I dont think it can ever be beat, there were alot less review sites back then to get the average from, there will always be some sites that rate a over all high rated game low, bringing down the average.
... you do know a review score is someone elses opinion, right? So basically your saying other peoples opinion> your opinion.dracolich55So what? Thats not the point of the thread. Read
... you do know a review score is someone elses opinion, right? So basically your saying other peoples opinion> your opinion.dracolich55Not what he's saying at all. OnT: I agree with TC's point about many more review sites and I think the competition is harder. You need to be very lucky with timing to avhieve something like that.
The more reviews something has, the more likely it is to deviate from 0 or 100. It's basically impossible for anything with more than a handful of reviews to have a 100. GTA4 having a 98 with almost 90 reviews is actually much more impressive than OoT having a 99 with only 22 reviews.
Yes. There was another website (forgot name) that counted like 10 more reviews than metacritic/gamerankings and OOT had 94-95 average. Plenty of games have twice the amount of reviews and a higher average.
Nostalgia, its REAL and EFFECTS SCORES. Deal with it.

What's that got to do with it? The game got those scores when it came out.
And Zelda OOT has 97% over at GR with around 30 reviews correct? What was the name of that other site, where its at 95 or 94 and has 35-40 reviews or something.. In other words, the more the reviews, the lower the score. The more reviews something has, the more likely it is to deviate from 0 or 100. Yeah just watch how films on rottentomatoes start at incredibly high percentages but the more reviews that come in the lower it gets. That's not to say OoT doesn't deserve it's status as greatest game ever but either way a dumb number really shouldn't mean as much as it does to people on the internet (look at Avatar .... *shudders*). Really it's about your own opinion of the game?
For me it's a terrific title to have been able to age so gracefully but it's really hard for me to say it's my favourite game or even in my top 5 because I did complete that game long after it's original release. So many games have been able to do what Ocarina did in a overall better way in so many components that looking at Ocarina from a contemporary stand point isn't all that impressive compared to modern games which do so many things similarly or have further improved on aspects of Ocarina of Time.
Ocarina of Time to me is a game that ultimately is still a product of it's time which is not a bad thing but I doubt the game will resonate with me as much as it does with a lot of gamers who've also completed it.
The only thing that could be OOT at this stage is a remake of an outstanding game that doesn't get a lot of reviews.
Relevant example: Metal Gear Solid 4: Substance comes out with trophies, VR missions 3D/Move support and all MP DLC + brand new maps, modes and chracters for the online and only IGN, Gamespot, GamePro Famitsu and lets say... 10 other review sites score that gave it a 10 or close to perfect score,
Then it could get a metacritic score of 100 og GR score of 99%
I agree with this, the average of GTA4 being 98 with about 4 times more the reviews is way more impressive. Shouls I be impressed with the MC score of Out of the Park Baseball that has a 96 metascore with only 5 reviews? The more reviews something has, the more likely it is to deviate from 0 or 100. Many games would IF the game was released today.
Only 22 scores, many scores from official Nintendo magazines...
You can't beat the best game every madeFunconsoleMajora's Mask did. And Skyward Sword probably will too. But the reviews don't/won't reflect their greatness.
You can't beat the best game every madeFunconsoleIt boils down to opinion, but I agree with this statement :)
You can't beat the best game every madeFunconsoleI was shocked to see hardly anyone thought the fact that the game was excellent had much to do with its score. It's like any game could get that score. No way. And it had less reviews, but it was also in a time that we didn't have super crazy budgets with reviewer-resorts and mass exclusivity whorage.
... you do know a review score is someone elses opinion, right? So basically your saying other peoples opinion> your opinion.dracolich55No, that metacritic score represents the opinions of many, many critics who actually know what they are talking about. And when 99% of informed people say the same thing, it doesn't really matter what the other 1% thinks.
I think something will come along, GTA4 was filled with problems and its a 98!
In the coming months, I wouldn't be surprised if Batman scored that well since (especially judging by the OPM Australia review) it hit all the right notes. It seems as polished as Uncharted 2 with the style of the original in an open GTA style world. That is asking to be a revolution!
The biggest game, like Skyrim, are going to loose their 10s to some small nitpicks that just add up. For a game to beat OoT in scores, its going to need to be flawless at every corner, its going to need to be big, its going to need to be revolutionary.
The TC wasn't talking about the 3DS version...Nostalgia, its REAL and EFFECTS SCORES. Deal with it.

Will a game ever get a 100/100 basically? Not a chance. Any game that has 20+ reviewers won't get perfect 10's everywhere. Especially in this day and age.
Lexter45
Especially if you compare a 20review game like OOT with a 80 around like SMG... You have 60 more possibilities for something that WONT be a 10 and there youll see your average drop , and thats why i dont think OOT as the best game , score wise , because its not fair for the others on top 10 who have 50-60 even 90 reviews
It only got 22 reviews. Uncharted 2 for example has a little over 100 reviews and maintains a score of 96. That is more impressive than OoT's socre IMO
It only got 22 reviews because that is all that there was at the time. Let's not undermine Ocarina of Time's achievement here.It only got 22 reviews. Uncharted 2 for example has a little over 100 reviews and maintains a score of 96. That is more impressive than OoT's socre IMO

[QUOTE="Mattizzle815"]It only got 22 reviews because that is all that there was at the time. Let's not undermine Ocarina of Time's achievement here. Thats true, thats like saying babe ruth played against Players who werent on steroids therefore he wasnt as good. Thats bs since babe ruth played in less games, bigger ballparks, and softer balls and he STILL managed to have more home runs than the entire league. You cant compare different era's. If 22 reviews is all they had back in '98 then thats ALL the rwviews they had at the time. If theres 90 reviewers today then thats ALL they have today. 100% is still 100% no matter which way you look at it.It only got 22 reviews. I say lets undermine OoTs achievement because it is pretty clear to me and the rest on the non-nintendo world that a game with 100 reviews getting a score of 96 is more impressive compared to 22 reviews. It only got 22 reviews. Majora's mask should be a higher scoring game. It's better than Ocarina in every way except for the music.
