So we are back to this, they are still working on developing the console...so I doubt they would have wanted to give out a large amount of information for the system half a year ago. However, the big change for the system is the HD graphics and the tablet controller...so they focused on both of those. I thought it was agreed that that made sense at the time, and that it was casuals who would most likely be confused
Well if you look on both, controller is more interesting then console it self.... it's just a box. Even of they show the box more it won't change the fact that controller i main new thing here
"When did a gaming system become more focused on the controller than the actual console?" lolthemagicbum9720
Nintendo came out awhile ago and admitted that they showed off the Wii U the wrong way and admitted that they gave people the wrong idea about the system. Thats why they also said that they will be re-unvealing the Wii U at next years E3 so that people will get the right idea. After next years E3, thats when people can come out and say that the Wii U isnt even trying.
"When did a gaming system become more focused on the controller than the actual console?" lolthemagicbum9720Dec 06 @ wii launch
The design of the Wii U. The console design seems to be based on Apple style of design. Another white rounded soft edged rectangle. Which just houses the Nintendo version of Blu-Ray discs loadingslot, HCSD memory card slot.
Nintendo hasn't been really ground breacking for the visual looks of its consoles. NES,(basic VCR toaster box) PAL/Japanese SNES, (Basic rectangle rounded)The Gamecube (Cube shaped Box with handle) Wii (white Apple inspired rectangle)
The North American SNES,Nintendo changed the look to suit the NSTC market. The Nintendo 64 (Nintendo's most interesting looking console)
So I hope Nintendo put more thought into the internal design of the Wii U. Theoutside design of consoles is not Nintendo's strong suit.Nintendo had best be trying to have decent on-line. Which Nintendo has never been good at.
Nintendo will go the sega route at the end of the next gen. WomanDogby becoming a horrible dev and all its IP's turning to crap?
. "It's just a box!" Reggie
It's just a damn box. Not finalised hardware.
. When did it become about what's in the box? At this point how you interact with the gameworld is more important. We need new possibilies for interaction.
. The new exciting thing Nintendo wanted to show with the console is the controller, not the (unfinalised) specs. In case you haven't noticed, Nintendo doesn't release official specs anymore.

I'd say the biggest problem is the name. How do you not sound like a dumbass when saying Wii U?
Wii-U4Fun
Think about it, PlayStation and Xbox (and 360, let's not forget Vita) are not awesome names either, but you know what? We got used to them.
that may be, but many people who dont follow the industry closely are very confused by its name. and many are confused as to whether its just a new controller or not. the name is too general and doesn't tell then enough.[QUOTE="megadeth1117"]

No ... Playstation is awesome name its been around for 18 years now buddy ... it never sounded weird at all. Xbox doesn't sound weird either.Nintendo will go the sega route at the end of the next gen. WomanDog
That's what people were saying two gens before yet it still didn't happen ;)

maybe, but i'm still referring to gamers. if they don't know anything about it by now, thats bad on the name.Would you be more excited about a George Forman grill design? Honestly if what matters to you is the design of the case of the system I think you have strange priorities. I don't think many people talk about the design of consoles in general and the only system I think actually looks good that has been put out there since the Sega Genesis is the Xbox 360 S.
If I were to create a thread like this I would bring up the rumors of how Wii U is supposedly running DX10, while The other consoles are supposedly running with DX11. Of course those are purely rumors but at least it's more substance than complaining about the case.

Advertising will sort that out. People said the same about the 3DS but with advertisements, I think the majority of people will know that it is a new console.
I don't think gamers don't know much because of the name, they don't know because Nintendo haven''t revealed much. The final design or even hardware inside isn't known yet, we will find out everything at E3 or whatever events are before it's late 2012 launch.

This year was a pre-reveal and next year is the full reveal.
Gamers who don't follow E3 couldn't be confused wether it's a controller or a new console since their source of news, the mass media, reported it as being a new console after E3.
The name was also clearly explained at the E3 event.

hope you're right. tho there's still a large number that think the 3DS is just a 3DS that adds 3d to it. but i hope they do. then again, i don't plan on getting it until i see a number of games i'd be interested in anyways. which i'm not sure if that'll happen tbh =/im glad nintendo is not run by what SW has to say about it. If it were up to you guys gaming would never change. we would have the same limted controls forever and ever. SW is the most conservative place i can think of. Any change what so ever you guys are jumping up and down screaming like a zoo full of chimps.
I realized that with the Wii U nothing is seemed to be noted about the console its self. After googling Wii U I finally saw a pic of the system and it looks like Nintendo not to change the look from the Wii at all other than rounded corners. With all the info they are giving about the Wii U when you think about the system do you honestly picture the Wii clone console or the handheld gaming device controller? When did a gaming system become more focused on the controller than the actual console? It seems ninetndo is a bit ashamed of the console its self since in the two photos I saw with Reggie and Iwataas well as E3 the controller is showcased while the console is trying to be hidden.wolfbmThis is because imo the WiiU console really only exists out of necessity to keep the up with the times on the hardware front and imo the WiiU controller would have ideally been another peripheral for Wii IF the Wii hadn't been so completely under-powered and outdated in the first place. A bit of an oversight and short-term thinking on Nintendo's part.
wow really? I'm no computer expert but isn't DX11 on its way to being standard? I'm sure PC, Nextbox and ps4 will use itWould you be more excited about a George Forman grill design? See for me I don't give a damn about what the controller can do...I want to know what the actual unit im buying games for can do. At this moment the Wii U appears to be more of a handheld console like the DS rather than a console like the Wii,360,and PS3. Twist my words as you see fit focusing on the actual case but tell me what confirmed specs the system (not controller) has. To my knowledge nothing is confirmed it's all speculation and yes I watched E3. With the price hovering around $400 and the release date looming soon we really have nothing to base buying it on other than a handheld system.Talk about the case as you wish but tell me what does it do!?!wolfbm
We will know what it does with plenty of time before it is released. Nintendo has already said everything will be shown at E3 next year, how much clearer can they be as to when we will know more??? Nintendo is always secretive about their work until they make a big reveal. It seemed like they really revealed at last E3 because of all the leaks that were going on so they pretty much had to show what they had as of that time. How can they tell us what the final product will be when they are not even finished. If they did there would be tons of people complaining about broken promises just because they changed their mind in the middle of designing

Wii U won't be running DX10 but a version of OpenGL which is more flexible than DX is. So DX11-like effects should be easy to reproduce on it with some clever programming (see GameCube's "TEV pipeline" which allowed for advanced pixel-shader effects on DX7-level hardware).
I think sony will, VITA will flop harder than dreamcast quote me when that happens ;)[QUOTE="backtowar"][QUOTE="WomanDog"]Nintendo will go the sega route at the end of the next gen. lild1425
I think this is a joke, but you seem serious.
I think it's a joke, but still, not gonna happen. Sony have too much money to flop. They'll advertise, market, campaign, change their strategy until the cows come home. They'll ensure their products do well no matter what. Please Log In to post.
