Wii Running Away!

The PS3 is showing great momentum... for a console $100 - $200 more expensive and not even a quarter as many games as its next gen competitor, I was actually surprised to see it so close in sales already. In fact, even with all the negative press surrounding the system before the launch, the system's performance since the launch would be really remarkable compared to any other console sales within the same amount of time after their launch........ if not for the Wii.

I know I always planned to get one eventually myself but I really expected to see it starting to lose steam by now. I think it's going to be very interesting to see how this gen actually shapes up.... could the Wii actually finish first??? Its sales numbers are staggering! I'm certainly not a fan of any of the software I've seen on the system so far... but I can't help but respect its sales numbers.

I didn't think the PS3 could pass the 360 until 2008/2009.... and that's probably still pretty accurate. But I think the Wii is going to surpass it in its first year:!: Hopefully that means they'll get some better 3rd party support this time around.... if not, then the sales WILL end up dying down. I think the next 2-3 years will be the most interesting we've ever seen in a console war... absolute heaven for a gamer!

Thanks. There still aren't any titles out for it that I want to own but Nintendo has really earned my respect purely off of their strategy for this gen....

I will get one as soon as there are 3-4 exclusives on it that I want as long as at least one of those include a MP or Fire Emblem title.

Very nice post. I agree with you about the Wii. There isn't much out there that interests me in the terms of software, but it is unbelievably popular. None of my local stores have them... I opted to get a 360 because I couldn't find a Wii, and I'm actually glad I did. I might have to buy a Wii in a year or so once the games start coming out and developers get a chance to put some real effort into the games they create. Impex

Yea... I do think that the Wii will be the first to show signs of slowing simply b/c of the technology it lacks compared to the other two (over a 7-8 yr time period).... but I also think that Nintendo will be able to be the first to the market with their next "next-gen" system simply b/c they were able to start making a profit from the very beginning this time around... their strategy has put them in a very interesting position. And even with the "lesser technology", I think that devs will be able to make some fun games for it as long as they focus on the strengths of the hardware.

Any way you cut it, the race is going to be a lot closer this gen IMO. And I don't see the Ninty coming in 3rd this gen... they'll either be 1st or 2nd.
