Seeing as how Rocket League is a blatant rip off itself of Street Racer SNES, I'd say it's fine for EA to do so as well.

Having copiedCall Of Duty and so fourth, would it be logical to presume, based on nothing, EA will clone this game under the Fifa name?
There is a shortsighted mistake up there:
COD only exists because Activision wanted a Medal of Honor/slice of the WWII FPS $$$ pie and so it was actually Activision that hired away EA Medal of Honor talent to create the first Call of Duty...but EA does suck.
Then again, so does Activision.
It appears this was actually, actually, actually, actually, actually, actually actually, actually, actually, the shortsighted mistake, retrospectively, while Call Of Duty derived from Medal Of Honor. Medal Of Honor (2010) was a reaction to Call Of Duty 4+, with the original Call Of Duty, having never had both a strong focus on multiplayer or RPG progression system, which while it didn't invent, popularized much in the same manner Doom popularized FPS.
Terminology wise: this is why people used the term "Doom clones" as this was the aspiration, not prior fps.
As with the person above, (with the large breasted cartoon anime lady wearing shamelessly little cloths) a mistake between popularizing and inventing seems to exist. It's also possible to duplicate being oblivious of a previous similar incarnation, or adapting or inspired from such as the many adaptions of Macbeth e.g. Ran
In general terms, a ripoff is intentionally without acknowledging, creating a lesser cynical product, like a flea using a dog as an unwilling blood donor.
