People said the same thing about the DS and looks how its doing. :DSAGE_OF_FIREYep - the Wii is in a similar situation as the DS. Graphics are under par, it lacks multimedia features, and it's viewed as a gimmick. But, then again, you can't exactly compare the handheld market to the console market.
Seriously..."The Wii is too successful! It will obviously drown in its success and flop!"
It COULD happen. But Nintendo's got their own lineup (BRAWL, Mario Galaxy, etc.). What are the chances?

It made the PSP look like a joke and it's outselling the PS2 which is outselling every other console.
Actually, the Wii outsold the PS2 in January, according to NPD.Please come up with a better argument. The Wii is not a gimmick.TrueReligion_
It's a repackaged GameCube with a motion sensor remote and tons of hype surrounding it. How is it NOT a gimmick? People will hype anything if priced low enough...

The DS and Wii are selling well because they are stylish. People say the Wii is outdated technology but it looks more high tech than my 360 and the wiimote certainly makes the 360 controller look dated. The graphics aren't that impressive but they are good enough and the majority of gamers will be going from the PS2 to the Wii or are non-gamers who don't care about cutting edge graphics.

I've been hearing "Wii is a fad" and "Wii will stop selling in 2007" for months now. It's almost March - when is this supposed to happen again?HeedleGlavin
Exactly two days after the DS stops selling and the PSP overtakes it in sales. This is expected happen in the year 2011 last I heard.

Funny considering its twice as powerful as the Gamecube which was only half as powerful as the original Xbox. If anything the 360 and PS3 are the gimmicks with all the technology that costs gamers a boat load to purchase, we are only playing games after all, a console shouldnt cost as much as your run of the mill laptop PC that can just play games, what a waste of money.

Yeah, it is nothing more than a slightly beefed up Gamecube with a motion sensor control. I doubt it is more than 15% faster than the Gamecube, which was already dated technology when it was released. The reason for the success of the platform is cheapness and human gullibility. Selling well is more a reflection of marketing tactics/price rather than the quality of the platform, which explains why the PC has better graphics, a better control schemes, better gameplay and etc but is overall less popular than the inferior console counterparts.

its stronger than xbox and gc. none of the wii games on launch were made from wii dev kits. sonic is the only wii game done from the ground up at this point. and the graphics were good. not ps3 or 360 but good. second that motion sensor remote add something new in terms of gameplay. if anything bluray is the gimmick. cause it aint like ps3 is selling because of great games. it just happens to be a fact that ps3 is the cheapest blu ray player on the market. thats a gimmick using a media feature to sell ur videogame system. i dont care if my system has dvd or not. all i want is good games. and an online gaming feature. wii is still missing the later but they are coming. so im still waiting for the good ps3 games.I think Sony was right about the impulse buy comment. I see wii sales droping within a year from now, while PS3 and 360 pick up YOY (year over year). I think the wii controller will wear off and people are gonna be comparing games and specs. Are you freakin kidding me? Strong sales are NEVER a bad thing. Nintendo takes those sales numbers and waves them in front of developers saying "Hay, look how many people could buy that game your making if you put it on our system instead of the other system."

Hi Def
I think in the near future PS3 will come into it's own while 360 continues to gain marketshare. i think the only people that will still want a wii will be a few million DS owners. or maybe a poor person looking to take a break from thier ps2 or GC.

I think the wii represents an impulse purchase.
A lot of wii owners will NEVER buy very many games.

Within this "year" alone, there are many highly anticipated games coming out for the Wii that will surely keep the momentum going this year.

It's been said before, and it didnt happen, what makes you think your prediction is better than anyone who said the Wii would flop by now when it launched?

I happen to think the wii will slow down as the years pass while the other two get stronger. So get angry with me, meh.. I dont really care.

I think this thread was written by an MS fanboy who can't believe the Wii has already cut the 360 marketshare in half. I see him sitting in a corner, rocking and crying to himself 'It can't be!!'. I think, at some point (hopefully sooner, rather than later), he's going to see how ridiculous it is to feel threatened by the success of a videogame console.
I think in the near future, he is going to sign onto Gamespot and notice his sig has Wii and 360 numbers marked dead even. I think at that point, he'll be the only one in this forum to still think the Wii is going to fail.
See? I can write a post with a whole lotta 'I thinks' as well... ...and mine makes more sense than yours. :P
