I ask this because every since Sony discovered they can make more money re-selling people the same games, i'm not so sure the other two won't jump on board anymore.

When I look at the PS3, I just can't help but wish Sony really had left in the BC with PS2 games as a feature; There are quite a few PS2 games I would absolutely love to play again(including many that I've missed) and that would've been a huge selling point for me at the current price tag it has now.

Also, just how important is Backwards Compatibility to you guys? I personally think it matters lots and while it's not the be all and end all -- I am really hoping BC doesn't end up a downplayed feature in the upcoming next gen consoles overall.

If nothing else I hope that anything I bought on my acount on XBL is transfered and playable on a new system. Otherwise I think I am just going back to PC full time.

I wish for BC to come back. Im tired of bringing my PS2 and my PS3 to my friends house just to play 1 game on the PS2.

I love BC I play it a lot. I don't think it will be dead maybe for Sony but Project Cafe is suppose to be Backwards Compatible with the Wii and GCN.

Same here. It would be ridiculous if that wasn't the case. I wouldn't even buy the next Xbox.

Unless a console is 100% backwards compatible with at least this gen's games, I won't buy it. Period. I'm sick of not being able to play half my Xbox games on my 360. And don't even get me started on the PS3 removing it.

Wii 2 will have full BC. This I know for a fact. I'm assuming that the next MS console will have full BC, including the ability to use your DLC from this gen. I certainly could be wrong about this but it would seem like a serious consumer betrayal if MS didn't provide this service. I assume the same for Sony.

The PS3 had full BC, that's when I bought mine. If it was important to you, you could have bought one.;

BC is very important to me.

Nintendo seem to be the only company doing BC properly. Good thing to, the morning of the day I got my Wii, my Gamecube stop reading discs properly, the hundreds upon hundreds of hours of Smash bros melee with my mates put the little Cube to good use in its prime :P

I still want to be able to play my PS3 games when they stop making it. Games aren't disposable to me, I want to know I could that if my PS3 died, that I could play them on a current console. Same goes for my 360 games, but because of the cell, I think there's a larger chance Sony won't have BC. If consoles stop having BC, then I'm going to PC.

It is rumored that Project Cafe will have Wii AND GC BC! I bet at the very least it has Wii BC. Who knows about the other two. I am not going to say the Wii is amazing for just about any technical achievement, but Nintendo certainly made it the most reliable, good looking, and BC machine, so I will give them that.

Never cared about backward compatibility. During this whole gen the only last gen games i tried is Halo:CE, Halo 2 and KOTOR 1. I hope next gen has no BC but costs a little less.

If it is Wii BC wouldn't it automatically be GC too? Doesn't the Wii use the exact same GPU and CPU overclocked with more ram and added Shaders?

Nintendo will most likely have backwards comp. in their new console. It is a great feature the Wii's hardware isn't anything special and is pretty cheap just to put it inside the Cafe. Gamecube backwards comp? Is unknown. They could add the GC hardware inside the cafe as well. Microsoft will prob. use software emulation to be backwards comp. with the 360, if they want and choose the right hardware to pack in. Sony will MOST LIKELY NOT have backwards comp. with the PS3 because of the sole reason that Sony always likes putting some special custom hardware in their consoles and that hardware is expensive.

I think that would be my first priority. I have like around 30 360 games and 15 ps3 games, and I dont want to have 4 consoles stacking up on each other. If BC is gone, well I quit.

Lack of backwards compatibility is one problem.

But another problem is an inability to buy old games. Some games are simply out of print. It would be nice if console makers would offer BC and publishers offer old games via PSN or Xbox Live.

It really shouldn't be too difficult for MS to have 360 BC through hardware emulation at all, because they & Nintendo are sticking with Ati/AMD for their graphics card for next gen. The reason why there wasn't hardware emulation for original Xbox games on the 360 was because of the video card issue, etc., with Nvidia.

Now that you mention it, I probably would settle for re-releases of old games on PSN/XBL if they would actively try to obtain as many as possible.

But the whole re-release to a disc thing not only seems like it's taking forever -- but it also feels so unnecessary. It's probably making things lots more difficult than it needs to be despite making them more money I guess.

The fact Sony removed BC from the newer PS3 models for PS2 games to work must mean something, but I'm still hoping they can find a way for PS4 seeing how the value of PS2 games will be.

No you are incorrect. It's an oc'd gamecube for the most part.

Also I doubt next gen systems will have BC, unless they are severely stronger, or extremely similar.

Its kind of a deal breaking feature, especily near the begining of a consoles life, when games for it are scarce. I'm mostly playing DS games on my 3DS. Those still complaining about the PS2 compatibility being taken out should get themselves a PS2. you can get a full package for what, $50? I'm lucky enough to have a PS2 enabled PS3...and I never use it that feature! mostly because I never had a PS2 collection and there is more than enough to play on current gen consoles

I'm not going to keep old consoles around to cluter things up once a new gen starts,so without backward compatibility I might as well just buy all mymultiplats from Steam. Excluding backward compatibility is just going to drive people to digital distribution faster. Problem is, the console manufacturers are milking the whole situation pretty bad. XBL may offer digital copies of Xbox games but why should I have to pay for a game I already have a hard copy of? And Sony is jumping on this HD remake train which is a huge joke. We're supposed to buy games we may already own older versions ofjust so in a few years we won't be able to play them for the second time (unless we keep obsolete hardware lying around) Take notes from Beyond Good & Evil HD and at the very least make HD remakes available for digital distribution so we'll have them for years to come. Here's hoping the Halo: CE remake takes this path.

No, Sony will and SHOULD put BC in their next PS. I think they have learned their lesson because significantly more people would have consider purchasing ps3. It's a good chance they will put it in their next ps, because most likely it's going to be the same as ps3 but with several more cells in it (and possibly support Blu-ray). Because they have invested so much in Blu-Ray and DD could take over, means they need to make their money's worth. So, a good chance to support Blu-ray as well. They said a few years back that they're planning this (about the cells). So, it's a very good chance that it will happen imho.

I surely hope BC will stick around.

They can still have BC and sell you the game in the psn or wtv, if there is no BC next gen for MS or Sony not only will i skip the first years of the new console but i'll also won't consider past affairs. I still like Sony the most but i'll reevaluate if there is no BC.
