and NGP can :|

Wii is pathetic. Please release a new system soon, Nintendo.

90% of my playing time over the last 2 years have been multiplats. Dragon Age, Fallout, Street Fighter, Call of Duty, BioShock, and countless others. I think multiplat games are awesome. Just because you can play it on more than one system doesn't mean the game itself is any worse.

So what? A lot of the games you listed aren't very good imo. Certainly not better than most FP Nintendo titles. Guess it all comes down to personal opinion.

Perhaps they're missing out on multiplats, but they're definitely not missing out on profits. MS and Sony can only gaze in awestruck wonder at Nintendo's mountain o money.

Considering that the multiplats are mostly pc ports, can't say I care too much about Wii missing out on them.

No, I'd say the majority of PS3 and 360 owners would rather exact revenge on the gods of Olympus and fight off the locus Hordes then pounce on some mushrooms.

You can't compare BioShock with Mario. They are too different to say which one is "better", so I agree its all just personal preference.. And at least multiplat games have loads of variety, while most of Nintendo games are family-oriented. Thats why having multplats on your system is important.

That would be because Ninty is #1 in my book, but I'm no blind fanboy, and one of the few on SW who only talks about games and systems I'm familiar with.

That's relative though. It could run all games the PS3 and 360 can just that the graphics and physics would be PS2 quality.

I don't think people bought a wii for multiplats.
And the reason it 'misses out' is because of technical limitations yes.
But you could also state that if it were technically superior, it would miss out on its potential as well with bad looking multiplats.

We already knew this, so it's not like it's new. The sole reason to own a Wii is because of its impressive library of exclusives.

It requires too much work Don't give me this "The Wii cannot handle" nonsense . COD4 came on the wii, and it was a well-made port. If they want it to sell well, the game should be WELL-MADE and WELL-ADVERTISED. Though piracy is an issue, as well.

Because there would have to be some serious downgrading of games for it to play on the Wii. Not really worth it for the devs.

I don't think anyone bought a Wii for multiplats anyways.

Nintendo's problem this gen has always been technical limitations, but Nintendo learned their lesson with the 3DS. They're lowering their first party quota so they can give third party developers a spot in the limelight. For the next Nintendo console I expect them to make a console a little bit more powerful than a PS3 (for cost reasons) and to have a new gimmick that will impress many and be hated by others (I don't believe the lackluster hardware is going to hurt them because MS and Sony are going to continue supporting the 360 and PS3 for another 5 years). During this time, Nintendo will gain a variety of third-party support (similar to the situation with the 3DS) and get many multiplats that Nintendo consoles have been missing this generation.

The CryEngine 3 is very flexible actually. Here is a "joke" CryEngine 3 demo on the Wii :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPNGfnedLJc

It would be interesting if they really ported Crysis over to the Wii and it would still manage to look better than the original Far Cry. Kinda like Doom on the SNES.

But it probably won't happen because it would require much work and the sales wouldn't be worth it.
