Sad.....I had my heart set on it being called the "Nintendo U", after that rumor came out :(

http://www.gamexplain.com/article-755-1337985093-wii-u-name-and--logo-confirmed-not-changing.html

Nintendo just released a high resolution version of their logo mere minutes ago on their official site for press, and it confirms what we've suspected: the name and logo are not changing. Here's the logo in its latest form:

Besides a slightly darker hue blue, the logo is otherwise 100% faithful to last year's. And if that weren't enough, the file name itself confirms this is the logo that will be used at E3 2012:

Though many had suspected Nintendo might announce a new name and logo at E3 due to their tepid reaction last year, these hopes were partially dashed when an image surfaced last week of what appeared to be the final Wii U controller, which contained the same logo.

Unless Nintendo's planning on Punk'ing the entire industry, the name and logo are final and won't be changed. Make sure to keep tabs on GameXplain for more news from E3 itself, starting in less than two weeks!

I hoped they would name it something different, but meh guess their trying to wave the name about in the hopes that some people that have a Wii buy it due to the similar name.

This. They at least need to make the console look different than the Wii, what they had shown earlier makes it look TOO similar to the Wii I can see this being a problem for them.

Considering the controller, the colour scheme's staying.
That leaves the shape of the console itself and, well, I'm not particularly imaginative on that front.

I guess it's up to some aggressive marketing to get the job done.
Can't be too hard to emphasize the difference in power, can it?
Comparing the two consoles in the same advertisement would certainly help.

And if those new rumors of it using a 6770 are to be believed (which is reasonable), it is going to be significantly more powerful than people think it is, especially compared to a 360.

It wont be more powerful than the PS4 or 720, but it WILL be your normal generational leap over this gen. 800 unified shader cores, or "stream processors", which is literally 16 times the amount of unified shaders in the 360, and it embarasses the PS3 even more. (the PS3 doesnt even use a unified shading architexture. It has 24 dedicated pixel shaders, and 8 vertex shaders). Oh, and these shaders will also be clocked more than DOUBLE the 360's.

It also has double the ROPS (render output units) as a 360/PS3. (Wii U= 16 to the 360/PS3's 8), so it will do 1080p 30fps no problem. It SHOULD have 32, then 1080p 60fps would be the standard, but I imagine with 16 we will see most games at 30fps, with a select few hitting 60.

"SIGH" to me and you that means something but to the general public that doesn't frequent videogames websites it doesn't.

I've got used to it, just like with the Wii. Let's hope Nintendo market it as a separate system though.

pretty much this. They should've went with another name and prevent the confusion. Here come the commercials "This is not Wii, this is Nintendo Wii U". Way to go Nintendo.

Makes sense. 1. They already debuted the console under the name, despite confusion, and renaming it would just create more. 2. The "Wii" brand is an invaluable asset to Nintendo's marketing strategy, and would create interest among many people who wouldn't look at the console if called "Nintendo U" or "Nintendo Revolution". 3. If they are able to learn from the 3DS start-line fiasco, and properly differentiate it from the Wii, there will be no issues come Christmas. 4. Considering the platform will feature 100% backwards compatibility with Wii games and peripherals, I don't see why they would not continue the Wii line. We have the "Playstation" and "Xbox", why not "Wii"?

To prevent confusion, they should really give the console itself a re design so it looks distinctive and everyone can easily recognize that the WiiU isn't a tablet controller but a whole new system. I think that was Nintendo's issue last e3. We saw so much of the controller and none of the console itself. Now lots of people think it's just a new Wii peripheral

Because of the Wii.

Well as little use as I got out of the Wii, it was a huge success of Ninty. So I can't really blame them. I still would love to know the percentage of Wii owners who still own one or even use it if they still own it.

Bad move, they should ditch the Wii name to avoid confusion if they had their hearts set on "U."

The Wii name brand sold a f*ckton of units just like PS2 did so it would be equivalent to Sony changing their Playstation brand name, or worse, considering the sales of PS3.

Thats a bad descision. People are going to think this is a £250 add on for the Wii. With the exception of the NES/SNES all the Nintendo home consoles have had different names thus far.
