Wii U Officially Leaves Rival Console in the Dust

The Wii U has finally outpaced the Dreamcast!

With the Nintendo NX not far away, it's nice to see the Wii U still hitting those big numbers. Cry your heart out, Sega. Get N or Get Out!

Whos next now? GameGear and Vita?, ooo noooo, better run. Wii U coming through.

And Nintendo didnt even have to cut the price to $99 to beat them either, woot woot.

Well good for them, I was beginning to worry.

The Dreamcast sold 10.6 million in 2 years & 4 months... 8.28 million of those sales came from the West, where it was on sale for only 1 year & 6 months.

The Wii U sold 10.74 million in 2 years & 10 months... 8.14 million of those sales came from the West, where it was on sale for 2 years & 10 months.

The Wii U didn't "outpace" the Dreamcast.

Great, it took Nintendo 3 years what it took Sega to do in 2. Even the Vita is surpassing the Wii U.

At least Sega and Sony knew when to throw in the towel. Nintendo is going back for more abuse.

Dreamcast was forced to sell at $99 to get rid of 2 million + consoles it had left in inventory.

Does the SNES have Yoshi's Woolly World or Kirby and the Rainbow Curse? No, it does not.

Wii U also has SNES and wifi, it cant be stopped.

Well sure, but let's face it, the Dreamcast was an amazing console. Since the Wii U has sold more, it must mean it's an even more amazing console!

Outselling an almost a decade old dead system ( still considering it as "competition" ) and making a big deal of it is truly sad.

Yeah I'd change the word "outpace" since it has other connotations. But overall, Wii U is definitely doing better anyway (e.g Dreamcast had a massive price cut to make up a fair % of those sales).

Bravo, at least i can say it's not as bad as the Dreamcast now, might have to get one.

So when I made a thread on this, I failed to see this one after searching. -- Anyway, the fact that it took Wii U longer to surpass Dreamcast's userbase than the Dreamcast was on the market just goes to show what an absolute and comprehensive sales disaster Wii U has been for Nintendo.

Hopefully with NX they will correct everything that was wrong with the current console.

The last 2 million Dreamcast sales came with a price cut. That means 8.6 million DC sales worldwide before the price cut. But by the time it had a price cut in January 2001, the DC had only been on sale in the West for 1 year & 3 months. In comparison, the Wii U sold 6.17 million worldwide in 1 year & 5 months.

In the wake of this recent sale milestone Nintendo has officially decided to NOT release the NX.

Thats not true though, before that 2 million + $99 pricecut was another price cut of $149.

They are both colossal flops,but the DC was a better console it it's short life and would have sold more if Sega had not prematurely pulled.

Question : which console has moved the most software thus far?

$150 back in 2000 is equivalent to around $200-250 today.

But the Dreamcast had Phantasy Star Online....and that alone makes it better than the WiiU.
