I'm looking to get a birthday present for my sis, both of us are primarily PC gamers but grew up with the SNES, N64 etc. I've been living under a rock so to speak console wise so I was expecting Pikmin 3, Windwaker, Rayman etc to already be out but there are like 5 games in the Wii U section of my local game shop. I'm fairly neautral when it comes to console wars, but is the Wii U failing? Should I skip it and buy a 3DS XL instead? Cheers for the help!

I have a Wii U, and a 3DS.

If you want to buy right now, I'd say 3DS. Or try and buy both used for the price of one new, you'd be lucky.

Also, there is a level 10 rule.

Those games have been delayed. WiiU has little to offer at the moment. 3DS on the other hand has a great library so far. Much more choice in games.

Wii U of course.

You need to be level 10 to make a topic. Just realized that you weren't.

3DS XL by far.

I mean 3DS has a lot of games out for it right now you could start playing and a lot of them pretty cheap too.

WiiU you can get if you want, and there's a lot of games for you to start playing there too, but 3DS just looks a lot better at the moment.

You should give me your money (through paypal), and i'll send you something myself. I think the surprise of what i might give you is so much more worth it then just going to a boring little game shop and buying a boring little console that your sister will never touch anyway.

Depends, do you want to play games on them? Then go with 3DS. Also level 10 rule still applies, and you would get better answers in PGD anyway.

The 3ds has gotten pretty popular which is great, too bad I sold mine I bought at launch to get some pc parts. I highly recommend it, Nintendo games never drop in price and I dont buy handheld games at $40 because I would rather buy 2 used console games or buy like 4-6 games on steam.

If you want games immediately, 3DS for sure.

The Wii U will probably pick up the same way the 3DS did. This Christmas Nintendo will pull out their IPs, this'll boost sales, and then the system will get some momentum with a decent stream of games.

But at the moment, I think any system will struggle in comparison to the 3DS. It's got a solid line up and it's got a great future.

The 3DS is cheaper and has better games, but it really comes down to preference. If you prefer console games to handheld games, and you really like Nintendo games, the Wii U would be a good purchase, too. Those games you expected to already be available should be out before the end of the year.

Both have completely different functionality, if your sister is planning on playing on the go, then a PC and 3DS combo would be great. At home, a console is usually preferable, although she may prefer playing on the PC then.

I guess it depends what you sister would usually prefer to do, I think overall the 3DS will end up with a much stronger library, and you will get almost all the experiences you will find on the WiiU + more. If a TV set up is what you want then WiiU is going to be a much better buy.

If you actually want to, I don't know, play games on your newly bought system, get a 3DS. It has a massive library of great games already, with a relentless stream of games being announced everyday.

How the Wii U has better games than the 3DS is absolutely beyond me. Regardless of your opinion, the 3DS objectively has a bigger library of quality games.

Arkham City is better than any game out on the 3DS or Vita. Mass Effect 3, AC3, etc. are excellent additions. I wasn't talking about exclusives.

Well, it really comes down to preference because you are comparing 2 completely different experiences. The Wii U has NSMBU, AC3, Arkham City, Lego City, Darksiders 2, MH3 U (with 2 thumbsticks), Zombi U, and Nintendo Land, with Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker, and The Wonderful 101 all likely to be out by the end of the year. I can easily see how somebody might prefer that library to what's on the 3DS, though I prefer the 3DS myself.

But he can play them on PC anytime he wants. In fact chances are he already has played them on PC. Also, did you call AC3 good, because AC3 is the single most disappointing game of 2011. In a year when Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 released, that is saying something.

Ah, true, skipped that over by mistake. My opinion is what I feel from a blank slate perspective. And yes, I know how you feel about AC3, to the point where you forget what year it came out in

3DS XL without a doubt. It actually has a good amount of games on it, and games that can't also be seen on the 360 or PS3.

The Wii U version of MH3U is clearly the better version, even if you get a second thumbstick for the 3DS. I personally am enjoying the 3DS more right now, but I'm not sure if I will be able to say that at the end of this year (really hyped for Bayonetta 2 and Pikmikn 3), and seeing as how this is a birthday gift, if the tc's sister is more interested in the announced games that will be out in a few months, it makes sense to go ahead and get the Wii U now. Again, it all comes down to preference.

WiiU version is only better because of the Online.

otherwise both are extremely awesome and amazing. I like how I got both for the same price. The Co-Op for them both is great. Me and My Cousin play Local Multiplayer all the time since it came out.

as for needing a 2nd thumb stick...

I say it's neccesary so you could have your map on the touch screen instead of the Virtual D-Pad.

The better version of an enhanced port of a Wii U game that is only marginally better than its 3DS counterpart anyway is not really reason enough to buy the Wii U, a console with no other appealing games right now. TC would be better off wit XL, and at least waiting till after E3 to see where the Wii U is headed. Is it getting more games? A price drop? More third party support? The Wii U would be much easier to recommend when all those questions were answer, to buy it right now however is a literal waste of money.

I can definitely agree with you there on ME3. I have ME1 and 2 for my 360 but don't play them because my 360 can't connect to the Marketplace and I don't want the experience without DLC.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="funsohng"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] You can get MH3U with two thumbsticks on 3DS too, if you want it that bad. AC3, Arkham City, Darksiders 2? All multiplats that TC has probably already played on PC (or doesn't want to if he hasn't). If he wants Nintendo exclusives, the 3DS gets and is getting more console style Nintendo exclusives than Wii U is. As of this point in time, there is literally no reason to suggest a Wii U over a 3DS to someone, unless that person absolutely hates handhelds, or already has a 3DS.

I remember you telling me how awesome AC3 was at first. So I bought it. F*ck you.

You would have bought it anyway.

Yeah, but on the system I wanted it for at a cheaper price.

Well, it's a birthday gift, and having to wait several months for information before getting your birthday present would kind of suck. If the tc's sister is asking for the Wii U, that is what I would get. If he's just looking for a console he thinks she would like, I would go with the 3DS because it has the better library today and costs a whole lot less.

eh, most of the DLC is just end game stuff.

Though I can understand wanting The Arrival.

The Beginning of 3 just wouldn't make much sense.

Oh and Kasumi too, I know she's extra, but characters like her need to be taken before the end quest.

[QUOTE="LegatoSkyheart"]

[QUOTE="Blabadon"]Arkham City is better than any game out on the 3DS or Vita. Mass Effect 3, AC3, etc. are excellent additions. I wasn't talking about exclusives.Blabadon

Mass Effect 3 for the WiiU is by far the weakest of the bunch.

Purely because there's no Part 1 or Part 2.

Had the game been Mass Effect 2 or Mass Effect Trilogy (it would have been better for EA honestly) then I would say it's the better than anything the 3DS has even, Fire Emblem.

But, no, Mass Effect 3 by itself is pretty awful. It's only great 90% of the time because of the other 2 games.

Arkham City is a pretty darn good game. Probably the best game on the WiiU at the moment, but it's too high of price and everyone has pretty much played it.

3DS has a better future at the moment.

There is one DLC worth playing in ME1 and ME2, and that is Shadow Broker. And even that isn't really all that important to the story. Skip them.

Arrival is so bad that it is better for you to do yourself a favour and not play that crap and just watch the story on youtube.

Shadow Broker is the best of the bunch, but Arrival is pretty crucial to the story.

Arrival is actually the DLC that made me hate the Ending of 3 so much considering it made me believe 3 was going to be Epic.

Oh 3's DLC? All extra honestly. Not too important. though I haven't bought any DLC for 3 yet, BUT THE PROTHEAN IS WAY TOO IMPORTANT! WHY IS HE DLC IS BEYOND ME!

Jarvis should be part of the whole game and shouldn't be charged for $5 for everyone who didn't get the Collector's Edition.

I thought Shadow Broker, Arrival, Levithan, Citadel, etc. all added extra content. Agreed FF, it's annoying. That's why I was planning on gamesharing the series on the PS3.

Seeing how ME3's story pretty much makes everything you did before insignificant, especially Arrival, who the f*ck cares. Shepard commits genocide of 500000+ 6-eyed aliens and no one cares because REAPERSOMG f*ck ME3's story.
