the difference is you need to install games on pc or you cant play the gamelegalize3
I'm pretty sure you don't have to install PC games. I'm pretty sure you can play them of the disc without installing them.
My god.... These are just as bad as the cows that think Blu-Ray is needed.
There absolutely no correlation between graphics, and the amount of space required on disc. Nothing. Zero. Nada.
Both the PS3 and the 360 are limited by the 512 MB of memory of things they can display on screen.

oh really like what game ?
I don't know. The 'pretty sure' part clears that up. I'm not a PC gamer anymore since a few years. But I thought it was possible. I'll just wait for someone to clarify it.

Halo 2 actually does.
Without using third party software, you can not do this...and if you use third party software, you will take a large performence loss.

All Games for Windows (Crysis) can be played directly from the disc apperently from now on, not sure how much truth Microsoft are claiming on that one, but you have the option to install still, ootherwise you couldnt use the mod/level editor.

no only a few MS games can, most GFW games can not.
Halo 2 can, and probably GOEW will also when they release it on the PC.
THANKYOU!! the only thing optimized for Blu-Ray would be a CGI heavy game like FF13My god.... These are just as bad as the cows that think Blu-Ray is needed.

Right now the only PC game that can be played directly from the CD, is Halo 2.
Without using additional software, no other PC game does this.

it doesnt instll them, my understanding is that it uses them for cache.
Besides 60GB is way to small if your gonna do that, not to mention demo's and everything else.
Well, its a PC game. PC disc format doesn't really matter since most games are installed to your hard drive.
Its the same reason some new games are still sold on regular, multiple CDs.
Although for your original argument, I think Blu-Ray on the PS3 is a complete waste. It drives the console price through the roof while providing minimal benefits.

Yeah, like the Uncharted devs said, that their demo doesn't even fit on a DVD.
I don't know if any specs have been released on how big this game will be but I can honestly predict that this game will NOT need blu ray. AT most this will ship with 2 DVDs with less then 10 gigs install. So, this begs the question, with Crysis being the most graphically and technically advanced game this generation, is Blu Ray really needed for gaming? I say No. What do you guys think? Discuss.degeneraz
Your joking right ??

Far Cry required 5 or 6 disks, as did KOTOR, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Diablo 2 required 3 disks.
The game will be a pain to install, though I doubt your computer would be able to read the Blu-Ray disks.
Not saying it's needed, but it would sure make things a lot less annoying.

Not possible. I'm sure there will be a bunch of games that will "stealth install", as in they load the first level or something, run then game, and finish installing in the background, or load data as needed, but on a PC, you simply can't do that. On a game system, you have all the system resources for read-ahead caching, on a PC you have all kinds of other things sharing that space.
Blu-Ray is primarily useful for massive amounts of pre-rendered video, and for the game systems because they can master and ship the same disc to a dozen territories because all the language files are on the same disc.

Yeah, those were cds
Most games now are comming out on dvds. Pc games have just NOW started to need cds.
I persnally don't know what you guys are talking about with the needing of blu-ray
Just because you have a game, that is on a dvd, doesn't mean it fills up the dvd. STALKER, a openended huge game only take roughtly 2 gigs up on my pc.
Crysis will praobly need 3-4 gigs of pc room, and mods aren't that big, or needed, so maybe for the hardcore people only 1 more gig.
Shoot people, the only reason why FFXIII needs blu-ray is so you have a game thats filled with 3gigs of game plays, 10 gigs of cutscenes
CryTek and Unreal Engine 3 are very efficent engines that use less storage and resources than an un-optimised engine, and thus use less space. But what about a game that uses a propietry engine?
Furthermore, it is still 2007. Do you really think that by 2010, games will not grow in size and extend beyond DVD? Mass Effect on the 360 only JUST fits onto one DVD9 disc, it is painfully obvious that the developers removed content to fit the game on the disc. They could have used an extra disc, but that costs money. The developers of Mass Effect said they laughed at the thought of Mass Effect fitting onto one DVD9 disc, so what happened? They removed content of course.

project director Casey Hudson confirmed that Mass Effect "is a monstrous game. In fact, there was a time -- not too long ago -- when we pretty much scoffed at the idea of fitting onto one disc. But, there's an art to optimizing the data that goes on a disc"; Mass Effect will fit onto a single disc -- "but just barely."

Memory in consoles and PCs is different .
RAM in the PS3, Xbox 360 or PC are virtually the same. Its just that PCs need extra RAM for Windows OS, where-as PS3 and Xbox 360 don't.
Yes they do, both consoles run an OS in memory
The 360 has double the RAM that PS3 does, but lacks a 100% hard drive installed base. PS3 can be assured of having the HD to cache to. It's a bit of a tradeoff. In my opinion MS needs to start assuming the HD, and dropping the price of 20GB to whatever it costs them in order to get the installed base up.

Its compressed while its on the disk, so it takes up a lot less space.
