Let's assume microsoft wins next gen and Sony and Nintendo start charging for their online services. Do you think companies like Activision and EA will start charging to play on their multiplayer games? After all, microsoft taught the other companies that you can get away with charging to play on an inferior, laggy P2P service by calling it superior to your competitor's.

You have to be level 10 to create a thread in System Wars.

--- just above the Topic title ---

Rules are simple:
- Read theTerms of Useagreement and System Wars Survival Guide.
- Must be Level 10 or higher to create topics.
- Keep your discussions around what belongs here: platforms, games, developers, publishers, and stats.
- Don't quote more than one image in your post.
- Do NOT post or bump extremely abusive discussions (adult material/illegal activities/illegal advertising/etc).

I think you'd see pushback then - consumers will take nickel-and-diming, but only so much. Better to stick to DLC, where there's at least a perception of value.

I seriously doubt that. If you can get away with charging for P2P, you can get away with anything.

if they cared wouldn't the site simply prohibit a less than lvl 10 user from posting? Not in the getting modded if you do sense but programmed so if they tried it takes them to a page that says "you're not a high enough lvl to create topics" and such

And I think it might depend on the corporation. In console industry, Microsoft has a cult-like following like Apple does in the PC industry. You can tell by the way they call mediocre games like shotguns of bore and gaylo the 2nd coming of Christ and buy them in droves. Microsoft might be able to get away with it and so might Activision and maybe EA. I guess it depends on the company.

From your OP I was gonna take your side but now you're starting to appear as just a rabid Microsoft hateboy.

Yeah, that pretty much killed off any sense of "let this one slide" that I had.

If you're a true gamer, you should hate microsoft for what they've done and what they're going to inspire in future generations. Other companies aren't turning a blind-eye to microsoft's model. They WILL follow it if microsoft wins next-gen. Prepare to buy far fewer games next gen as you're going to have to pay for LIVE fees AND the multiplayer fees of each game you buy.

I don't hate any organized evil entity be religion, corporation, or government. I'm very upset with the direction video games are being taken business wise. I knew DLC was going to be a dreaded addiction way back before it was even starting to be abused. I will not however, hate entities from doing what it is their nature to do. The source of my hatred goes directly to the majority of gamers, especially the informed gamers on websites like this one, that not only buy into these practices, but defend them as well. The source of life and power for these corporations are the people willingly supporting them.

Yes, you're right. I shouldn't hate microsoft. If they can make a buck by ripping off technologically-impaired people by lying that P2P is better than dedicated servers and charge you $60 for a service that costs microsoft next to nothing, then power to them. What I should really hate are the xbox 360 fan boys who aren't really gamers but corporate dicksuckers.

It's funny how so much discussion about his level occurred here but no one bothered to report the topic. That's why this rule isn't getting enforced.

Maybe because I'm asking a valid, non-troll question? Let me guess, you're a 360 fanboy who wants to silence me so others of your kind don't wake up?

Go to primary games discussion. You can post new thread with any level. Yeah it's true, not enough people report it so no one cares.
