Wii U Daily and Destructoid are reporting that a Japanese developer who is porting a game from the PS3 to the Wii U has given them information on the Wii U's hardware specs

They are as follows

-Quad Core CPU @ 3Ghz

-Two separate dev kits with 768MB RAM and one with 1GB RAM, split between the CPU and GPU

I'm trying to post the link, but GS won't let me

Go to wiiudaily dot com and it will be on the front page, as well as on Destructoid too

Thoughts?

My take. This is the only place you're going to get next gen Nintendo IPs, and it is nonetheless a huge step up from the Wii. It would peg it at roughly 50% more powerful than current consoles if this ends up being true. I'm happy with that, and I know a lot of people won't be. However, there is always the chance that MS and Sony don't exactly blow the lid off their next gen consoles either.

I'd be satisfied if this is true, especially coz it leans itself towards a $299 price point.

That's... pathetic actually. Memory is F'ing cheap now and 768 MB/1 GB?! WTF. Vita nearly has that much memory for pity sakes.

The thing that annoys me is....
WHY DO THEY KEEP PUTTING AS LESS RAM AS POSSIBLE....
It's not like it uber expensive these days.
I was expecting 2Gb at least.

Look at what happens to games like Crysis. It's a stupid preventable hardware limitation.
And here we go with devs cutting corners in the next few years again!!!!

Hmmm...dissapointed with the amount of ram but those specs do go along with the 50 percent more powerful than the PS3 statement made earlier in the year. Sheep should be happy though.

That nextbox rumor with the hexacore and 2 gigs of ram crush this.

You had a 3Ghz quad core 7 years ago? Nice going. And it still doesn't really meany anything, is it i5 level or is it Intel Quad level, is it better, is it worse, who knows, I'd hope it's i5 level.

That's disappointing yet expected.

It's sad that you have to hope Sony and Microsoft put out gimp consoles.

Why would plastic buttons and a small 854x480 screen cost that much?

You're aware there are portable DVD players sold at massive profits for $50 everyday with a DVD drive and nearly the same resolution screens right?

The controller will be $60 and no more. This is Nintendo.

It's supposed to be powerPC architecture on the CPU.

I'm thinking that the early guesses were right. This is equivalent to a quad core of 3 CPu generations ago, and a very low end GPU.

Still much more powerful than the Wii, a bit more powerful than the current consoles.

"Quad Core CPU @ 3Ghz"

Useful! So it's somewhere between a 360 with an extra core and an i5-2x00; no performance gap there.

I dont really know all that much about power other than what i see with my eyes, ps3 and 360 are equals and wii is waaay behind. That said, im buyer beware on nintendo because i dont trust yheyll nurture a 3rd party lineup of worth when push comes to shove... i also dont see them matching a service like xbl so as far as im concerned they could release the friggin hubble space telescope of consoles and im still not jumping in for a while after launch.

Its a closed console platform. Smaller amounts of RAM would perform well I would think, better than you may think. Also, you've got to consider they are buying in bulk, they likely need each part to cost less than $5. I mean, they will be potentially buying 50 million RAM chips over the course of the console's life.

You do realise that is $750 million over 50 million units manufactured right? For that $15 RAM chip. I'm not saying I don't want 2GB ram either, but there is much more than goes into this.

The Hz does really mean anything unless we know the processor type. AMD and Intel that may be a lot, but for many other processors it isn't. For instance the 360's CPU is technically a 3 core processor running at 3.2 Ghz, doesn't make it perform any where near an AMD or Intel quad at 3 Ghz for many things.

Given memory prices now, 2GB is bare minimum. I can get that, retail, for 15 bucks. If that can't get at least that, that's really really pathetic.

In 2005, most new PCs were getting 1Gb of ram and gaming cards had 256mb(like a 7800gt), so 1,25total,

with the High-End going for 2gb of system ram and GPUs started to have 512Mb(like some 7800GTX, if I remember correctly), so 2,5Gb total.

X360/PS3 went for 512Mb total and right now, it's a limitation for certain games. It's should have been probably 1Gb.

Right now, Average PCs have 4Gb ram, and 1Gb Vram, for a total of 5Gb

High-End usually go for 8Gb ram and 2 Gb Vram, for a total of 10Gb

If we compare 2005 to now, and if the memory increase keeps going the same way it did for the past 6 years

I say all next-gen consoles should have 4-6Gb of ram to not suck in a few years.

I agree. There is no way that Wii pad thing is going to cost the a couple dollars more than the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo. It's going to be expensive and we already got a sign of that at E3.

It's just a insignificant rumour like a dozen or more so i've read a couple of months ago, probably fake aswell, i doubt they'll put less than 2 gigs of memory, and my assumption is just as good as this rumour anyway..

So it's got about 2 gigs of total RAM? Sounds fine to me. Together with the modified R700 that should be enough for Crysis on very high settings. They have to keep the pricepoint low though.

No the rumor is that they are testing two dev kits. One with 768 MB of ram and the other one has 1 gig. They are not combined.

IT'S TERRIBLE!

PS4 AND XBOX 720 are going to be BETTER! It'll have like 2 GB of Ram! and will have Better Graphics that would DESTROY WiiU's Last Gen Technology! Oh man The PS4 and the Xbox 720 are going to be SO AMAZING that it will FORCE Nintendo to go BANKRUPT and then they'll HAVE TO put their Games on the SUPERIOR SYSTEMS and then I can FINALLY play a REAL MARIO on a REAL SYSTEM and NOT KIDDIE GARBAGE!

[/sarcasm]

for real though, that sounds pretty good, I just want to know when the system will be out or if the Controller is actually going to work.

HaloinventedFPS

The original Xbox had 64mb of Ram yet it still churned out Ninja Gaiden.

Console specs dont equate verbatum to PC specs...>.>

[QUOTE="chikenfriedrice"]

the 299 price tag you speak of is just for the controller

bonesawisready5

Why would plastic buttons and a small 854x480 screen cost that much?

You're aware there are portable DVD players sold at massive profits for $50 everyday with a DVD drive and nearly the same resolution screens right?

The controller will be $60 and no more. This is Nintendo.

Oh yeah, this is Nintendo, the company that charged $250 for a slim-GC (hardware wise the Wii is essentially an OCd GC with shrunk hardware), while the GC was retailing for a $100 at the time. This is the same Nintendo that charged $250 for a 3DS even if the thing was worth nowhere near that. Anyway point being, if Nintendo thinks it can get away with it, they will charge a high price for the WiiPad. As for the specs, way too vague to be able to tell anything. A Quad Core 3.0Ghz means nothing, considering it could be something as powerful as a an Athlon X4 (the crappy ones), or as strong as a Core i7. As for that Ram, pathetic. When ram costs so cheap, there is no exuse for them to put in less than 2GBs, preferably 4GBs.

I don't even think the specs are finalized. Plus I never trust leaks, I'll wait till E3.

I think it isn't reliable, I swear I read somewhere that the actual specs will be revealed in the Next E3 until then they're still working on the Wii-U
