Linky.
Well, that's unfortunate. I was hoping it would be compatible with other games.

I see it being used in the future, whether that be GC VC games, (if they ever come) or if they later consider using it with future titles.
Nintendo really screwed themselves tying Smash Bros gameplay into the gamecube controller. Now every gen they need to find a way to put that controller on their system.
very lame. I was actually hoping it would support older Wii titles.

Actually what Hori is doing is the way to go. Make Gamecube inspired Classic Controllers for Smash. The Nintendo's Addon is just an Addon for those who want a Wired connection. (it's for Tourney bros.)

Unfortunately, this would require a metric **** ton of patches, one for each game.
What I want to know is: are those GC controllers they're releasing AT LEAST compatible with GameCube's and Wii's with BC?

Well, you can also blame the people who say they "can't play Smash without a GC controller." (Seriously, the CC Pro is just fine)
That's pretty lame, but I guess the adapter is for the competitive smash scene anyways. The people that enter into tournaments will have to buy this because there's no way they'd risk using a wireless controller when money's on the line.
I'm sure the Homebrew people will make use of it with the Wii U's ability to play GC ISOs, and if they can I'm sure Nintendo can (though doubtful) open a GameCube VC games section on the Wii U eShop.
@nintendoboy16: I don't think they are. :( I feel the negativity surrounding this news will make them make later Wii U games compatible. Or not who knows, it would get confusing to have a GC controller, a Wii remote, a Gamepad, and a Pro controller as compatible with the Wii U.
Good thing I didn't preorder the bundle but man... I just don't get nintendo what a stupid and pointless bundle if it only works for one thing just include the classic pro controller

Well, the only way to find that out is when someone has one of those GC controllers in their hands and tries to test it. I admit, I have doubts myself, but it would be nice to see official controllers again.

Again, the people who begged Nintendo for this just because they "can't play Smash without a Cube controller" also get blame for this.
Well, yeah, I figured. The GCN controller is being treated as a Smash fight stick by Nintendo.
To everyone who is whining and bitching about this- the Wii U is currently compatible with the Wii U Pad, Wii U Pro, Wii Remote, Wii Remote & Nunchuk, Wii Classic Controller, and Wii Classic Controller Pro, that's a stupid range of controllers to be compatible with. Surely you've found another controller that you like among all those controller combos, one that you like enough that bitching about yet another controller type is lame as ****. If you are, it's not because Nintendo's being unreasonable or lame, it's because you are.
@nintendoboy16: Yeah, I checked again and it isn't compatible with Wii either unfortunately. And I suppose it implies the GC BC on the Wii as well.

"The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U is compatible with Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U specifically - it is not compatible with any other Wii U software. The adapter is also not compatible with Wii and we apologise for any confusion."
They used the term "Adapter" (as in, the multitap that plugs into the Wii U system), not the controllers themselves though. So, I still don't know.

Dude, just look at the comments in this Nintendo Life article. Oh, jeez...

HORI's controllers look horrible though, and these are the same guys who made the awesome GB Player controller for the GameCube.

These look terrible?
They look better than the PDP ones.
Wii U Pro Controller is immensely better than the highly overrated GC controller.
But it feels like I'm always scrounging for different control schemes to work on the Wii U, so more options would have been nice.
And lol at the mention of GC games on the VC. They released exactly zero on N64 games, so I doubt that happens in our lifetimes.
It's a shame, although I bet implementing such compatibility with existing Wii U games as well as Wii games would be more effort than it's worth. The fact that the Wii U Pro controller is not compatible with Wii games makes this news unsurprising.

Yeah, HORI's pad is very cheap looking. From my VERY limited experience with their controllers, that is not like them.
I thought this was already assumed
It's still 110% worth it, playing a console Smash Bros. without a Gamecube controller is nigh impossible
Hopefully they will change their mind. Would love to see some Gamecube games show up on the virtual console. Mario Sunshine, and Luigi's Mansion are two that come to mind.
Isn't there third party Gamecube controllers for WiiU? Or am I being a stupid prick?
Still need the 30$ adapter
Unless you get the HORI and/or PDP ones that plug into the Wii Remote.

Right? Nintendo has been sitting on a gold mine when it comes to Virtual Console, and find ways to suck dick at that.
It's like impressive the countless ways Nintendo will do less, the mother fuckers have turned into doing less with more into an art form.
