My point exactly so why do fanboys brag about sales ?
Nintendo fans brag about sales so it justifys their purchase. They also hide behind Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Metroid.....when there are many, many, many great games on 360 and PS3 that dwarf the Wiis "hardcore" selection.
If u ask me, I wouldnt even call Mario, animal crossing, or any Nintendo franchise "hardcore". Gears of War, Resistence, Forza, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid. Those are core games.
until the wii produces some hardcore games that appeal to main market which is the ps3/xbox360/pc gamers....it will never be the king of consoles in terms of games library.
yes its the king of sales but by nintendo making so much money off this money printing machine you would only expect them to secure some exclusives or fund some better game development.....but no

im surprised with all their profit they arent investing in a harddrive addon, a better online network, hire more staff to crank out games faster, acquiring Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, GB, GB coor, GB Advance for the Virtual Console.
maybe they are putting all their profit into research and developement for the next gen console?

notice that the majority of the "hardcore" games you listed are shooters. =/

EXACTLY! so much money and all they do is crank out more shovelware....heck they dont even have to pay the devs for some of the junk its receiving....they could easily secure exclusives with all that money, come out with a harddrive (rumoured to be coming anyway), have a better online service like you said.
and i seriously doubt they will be putting all that profit into the next console i mean i expect them to follow suit with the wii and release a cheaper system than the other big 2 but this time around it will be a hd console
Sales benefit Nintendo and reinforce the notion that fun and gameplay are more important to gamers than graphics and violence. On SW the people known a cows and lemmings usually don't like the game lineup on the Wii, but in the real world the Wii is the most critically acclaimed console and by far the most well-liked system this generation.
It's a "take it, or leave it" type of situation. If you aren't a big fan of 1st party Nintendo games then the Wii probably isn't the right system to own.

whats your point? Its correct to say that the shooter genre is among the most core genres out there.
What constitutes a "core" game also includes
1. a mature story
2. Not required, but a M rating helps.
3. Mature/realistic settings. (MGS4, Gears, KZ2, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed)
4. Not accessable by those who do not normally play video games. Core games require quick reflexes and practise to master.
NO nintendo franchise meets the criteria. None. Sorry.

its clear the majority of Wiis critical acclaim comes from people who are not avid or core gamers.

dude think about it. if your a kid and you see a wii against a ps3 or xbox360.....your parents will look at the price and look at what kind of games are available on the system...they wouldnt want to buy such an expensive console for a kid only to find it has games full of gore and blood etc....
so obviously wii will the most popular with the younger generation of kids. plus there favourite anime show has a game on the system...pokemon! (once my fav too :P)

its common sense. Im sorry if you cant deal with Nintendo not having any true core games. Thats nothing to be ashamed of....unless your insecure.
its clear the majority of Wiis critical acclaim comes from people who are not avid or core gamers.
-General_Ram-
That's your opinion. Not that I disagree with you, but when I last saw the tie ratios for each system the Wii had a greater average than the PS3. So it might be argued that the PS3 is selling to Blu-Ray casuals and not to avid or core gamers. It's all perspective.
Nintendo made a critical decision in not making the Wii even remotely close to the 360 and PS3 in power. We'll see if it pays off in the long run. Maybe all the casuals will leave and the core gamers will dislike the Wii. Who knows what will happen?
common sense ay? by your logic, any other genre (I.E, avdenture, rpg, racing, fighting) aren't core games :|
FYI, i own a 360 as well. and i very well know the wii doesn't have that many core games
Sonick54
ok, glad to see were kinda on the same page.
Im just arguing that if Nintendo 1st party games are accessible to everybody, INCLUDING casuals, that automatically makes Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc. automatically not truly hardcore.
At the very least, a core game can be defined as a game that requires practise to master and a game that isnt accessible to non-gamers.
Aggreeable?

I'd have to disagree. GTA IV and Soul Calibur IV don't take anymore skill than Metroid Prime or Zelda. Mario is easy at first, but is generally very difficult as the games progress.

GTA4 takes skill to truly master. A casual wont know what they are doing.......and fighters dont count...as they can be button mashed to victory.

Can I sig this ?
do it.

-General_Ram-
Not really. GTA IV can be finished by any average person. Try to "master" SMB, it's actually harder imo. I've seen first hand that GTA is extremely popular with women and children. Not as much as with wannabe gansters, but still. So the major fanbase of GTA IV is women, children, and wannabe gangsta rappers. That's hardcore.
GTA IV and SCIV are both "core" games, and so are Zelda and Metroid. Each person will define "hardcore" differently.
If the Wii had PS3 or 360 graphics then I would accept it.
But as it stand the Wii is an abomination to gaming.

very true. but at teh same time its helping gaming to become a mass market medium, on the same level as music and movies. That is very good. Then our parents will no longer be disapointed in us when we game lol.
I dont like how were getting there, but I guess the end justifies the means.

agreed. it's what puts off casuals to begin with ironically.
