Wii vs. PS2 - The great Debate

So everyone argues about the Hardcore systems, the PS3 and the 360.

But what about the casual systems? Which one is better? The Wii or the PS2?

PS2 had a fantastic library.

Umm, I disagree that PS2 could be considered a casual system. Although, I think it is much, much better than the Wii.deepdreamer256

PS2 appealed the most to the expanded audience last generation, thats why it sold as well as it did. It didn't sell 120 Million units to the core audience.

It was a casual system. That doesn't mean it didn't have good software for the core gamer, because, it had a lot of good software.

But question is - why would you get PS2 to play outdated games ? (unless you miss them and want to play them afterall)

I wanted to buy ps2 because of some titles i didnt play but well i still wait for its price to drop so i can buy it from my launch money lol

Plus the Wii gets Nintendo's exclusives which will never go on PS2.

Newer, different playing style, online that's easy for a casual to use, there are quite a few other reasons to be honest, like that most of the actual casual games on the PS2 are pheripheral based, you'd probably end up spending as much if not more if you were to buy a new PS2, Buzz controllers, Guitar Hero controller and Singstar microphones. Plus Wii being newer and still advertised helps casuals choose games, if you go into a shop and see a game that looked fun on tv then they'll get it. They won't go on Gamespot, check PS2 top rated section or Wii top rated section, they go in and get a game that looks fun. The way shops display PS2 games doesn't help out here either, my local games shops have the PS2 games all lined ip with only the names showing. Not likely you'd see a games name and go wow that sounds like a good game!

Well, considering the Wii still has a lot of life left in it, we can't make a fair comparison between the two.

In terms of casualness, we have to go with the PS2 right now. However, but the end of the Wii's lifecycle, we'll have a better idea which one had the better games for casuals.

Not only is the PS2 better than the Wii...

it's better than the other 2 current gen systems.

But

SNES > PS2

So therefore

SNES > All

not counting hanhelds and PC

In 5 years time I will be too busy playing Wii Weightlifting and Mario Shopping Adventures to have a debate on this topic.

Sold my PS2. Only a few really worthwhile games (gta, mgs). The wii is in a whole nother ballpark. Motion controls + Galaxy level graphics +Virtual Console.

Not to say ps2 wasn't a good system for it's time but it's not a current gen system in any way.

The PS2 lacks two great genres which IMO keeps it from being the best. That is the WRPG and FPS genre.AHUGECAT

Knowing that the PS2 can read PS1 games(which also had some great SNES titles) makes it the best console to ever come out IMO.

3D0 will kick the **** out of PS3. Night Trap, Space Pirates, Crime Patrol, Snow Job. The only thing that has a chance is the PCFX with Queen of Queens.

PS2 not only beats wii, but the other two as well. It's not even close hereSonick54

The PS3 has backward compatibility, and it does work quite well in spite of all the bad rep it gets (I only have one game that freezes occasionally.)
