"I believe the Wii will continue strong growth although supply continues to be a problem," Pidgeon said. "I'd like to see Wii hardware shipping in larger quantities or mass market consumers may cool on it. Having said that, I don't believe supply will meet demand for the Wii until 2009.

Despite his awesome name, he is an analyst, so I don't trust or care what he says.

Analysts suck at their jobs, because their jobs suck.

Somehow I doubt that.

And besides, by that point, people may give up in combing out Wiis and just go to the readily available PS3s or 360s.

Doubtful. There were rumors flying around that Nintendo held back Wiis in March because they already hit their target number. April's numbers should strong. I think they shipped more and people are still lining up to get them.

I see the Wii drought ending in the summer, but there could be a Wii shortage during the holiday season this year.  2009?  Heck, no!  They'll be widely available by 2008 at the latest.

Then again, you can't believe anybody's analysis... even mine.

I see the shortages lasting until the end of the year/beginning of 2008...

unless Nintendo or another developer creates the most awesomest game of all time that everyone will like and just needs to be bought... then the shortages might last until 2009. >_>

The hardware isn't much harder to manufacture than the 360 or PS3 at the moment. All each of these companies due is assemble the parts supplied to them by the companies who do all the technical work - like IBM. The issue is production capacity. Nintendo is at the point where they need to either build new factories or license the production out (which also takes time to set up, and is a difficult business decision to make. What if you spend the money for this extra capacity and demand suddenly drops? You spend millions of dollars for nothing).

Super Smash Bros. Brawl could be that game... but it's not gonna cause Wii droughts throughout 2008.
