Wii = Next Gen, PS3 & 360 = Last gen

Also,your opinion =/= everyone's opinion. Many are fine with the dual sticks of last(and for the most part,current) gen.

They are all current gen. It depends on the timing of their release, not the capabilities of the console.

You are right in the consumer will choose though.

The next generation gaming is all about how you controll the game, how interactive and fun it is to watch and play.

We have rwached a point where we have a achieved the nicest graphics available thats still at a resonable price. (Ps3 blew this actually, the graphics are so not worth the price for a consoel IMO (just my opinion))
The last gens where defined by gaphical prowess... however now? things have changed the next gen is all about the feel and how you control.

beside, your argument sucks. what did the Gamecube add from the N64. graphics. graphics graphics graphics. and overall just betterness.

They're all current-gen consoles, as generation only refers to when they were released. 

The Wii, PS3 and 360 are all Next-Gen, or Current-Gen if you will, since they've been out for a while.

Frankly, all previous 5 generations had one thing in common: They all improved the graphics of the consoles from the gen before them. Why should the 7th gen be any difference? Heck, some generations were named after the graphic power (32/64 bit generation, for example). And so, 360 and PS3 simply can't be called last-gen. And technically Wii isn't, either.

Standards change, and you can say that Wii is the turning point, and that in the 8th/9th gen it will all be about gameplay. Until that's settled, PS3 and 360 are more "next-gen" in the form the term is used now.

And the graphic argument doesn't stand: Graphics DO make a game. Yeah, you heard it here first: I admit graphics make a game and I'll let you try and flame me. Story and gameplay are important, but how would the story be told and how would the gameplay be revolutionary in an SNES OoT? Right, that's why N64's OoT'S graphics made such a difference. Don't argue that "with cutting-edge graphics and no story and sucky gameplay the game would suck!", because that's completely different from what I said.

So yeah, all three consoles are next/current-gen, and that's it.

You are out of your mind!!! I played on the Wii for a good few hours and I played Wii Sports, Rayman, Zelda TP, Red Steel and that Turtle Game. I got to tell you that the Wii is a pice of crap! Next gen???? It is....for Nintendo. But other than that, it looks so bad that I could cry!! Even my PS2 pulls off better graphics than that. The controls are not even that good. To be honest I was thinking about getting it before I tryed it but now I wont get it because the experience is just too shalow. There is nothing in the Wii that's good! Zelda is a bad bad bad bad game!!! Its so bad I can't even belive that they made it. That Zelda game is last gen in every way. The graphics...the gameplay...even when the caracters speak. There is no voice acting, you have to read. Now that's really not next gen...that's last gen. Also...there is loading between small areas. What's up with that??? That whole system is a failure. It will end up like the GameCube no doubt about it. It just fooled people whit it's controls wich doesn't work good by the way at all! If you wanna get a next-gen system it's eather the 360 or the PS3.  Graphics and phisics and good gameplay is everything in a game. These are elements that none of the Wii games have.

I can change my controls by simply going out and buying a raceing weel for my system...or buying an arcade pad. It's nothing new.  Just look at the PC....it's been useing the mouse and the keyboard for how many years?? People still love to play on it!!

Definitely my view is one of those outside general consensus lol. Most people answered back with what they thought, others made out i was an immature 12 yr old yet their own reply indicated that back at them (sheep and cow shots were lame, i don't have brand loyalty i just go with what i thinks best, last console was ps2 all the way, go figure).

Actually, when put to the question most people shifted sideways conceding that all where together which i thought was strange for system wars. That or they picked at my choice of terms using next gen and last gen. For clarification next = this gen.

But yeah, ill admit myself i got pretty slammed but oh-well. Its how i think of it and i stand by what i think of the ps3 and 360. I got a response, more then enough and wont be looking at this thread again (i can only take so much flaming) so feel free to slander to your hearts content for the duration of the thread cause i wont be seeing it :P

I don't think the Wii's next-gen in the sense that it doesn't seem to have been derived from the previous gen, like the PS3 and 360.  The term "new-gen" makes more sense.

Either way, it's very much competing with the 360 and PS3. 

I can understand your thinking but there is one big flaw. Wii has done NOTHING or showed nothing up to this point in proving it is "next gen". Riviera_Phantom

If your definition of "next gen" is synonymous with "prettier graphics", then I'd agree.

EDIT: In any case, I would cite graphical prowess as a reason why it's not "next gen".  It's not next gen because it didn't come from the previous generation of consoles; it kinda came from out of nowhere.
