Think about it...

Because the Wii has sold/is selling so many systems...why even try to make good games??

Ever since launch developers "have been lazy," and thats the reason why there are barely any good games, and the graphics are so terrible (you cant deny the graphics are awful...75% of the games for the thing can be done on a psp....)

Either the developers are lazy....or the system just isnt any good.....I like to think that the developers are just lazy, but.......thats just as bad

With so many Wii's sold, as a developer, why even bother putting so much time into a game?? They can just quickly make a terrible game, throw some controls on it, and then ship it......and TOOONS of people will buy it...so, PROFIT $$$

There really isnt any incentive to make any good games...they can do pretty much whatever they want and still sell tons, and from the looks of the games Wii currently has, thats what it seems like Devs have been doing ever since the start...

There seems to be only 2 or 3 games worth buying.....

Hopefully Im wrong...

Although what he's trying to say is kind of hard to understand with the way he worded it, I think I get it.

Basically, 3rd party developers are looking at the Wii, and seeing a great game like mp3 do pretty poorly in sales for the userbase (compared to expectations imo). Then they look at stuff like carnival games, that sells well on the Wii. The time to develop a great game like mp3 compared to some stupid mini-games is drastic, and there is no real reward for making a better game.

That is what scares me about the Wii.

games like cooking mama don't sell well on the wii. The only game like that to sell well was wii play, but that came with a free wiimote

Crap games don't sell. Those who are throwing together games with little to no effort are NOT making TONS of money.

The PS2 didn't have a killer app or a million seller until 15 months after its Japanese launch, and 9 months after its US launch. You fail.

well what I mean is look at games like NBA Live....the entire game was pathetic...shouldnt have ever come out...

But because so many people own Wii's, EA knows its gonna sell anyway....so why should they bother wasting time and money on making it good??

So Wii could end up a garbage system thats used primarily for developers to make money....so they can put those profits into other games for other systems...

Except very few of the "crap" games have sold well. Metroid has sold pretty solidly, so has Resident Evil 4. The flood of crap is basically developers trying to grab cash from people who don't know any better (because the Wii is their first systemin years), before they get educated.

No, it won't sell anyway. Madden games are much bigger than NBA Live and it sold awful on the Wii compared to all the other consoles. EA isn't getting the free cash you think they're getting.

I have to disagree. If this were the case, then it would have happened to other systems like the PS, PS2, GBA, and the DS. But the quality games were still there. There is a certain audience that does go for games that are minigames, but if every dev goes for that market, they'll leave an untapped sector of the market that is profitable as well. So 3rd parties need to have a balance of both types of games because the quality games have the potential to sell millions of copies.

Except it probably won't sell well, Madden 2008 definitely didn't. More likely EA knows that it isn't gonna sell well and so didn't bother putting any money into development.

The only garbage game that has sold good is Mario Party 8.

Wii Sports comes with most Wiis, and Wii Play comes with the controller so those don't count.

But, what's next on the list are games like Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario.

Metroid games have never sold good. Metroid Prime, the best game of last gen according to gamerankings, sold less than 2 million.

Wii wouldn't be getting anything if it weren't for the sales. Third parties only took interest when the sales went through the roof. Something is better than nothing.

No, I'm not joking. I'm challenging you to backup your argument with actual numbers.

Awful games also profit greatly on the 360 and PS3, too. And on the Xbox and PS2. And GameCube. And N64. And PS1. And Saturn. And....get my meaning? You have to show that awful games sell MORE on the Wii than they ever have on any other system, otherwise your argument that "Devs will be content to release bad games if only they sell well," falls apart completely because systems have ALWAYS had bad games that sold well, yet there were always devs that STILL tried their best.

Not that this really matters. Anyone with a lick of sense knows that the big studios are driven more than just by the blind need for profit. Games may not be art yet, but that doesn't mean game developers don't want to stretch their creativity, no matter what platform they're working on.

The TC is wrong.

The PS1 had a gazzilion games made for it just because it was such a hot ticket. Most were garbage. But many were true classics.

Not ALL developers will be lazy about it. Many will. But the good ones know that the quality of their games will reflect on their reputation and affect future sales of other titles as well.

Metroid Prime 3 actually surpassed Prime 2 in a very short amount of time saleswise, I don't know where you're getting your information.

If I remember correctly a certain 50 Cent Bulletproof sold quite well on a certain system last generation, so that's a hard comparison to make.

So Metroid Prime 3 selling half a million copies in a month isn't good enough anymore? Carnival Games hasn't even reached 100k sales yet and it's been out just as long. Metroid Prime 3 is outselling any "mini-game" game, and Resident Evil 4 has sold 800k worldwide as well. Both of these more "traditional" games will be past a million by the end of the holidays and that number isn't anything to scoff at.
