wii needs an update for HDTV

I'm all for letting Wii be "hardcore" for once, or at least try to, but is there any way that they can fix the firmware or make an HDMI adapter or something so it doesn't look like total vomit on my HDTV? Some of their upcoming games are tempting me to pull my Wii out of the closet and hook it up but I think I'd have to buy a cheap used old TV because that's what it's made for.

nope. Its not going to happen till next gen. Which should only be for nintendo atleast another year or two I believe

It would be pointless. It lacks the ability to push the pixels needed for HD.

I don't have a problem playing Wii games on my 57" HDTV. I don't even have problems playing NES games on my 57" HDTV. :P

The current model is still selling like crack, why should Nintendo disrupt that?

the HD consoles simply jumped over that problem, they fixed the HD thing first,

if we are lucky they might stop sucking til 2012

I use composite cables with my HDTV and I don't mind the picture quality at all! Hell, I even run my PS2 on that same HDTV. :P

If the ps2 could do it I'm sure the wii can.

If anything, the unreadable text issue that some games for the HD consoles have with SD TVs is far more serious and really does require some sort of patch. The Wii looks ok on an HDTV with component cables at 480p.

I have a 50" 1080p plasma and I dont mind the 576p picture my wii gives me I love playing super mario and pac-man on a masive screen

I use my Wii more than my PS3 and PC combined.

Also, the Wii doesn't "Need" anything, and can't be updated like how you think in a firmware update.

If all it could do was output at higher resolution, then no. The Wii's relatively low specs would still make it impossible to directly port games from the other current gen systems.

If the ps2 could do it I'm sure the wii can.

The Playstation 2's graphics chip was designed to output at different resolutions. The Gamecube's and so the Wii's wasn't.

What they've been doing with the DS is no different then most of their previous handhelds. It would be rather arbitrary to bring this strategy to their home consoles now.
