Wii ownz because non-gamers are buying it

we hardcore gamers may like to laugh at the Wii- but its Nintendo thats laughing all the way to the bank while MS & Sony are getting left for dust.

a coworker of mine bought a video game- she's 16- I asked what it was & it was Rayman Rabbits on Wii. so the conversation about games starts & all the girls are on about Wii this, Wii that, Wii fit, Wii sports etc. I hear talk of whole families playing it. I see wii consoles being bought at the local games store. & the Wii is easily the most popular console.

MS & Sony need to adapt accordingly.

microsoft and sony don't need to sell a console for casual games. they can introduce more casual games, but please, don't do the same thing that nintendo does with the wii. that will be disaster in the gaming industry. if they do casual gaming console, there will be no more gears of war, metal gear solid, uncharted, resistance, halo, killzone, god of war, mass effect, dead space and many more. you want that to happen?

Yeah I'll just switch to PC gaming, only reason i stay away is because Consoles happen to be more conveniant to me. Better than supporting and being bored silly by things like rayman raving rabbids. CreepyBacon

Nintendos biggest problem with casual or fad selling is that those people, historically; are not going to buy a ton of games. Games are ususally where the profit is and that is how all the third party developers make their money (this is also why the third party devs have not flocked to Nintendo even though they are enjoying a large sales lead).

It all comes down to making money and while nintendo is printing money with the Wii, the quality third party devs are not because the "casual gamer" is not buying five or ten games per year. So what you end up with is a console with huge sales and quite a bit of gimmicky shovelware thrown together at low cost in hopes of capturing some of the finicky Wii population.

ANYWAY, THE PS3 IS MUCH MORE THAN A BLU-RAY PLAYER.

Appealing to non gamers that like cheap crappy mini game compilations is nothing to be proud of on Nintendo's behalf. Sure they make money but it's only to make more cheap shovelware for the non gamers. If your a true gamer and want quality games, the wise choice would be to stay way clear of the Wii as Nintendo have made it very apparent that they don't want to cater to you anymore. They want to cater to the simple minded people, the non gamer casuals. It's easy and less costly. Wii is a toy, it's not a true gaming console. It lacks that quality. It doesn't even deserve to be in the same league as the XBOX360 and PS3. It might be winning in sales but rightfully so people are laughing, true gamers are laughing at how bad it is. Compared to having to make a game specifically tailored to the Wii's controls, I can see the appeal of multiplatform 360/PS3/PC releases to reach the largest base of hardcore gamers out there. I suppose you could port a Wii game to those 3 systems, but the critical reception would be less than enthusiastic given the high technical expectations of those platforms. Much simpler to just concentrate your development resources on the 360/PS3/PC version (or just 360/PC if you don't want to have to program across a different architecture).
