I really think that the success of the Wii is hurting MS more then Sony..

My reason is thus, Sony now has the time to get the production cost of the PS3 down and also more time to get the PS3 library of games built up in time for this xmas..

I think that without the Wii the head start by MS and cost point between the 2 would have been just to much for the PS3 to over come..

So the Wii in a non intended way might in the long run help Sony catch up to the MS..

The only problem I see with this idea is, what happens if the Wii just keeps on going and going justlike the Energizer Bunny?

It's just a thought tell me if you see it different..

Well I think that if anything it will hurt Sony more than MS because the 360 has already been out for quite some time and already has good sales. Also the 360 has been out longer so they are more likely to have a price drop before the PS3. Well the sales will come down to how good theconsoles are themselves.

Yeah you're absolutely right. This would be the time right now that 360 would be the one vaulting forward in sales but instead is treading water. The holiday season is the only time of the year the big consoles are going to sell well at this point and by then Sony will have the games and services to easily match 360. Wii is going to dominate overall in sales at least for a few years but one of the high end consoles will dominate that market. This initial Wii hype is just giving Sony the time they need to make PS3 a good platform and void the year advantage in software of 360.

both of them ...

I think PS3 and 360 price drops will come and Wii might feel the pressure then ( Core 360 @ 249 ... PS3 @ 499 ... )

Sony.

If the Wii wasn't here, the PS3 would be outselling the 360 in all territories (sans NA maybe). And where it's already outselling it, it would be doing it at a higher rate.

Definately Sony for all the reasons already stated. Everyone who really wanted a 360 had already bought one. With the PS3's price as it is andwith the PS3 and Wii launching at approximately the same time, people were able to make a choice, buy a PS3 or Wii or the 360 with a larger game selection. I think the PS3 lost out a lot with Sony not giving Nintendo enough credit and relying on previous success. Taking us for mindless fools really, showed them though.

Sony.

The 360 got a bit of a run without the Wii around. Also, Sony relies much more on Japan than the 360 does for success (look at how they subsidised the cost of the PS3 there), and Nintendo is totally destroying everyone there.

Sony. To me the ps3 system has no idea what it is- it tries to use hardcore gaming graphics and tech lingo to impress their strongest market casuals.. That just doesn't work, for multiple reasons.

Microsoft is a Hardcore Gamers Console, Wii a casuals one and the ps3 has no idea.

Interesting question.

I think Wii sales hurt MS more, as they're closer in price. It would make sense that if you're willing to pay 250, you'd be willing to pay 300, right? Yes, yes, the Core.

People going for a PS3 either have the money, or already know they want it, and won't be dissuaded OR they'll buy both.

Inexperienced and young posters shouldn't talk about things they don't understand. If you wanna dwell into it then technically it's hurting Sony more RIGHT NOW simply because of praise and hype but you have to understand that wii is so different from PS3/360 that in the LONG run it's not going to hurt either of them. With the current lineup of games and the software sales statistics, Wii's sales don't mean anything to developers who want to make games on 360/PS3.

Not if the 360/PS3 are succesful and they will be if you combine the market for both consoles. Developers are smart enough to know Wii isn't the right console for traditional games that's why SCIV was not announced for Wii instead an action game with specifc controls.

Unfortunately, the 360 has an amazing line up, yet its failing in sales. The XBOX is yet another failure, and you wont see a third one. MS and Sony should throw the towel in before making even larger losses

Sure developers want to develop whatever the hell they want, but its not developers who hand over the money is it- its publishers.

personally if i was MS, i would be really embarrsed right now. reason is having a year head start, having bunch of games out . but yet here comes wii only under 2mil from taking the crown from MS . now to me that is pretty sad. it only shows to me that MS is not recognized as a gaming company :(.

oh we cant forget about the ps3 now. in their own homeland they are getting a pretty big beating. but i feel its because of no games out for the system that JA likes. so until they get games out, they will get a huge beating from Nintendo.

Moral of the story, head start doesnt = you will win this gen. MS has shown us that just like the Dreamcast did.

i think sony. just because of japan alone. if there was no wii the choice would be between 360 and ps3. sure there would be a lot that don't buy either but there would be a lot more that would have bought a ps3.

Neither.

X360 and PS3 are not targeting grandma and grandpa. They are not going for people who don't traditionally play games. Wii is targeting a different audience. Right now both are overpriced for the general population of gamers to take the leap into the new consoles. When both get cheaper, they'll be like they were last gen.

Wii is doing great not because it's convincing ALL gamers to buy in, it's doing great because non-gamers are buying in.

ahhhhhhh well it obviously hurts Sony more because they are the actual competetors in Japan. Also ever heard of the Wii60 combo? Ya. I even heard MS and Nintendo might try to do something together with the 2 systems. Least thats what I think I heard.

Your argument does not makes sense. You have not shown why the wii has effected xbox360 sales more negatively than the ps3. Also...I think you are wrong. Japan is a huge part of gaming and nintendo has stolen this from sony. This will result in a much lower return on some of their old exclusive titles (final fantasy).

Go ask Sony in Japan what they think. The Sony brand is being annhilated there. Worldwide MS have gone from 2nd (albeit probably temporarily) to 1st Sony have gone from a giant lead in 1st to a very distant 3rd. Hmmm its so hard to decide who the Wii's sales is hurting most.

One console selling doesn't hurt the others. A Wii sold doesn't mean a customer stolen from Sony of MS.

I don't know if it is hurting either to me the price is the biggest factor hurting both of them...The fact that the 360 and the PS3 are slow in sales right now is not unusual for this time of year....What the Wii is doing with sales has only been done by the PS2 but not to this level

How is the Wii hurting xbox at all... may 360 owners own a wii too... like me. I chose the Wii for my primary system to play most japanese games which will slowly shift away from playstation and move onto the wii. The wii is killing the playstation in japan.... and the ps3 has no shot against the 360 in the united states.... you also wont see wester developers like bioware abandon the 360 (like eastern developers mass exodus to the wii) since they primarily support PC based game engines.
