Will Final Fantasy XV Be A Return To The Glory Days?

I played the demo, no, it won't be worse then XIII. They would have to **** up pretty hard to reach that point with the combat and open world they have designed.

I have zero expectations for this game, but I'd love to be wrong. Hopefully it's at least a step in the right direction.

I'm really more interested in them pushing this development hell game out the door and showing us what's next with FFXVI. At least that's one thing that can be said about the series, they're constantly switching things up. Even if XV is a bust, XVI can still be something awesome.

Watched all the Q and As, the million other presentations about the game, it's not turn-based, played the demo, and its updated version. It's also not Animu, heavy emphasis on this part.

It's the first Final Fantasy to actually interest me as I detest turn based combat, I don't know how the game will be but it looks interesting.

Are there no turn based games that you like? I mean, that's cool, it's not for everyone. But that just eliminates so many awesome games.

I used to hate the idea of turn based games, they looked like the most boring shit ever. Once I gave them a try though, I was hooked. Some of the coolest games I've played fall into that category.

Very, very few, Skies of Arcadia is the only turned based game I ever completed, it just irks me.

I never played Final Fantasy before except for the one that came out on the DS in 2005. But I think this new one is arguably the best looking console game so far.

Well, Final Fantasy XII is not turn based, strictly speaking. Maybe look into that one?

Nah, 12 went into real time combat that is sort of like what Dragon Age Origins did. XIII sort of... I actually don't know what XIII did.

XV is going to be fully real time, yeah.

Yeah, it's an odd one (in a good way).

You're not sitting there taking turns, but you're not directly controlling the action either. All the "turns" happen quickly, almost in the background. You basically "program" your party through a series of "If/Then" commands that you set up outside of battle.

Like you could tell your spell caster to cast fire if the enemy is weak to fire, but if one of your party members falls below 30% HP, then heal them instead. That's a very simple break down, obviously it goes much, much deeper than that.

In a sense, you're trying to create a well oiled machine. If you've laid out your strategy well enough, your party can mop through mobs automatically. Of course there is always a wrench thrown in that requires you to stop the action and manually input a command.

lol it sounds like a fucking drag now that I'm explaining it, but it's actually extremely addictive. You can find some really cool ass ways to "cheat" the game through the system too. It feels very rewarding when you finally get the right set up for the right situation.

Still though, if you want to be in direct control of a character, dialing in their every move, you won't find that in FFXII.

I choose not to pick none of the options. Im still enjoying the games. Every game is different though some people tend to forget that and dam the series when a entry they dont like comes out. it happened with 12 and then it happened with 13. Even some really dislike X. I personally didint care much for X myself and FF4 was so boring imo. If it wasint for the cast and story I would of dropped it.

Fucking Paradigm Shifts.

It was a poor attempt at streamlining what XII laid out. FFXII gave you control down to the micromanagement level. Everything your characters did was a direct result of your actions, good or bad. It was all about the gambits you set up, or the manual decisions you would make mid-battle.

FFXIII went for a system that was all about the overall flow of battle rather than the details. It's like "Oh I need to be attacking, I'll switch to this paradigm. Oh, now I need to cast support magic, I'll switch to that paradigm." You don't even know exactly what your characters are going to do, it's just a vague overview of actions they may take. You pretty much switch back and forth from attacking, healing, and buffing until the enemy is staggered, then you go full on offensive.

It had its moments and it was a cool enough idea, but it never felt fully developed. I don't know if they improved upon it in the sequels or not.

never hated FFXII or even FFXIII TBH, still, both were pretty mediocre titles overall and hopefully FFXV can be a title that actually leaves me impressed by the end like most past titles.

Nah. It's probably going to be the best FF game since 9, but I don't think it will touch the heights of 4 or 6.

After playing the demo my faith was restored, I also like how they are using a modified engine from FF14 ARR for FF15, freaking love that engine.

No , imho , not even close.

I used to be huge fan of the series till FF12 arrived and ruined the well known formula i was fan of. Similar to what RE4 did to RE series. Then after FF12 , FF series based on same formula and that backfired similar again to RE series.

FF15 is shiny , is glorious , will be an AAA caliber game ( production values etc ) but i doubt will provide epic story and that of memorable characters like FF5/7/9 even 10.

It's a big possibility, but that's not what SE is aiming for. It's certainly what they're hoping, of course.

Fans of FF can pretty much tell you the game is a return to the roots -plot wise- with a really innovative gameplay (compared to earlier installments that employed TBS). SE is hoping to catch that spark of revolutionary storytelling, mixed with some amazing visuals and fluid combat (e.g VII, X, XII, etc).

It's a good recipe for winning, that's for sure.

As long as it is better than XIII I am a happy man.

Based on the demo and all information about the game, all signs point to HELL NO!

It will be better than XIII because you cant get any worse than XIII, I have 0 confidence Square will get it right though. They fucked up 12, 13 and its sequels I get my RPG fix elsewhere now a days.

My reasons are the talent that was at Squaresoft back then are no longer there. They have moved on. Yeah some of the guys who worked on FFVII, VIII and IX are still there but they used to be charge of more minor things but the writing is no where near as good. Also SE seems to be afraid of making a more traditional FF experience. I think a new title in the vain of FFIX would be awesome but the new SE only delves into "realism". Thing is, their has been a resurgence in traditional RPG's lately and they've all sold well. With the $$ for marketing I think SE could be quite successful doing another title like IX.

Doubt it.. I can already tell it's going to be another one of those boring overrated open world games. Lots of empty space, world of warcraft style fetch quests galore. Square for the life of them can't do decent plots anymore without Sakaguchi and the music is just not the same. The main cast of characters is already looking to be incredibly dull, samey. If combat is anything like the demo.. lol, it's going to be even more of a button masher than FFXIII.

After XIII, XV has no where else to go but up.

I'll probably get it anyways since I have most of the games from the series.

You never know until you play it, but I think it'll be very good. I like how the combat looks, and it's got like the best graphics evar.

Let's just wait for the game and enjoy for its own merits when it comes out. Unnecessary hyping up will just lead to disappointment.

In the SNES and PlayStation days, Final Fantasy was unstoppable.

Universal critical acclaim, huge sales, and each game a trendsetter, a paradigm shifting title.

That changed with the move to the PS2 first, where each subsequent entry divided popular opinion, and then the PS3, where the entire series just fell apart with the worst received games in the franchise.

Thankfully, Final Fantasy XV looks pretty great- but is it a return to form? Will Final Fantasy XV be the kind of glorious game that Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX were? Or will it simply be an improvement over the disastrous Final Fantasy XIII?

You forgot about FFX, which also had universal critical acclaim, huge sales, was a paradigm shifting trendsetter, and has appeared on many lists of all-time greatest games.

It was only after FFX that the series started its downward spiral, with FFXI, FFX-2 and FFXII each dividing popular opinion with their experimental gameplay, before the franchise hit rock-bottom with FFXIII.

Not sure. I don't own a console though so if they don't make a pc version I'll never know.

I don't even have faith in the game releasing in 2016. Square is run by a bunch of fools now.

They'll have to improve on that demo a lot before I even consider it a good game let alone a return to Final Fantasy's glory days.

Sure you can, but that just sucks. It becomes a slow, frustrating game for no reason. The systems the game has in place are fun.

Thing is NyaDC favors a game that is direct action, he wants the hack n slash. I was just letting him know that FFXII is not that.

14 already is the best FF in years, Hell id even say is the best FF to date.
