I've been wondering this for a while, and I'd thought I'd ask everyone here: what do you think the price of games will be next-gen? Are we going to see the $60 standard pricetag for console games (and some PC) remain the same, or are we likely to see games jump in price ($70 or $80) aspublishers try to recoup the costs of more expensive development for games? I would hope they remain at the current level, but I can't help but think that next-gen we might see $70 games.

they'll keep rising until the game market starts declining.

i really don't know, but developers really need to learn how to manage costs better.

I think they are reluctant to do that. Instead I guess they will try to expand the other ways of getting paid (DLC, charging for online etc). Maybe more product placement? DD is likely to grow and I think they have greater margins on that. Just some thoughts, could be wrong :D!

Probably. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if games went up to $70 next gen.

Might stay at $60, but it really depends on dev costs and all that jazz.:?

In all honesty, I doubt we will see a decrease in price any time soon. If anything, I wished the 3DS games were at $30, just like the PSP titles. Hell Mario Kart DS is STILL $45!:|

Nintendo, drop dem prices! TP is ALSO @ it's launch price of $59.99 around here!:x

Most likely. Activision and THQ are already charging 70 for some games. They'll keep raising prices till games stop selling... having no idea that lower prices makes more sales.

$60 will probably remain standard. What I wonder is if we'll see the advent of things like standardized single-use CD keys to try and kill off the used market.

70 bucks is 10 dollars too much.

the sweet spot would be 50-40 bucks. They would sell more new copies if they just did it that way.

nah, DLC is the new cash cow for these devs and publishers... 60 bucks will remain... what I want is a go anywhere digital distribution that will allow me to download games and make access to my collection easy from any console. prices could even drop if we had no hard copy.

Agreed, but the scary part about that theory would be that devs wouldonly put out partially finished games....milking the heck out of us with DLC.

I don't think there was one in UK, I remember it being £40 for a couple of gens now.

I may be wrong though.

If console games have digital downloads available at launch they might not.

I blame the casuals

Publishers spend so much money on marketing in trying to appeal to them and in the end the game only winds up worse

PC-wise, I think they are dropping the $59.99 price back to $49.99. Ubisoft has started dropping. Some EA titles are $49.99 (although I expect Battlefield 3 to keep the $59.99). A lot of PC Games are even dropping to $44.99 or $39.99.

Console-wise. I am going to assume a price increase but if the consoles aren't a huge leap in tech, then the current price point will stay.

If a game cost more than $40, then I don't buy it until it drops to that price or lower.

They seemed to do so from last generation to this generation so if that's anything to go by then there's a good chance of VG prices going up ever more next generation.

Yes. Most games last gen on consoles were $40-$50.
