Simply because all the major Devs that make high end games would be very limited with the Wii hardware. I mean lol, just imagine Epic trying to make a game for the Wii. Even if it had the install base of the PS2, a lot of Major 3rd party Devs still couldnt make great games for the wii because the hardware is just not powerful enough. Games like Ghost recon, splinter cell and lost planet could not be done on the wii. Bottom line is just because the wii will have a huge install base doesnt mean they will get major 3rd party dev support. Devs also take into consideration the hardware. Even if ubi soft or capcom makes games for the wii, they definitly wouldnt be as good as ghost recon or lost planet Ahammer80And alot of devs can't design on the PS3 because its too expensive. Wouldn't be as good, why is that? I am sorry but your opinion isn't fact, sir. Lost Planet is one of my favorite games, yet I am excited for games like No More Heroes.
if the reason for your topic is the power of the Wii, why are devs taking the time to create original titles for it? even last gen why did they take the time to create epic games if the hardware was so bad??
yep some thrid parties are developing stuff for wii, but of what quality?Gears360I dunno, No More Heroes, Opoona, Dewy's Adventure, and Resident Evil would come down to personal preference, but seems pretty solid to me.
The programmers and artists working for the major developers have already spent alot of time (and therefore money) on making themselves ready for real next-gen hardware. It would be a huge waste of money to suddenly tell them all "oh sorry, you have to work on the Wii and make games with last-gen graphics and assets."Â
And for people saying that lots of third-parties are interested in making titles for Wii...I have yet to see any big third-party games announced.  Â

Sorry, but you're absolutely wrong.
Bigger install base = more game developers, without question.
The DS isn't a powerful system and yet... it has more developers than the PSP.
I'm glad I could clear that up for you.

Devs are limited with the PS3 and 360 cos they dont bring anything knew to the table. it's more large and pretty but ends there but with the way it has huuge potential and 3rd party devs are starting to see it (play Godfather and you wont be able to play it on another console).
and ? nintendo survived last gen solely on first party for a worse.. way worse system... so your point is ?Virus214good point
[QUOTE="Ultimate_Peon"]Out of curiousity, what was the last "big" game announced for any of the consoles?pundogDMC 4 for 360? Eh, I was thinking more of a new game being announced rather than one already known going multiplatform.
And also, companies go where the money is.Hoffgod
Seriously, that is all that needs to be said.
It's ridiculous to claim that devs will ignore the Wii's massive userbase.
EDIT: The only question is will the devs be lazy like Ubisoft and go for the quick cash or will they try to develop high quality titles?Â
Developers don't get to choose what hardware games get published on. Publishers do. If Wii has the biggest install base and publishers can make the most profit from Wii games, Wii will get the most software support. IyetharWow, I'm amazed that someone here understands the constraints that publishers put on devs.. Plus, devs. really need to go where all the money is anyway because they only see a fraction of the profit that comes froma project.

Then you start getting into market forces. If lots of developers start making Wii games the competition will drive at least some to up their game as they strive against each other for more sales. Then you'll always get some who will make a game on one (or both) of the other consoles to avoid all the competition present on the highest selling system. And of course then there's other considerations. Please Log In to post.
