If the Wii did not have motion sensing and remained as it is... that would be the floppiest flop that ever flopped. But that's not how it is, so what's the point?

what, does the wii come with black boxes to cover your junk when you move around?
so they got cops technology? wow, thats even better than the ps3

okay... take the bluray off of ps3... you have an inferior 360
take the xbox live off of xbox... you have a downgraded pc...

I dont get this argument   The the PS3 and 360 hardware run laps around the wii...I think he is asking do people consider the wii next gen because of the controller.

The TC ir right my friend and you are wrong.

It's obvious you missed the latest news.

Wii has motion Censoring among other features. It censors inaproppiate moves that could insult the game or people that sit next to you.

Motion Censoring is the real new-gen feature of the Wii.

The only thing that needs to be added is real-time-BS-censors. Only then we can say Wii is a real next-gen console.

The Wii has improved upon the gamecube in every aspect.. Just not as much as it could of been, therefore it's next gen. The controller makes it truly next gen though, or I prefer new gen.

And what I'm asking is would the 360 be considered next-gen without Xbox Live? And would the PS3 be considered next-gen if it didn't have better graphics? I'd say no to both.

Well first it is after the gamecube making it in the 7th gen secondly it more powerful than the game cube, it has extra RAM, a faster bus speed (the biggest let down of the GC all the power and no flow), flash memory, all its chips are now faster than the GC's, Wifi chip, USB ports, supports 16:9 and 480p, SD expansion slot and self loading disk drive which work vertical and horizontal and excepts both GC and DVD9 disks If you stil belive with out motion sensing its a gamecube you either cant understand tech or have been lied to

If you took away graphics from the 360 and PS3, would they be current gen? No.

If you took away XBL and PSO, would PS3 and 360 be current gen? Somewhat.

Each system has something to make it current gen; take that away, and you're left with a last gen system.

What's your point?

most of you are living in the past! the PS3, XBOX360 and the Wii are all "CURRENT" gen.  The PS2, xbox, and gamecube were "last" gen.  The only "NEXT" gen systems are the PS4, the next xbox, and the next nintendo.  We are living in the current generation, the term generation refers to a time period, so yes, by that definition, the Wii is current gen (just like ps3 and x360).  Stop refering to the ps3 and x360 as "next" gen systems because they arent!

It is next gen because it is the system that came after the Gamecube. That is what makes it next gen. Not what hardware is in it.

if! anyway if you got a 360 for the same price I am sure it would have less powerful hardware. But yeah, Wii without wiimote is not a huge step up from last gen.

Good games make you forget about your controller. Of course the controller is vital...it has to work. My 360 controller works. If it works for Wii games, that's great too. But I didn't buy a 360 for its controller, and I'm not going to buy a Wii for its controller.

I have to disagree ...If that was the case  this would have been next gen
I see the wii like the PSX a more improved cube, not necessarily next gen but slightly improved upon.  A great machine the wii is....But next gen Implies technology that has not been seen before or years ahead of it's predecessor.  Some argue the wii is powerglove 2.0.  To say the wii is next gen puts it neck and neck with the PS3 and the 360 and that clearly is not the case.  Im not bashing the wii I have fun with it but Next gen get thrown around here way too much.

could we honestly play gears with an atari paddle
it may not be exactly "better" but maybe some people would like the intuivite ability to do say whatever you could do in tennis without using any buttons
some people buy consoles purely on potenital... say for multimedia.. potenital of blockbuster games... maybe some want the potenital to interact more with less buttons to remember but the same amount of depth

Well IMO the 360 controller evolved just fine for me. It had wireless out of the box, plug and play charge abilities. the guide button (which I love) and better ergonomics and button placement and bluetooth capabilities. I understand what you are saying, but I just think its foolish for some people to say, well Wiimote is BETTER than the other remotes because it substitutes motion sensing for buttons. To some people, that's worse, but if it works for you, it works for you. It doesn't work for me. I just want to concentrate on the actual gaming experience without being hindered by the controller. If the system does that, then I'm good.

Do you even know how the powerglove worked???

Since when are graphics the sole determination of whether something is 'next gen' or not? Is that it? Only if the graphics are 'uber' greater than the previous system can a system be called 'next gen'? That's pretty narrow-minded, no?

The Wii is 'next gen' and it is 'neck and neck' with the PS3 and 360 - just not in the graphics category to which you seem to fixate.

The GCN played mini-discs - Wii plays DVD
The GCN did not have an online network at all - Wii already has a pretty nice dashboard when you start up
The GCN certainly did not have the VC - the Wii does
GCN 485Mhz - Wii = 729Mhz CPU
GCN 162Mhz - Wii = 243Mhz GPU
GCN 40mb - Wii = 88mb memory

Oh - and there is this little thing called 'motion sensing' that neither the GCN (nor any previous system) had...    ...you're right, how could I be so blind to the fact that the Wii isn't 'next gen' when compared to the GCN.

i agree with every thing your saying imo 360 and ps3 pads are perfect for me . after a long day of being at the gym i want to lay down and play my games with out having to move my arms to make a door open when i could of just pressed A 2 do the same thing

What Else should I consider Audio- Oh the wii does not have Optical input sorry

Online service--Sorry I forget you can get the weather in thailand if needed or Zimbabwe:roll:

Movie Viewing-- Lets pop in some HDdvd or maybe Bluray Oh Sorry no can do

Lets play for a few days without recharging--OOps forgot to run to Radioshack and get the AAs

OK Ok Lets play some Hidef gaming on my new Plasma-- Wheres the 720p/1080i Oh graphics dont matter I'll stick with 420p

Since it is neck and neck withe PS3/360- Lets save some mp3s on the HD--Oh Im sorry wii uses flash memory

I feel like downloading a movie on my wii--Damn I forgot no HD/ No movie downloading service---but the wii is neck and neck with the PS3/360---

Need I continue....Please the wii is no where near the PS3/360...Nintendo never claim that, yet you silly sheeps are!?
The wii is fun but don't come out your mouth making it more than it is. It's a fun machine but the PS3/360 run laps around the wii feature for feature.

So true.

I play games, not controllers.

The interface you use to play games is vital... you couldn't play gears with a 2600 controler, could you?

Good games make you forget about your controller. Of course the controller is vital...it has to work. My 360 controller works. If it works for Wii games, that's great too. But I didn't buy a 360 for its controller, and I'm not going to buy a Wii for its controller.

Fair enough, but I think we're going to see software emerge that really uses the wiimote to accomplish that which isn't done / would be clumsily done on a traditional dual-analog. Trauma Center is a good example for that. It just wouldn't translate well.
I think that statement makes wii, along with 360 and ps3, next-gen. "Some games on (insert system here) just wouldn't translate well to (insert previous system here)."

When that software comes, I'll consider it. But so far the software on the Wii IMO is not better than the software on the 360 so that's whats occupying my time and money. I'm not saying there isn't potential, but the main games I'm seeing hyped are the games that always get hyped and have been good with or without the Wiimote (Mario, Zelda, SSBB, Metroid Prime) We'll see, I guess.

The Wii WITH the motion censoring is still not next gen. It's "different gen". Because it's just a completely different gaming experience than the 360 or PS3. I don't think it should be grouped with them, nor should it be grouped with the PS2, xbox, GC. It's just different.

The correct term is "new gen" Like evolution the species is splitting off and evolving into a superior species while the competition stays the same and destroys each other. Survival of the fittest; and theres nothing "fit" about sitting there like a fat mindless consumer staring at the screen pushing buttons....so pathetic.

but the evolution of the controller also means something
could we honestly play gears with an atari paddle
it may not be exactly "better" but maybe some people would like the intuivite ability to do say whatever you could do in tennis without using any buttons
some people buy consoles purely on potenital... say for multimedia.. potenital of blockbuster games... maybe some want the potenital to interact more with less buttons to remember but the same amount of depth

If the system does that, then I'm good.

i agree with every thing your saying imo 360 and ps3 pads are perfect for me . after a long day of being at the gym i want to lay down and play my games with out having to move my arms to make a door open when i could of just pressed A 2 do the same thing

your arm doesnt move
your wrist does... its the slightest possible movement you can do...
and really.. i can never understand the "i play games the relax" mantra.. unless its sim games
most games i play are intense, mind challenging, eye watering and anything but relaxing
for myself, i can enjoy both.. but i love when controls are intuitive and don't need much explaining because things like my mom beating us all in bowling can happen
the only thing that hinders my controls are crappy devs... just like they screw up controls in every other normal game.. not every games controls fine so theyre not all going to for a brand new combination of technology
