Will Cyberpunk score a 10 on GS? Or lose out to Persona 5 Royal & FF7 Remake?

All a 10/10 rating does to a video game is subject it to higher levels of criticism.

Sony didn't make FF7 or Persona 5. Its odd that you are associated these games with Sony and not the actual developers.

Don't really care what it scores, all you need to know is I'm gonna play it day one and still hype for it. (Trying hard to avoid leaks)

Sony definitely knocked it out of the park with Persona 5 and FF7. No question there. As far as Cyberpunk goes, it will probably score 10s everywhere, but from what I can tell from gameplay vids the combat looks pretty simple. Not sure if that's worthy of knocking off a point or two in the end, though. Just have to wait and see.

Cyberpunk will get points deducted because it will hurt sensibilities. Also by not being a Sony exclusive it will get a small penalty.

Nah, I watched the gameplay. The graphics are ugly, music are lame, and shooting mechanics look like a PS2 game. I'll be surprised if this game score more than 7.

Barring the game being straight up broken at launch, would expect it to rake things in both critically and commercially.

Yeah, you never know though. TW3 was no prize, movement and combat were both jank out the gate. Still got the gaming Jesus treatment.

Then again, would imagine more gamers are familiar with good gunplay than there are gamers familiar with good melee combat systems. Could be cause for greater scrutiny.

That said, seems people go into these games with gameplay being lower on the list of priorities.

Absolutely when it comes to CDPR. These games really don't have solid gameplay, but the sky is the limit when it comes to praise, critically and otherwise. Witcher 3 is a prime example. I'm not a W3 hater by and stretch, but man, that combat is straight wack. The worldbuilding is on the other hand something to behold. I think that's what gets looked at critically, and the gameplay gets largely ignored. Same thing will probably happen with Cyberpunk. The game does look amaz in some ways tho.

It will be a 10 on GS and a 96 on meta. This game will be considered as the best game of the last decade and of the best games ever made.

Got to love how the OP says Sony managed to get two 10/10 games this year.

They're third party games, and 1 is a timed exclusive.

Who could possibly know? But it doesn't look like one of GS's 10s to me. I'd guess an 8 if they feel punchy or a 9 if they like feeding the hype beast (or of course of the reviewer genuinely thinks it's superb)

A game this big can't possibly be perfect. There will always be some systems in there, not because they are fun, but because there had to be something to connect these bits to the other crap over there. It's the reason I generally don't get into big open world games. Fun often gets bogged down by ambition. I have a lot of respect for stuff like GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, and The Witcher as technical achievements. But I don't really enjoy them.

That said, yeah, this will probably score a 10.

If the PC version was the only one then yeah. But since the underwhelming console versions exist it will probably get a 8 or 9.

That's an interesting point your raise. If the PC version is night and day with the consoles will they still lump all of them together into one score? That would be very misleading.

I seriously doubt it. Everything I have seen so far does anything but scream 10/10. I'm not saying it will be a bad game by any means, but I think they over promised or let people get a little too hyped. The videos I have seen haven't wowed me in any way, shape, or form.

It's inevitable that it's going to be very good. It's a passion project for the devs and they're devs who are clearly very skilled. When you combine those two things there is usually a good chance the end product will be of high quality.

We can expect a lot of attention to detail as well which often sets games apart from the pack.

@i_p_daily: well, no, but I guess I am skeptical the "everyone's a badass" won't wear a bit thin and that the typical open world game concerns won't drag things down a bit. Although the setting is "rare" it's not the first dystopian future gritty grunge game to come along and so the reviewer seems unlikely to say "you've never played anything quite like this" either. Which puts a lot of pressure on a fairly flawless execution to make it an "essential" game, and I wouldn't say cdpr is known for that

Wouldn't be surprised if some do. A lot of them are in their early 20's and even more clueless about games than us, which is a thing actually possible.

Like, some of these paid reviewers have probably never even hear of stuff like Shadowrun, be it the newer titles or stuff like the 1994 game.

@uninspiredcup: that's true. I've been playing Shadowrun Genesis lately to tide me over and these younguns wouldn't last a day in that game (mostly due to its poor controls and repetitive nature :-P; but it's still a gem IMO)

Yeah it's probably a 10. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it scored a 9 in the end. The hype surrounding this game is immense and there's bound to be disappointment in at least one department.
