I want a long game so will this have this type of sidequest or what.

Guilds are unlikely, but it will probably have side-quests like Baldurs Gate or KOTOR.
Also, why would you want guilds like those in Oblivion? Wouldn't you want guilds like those in Morrowind?

Mess loads of sidequests, no guilds.

Sorry, I never tried Vanilla Oblivion. Went straight to mods. So basically, I dunno what it's like lol.

Oblivion had ~five guilds (Fighter, Mage, Thief, Assassin and Arena), although the types of guild didn't really matter much - most of the quests for every guild could easily be done by a magic-less, stealth-less fighter.
Morrowind had, like, 15 guilds (?), most of which actually required specialisation in their fields (for example, a member of the Mages Guild actually required high-level magic skills in order to be promoted).
The guild quests also 'intersected', in that some quests prevented you from becoming the leader of every guild. For example, you could only side with one Great House in the game, and the final few Thieves Guild quests required you to kill the leaders of the Fighters Guild.
So...yeah, Oblivion had a few short guild quest-chains, which most characters should be able to easily complete, while Morrowind had lots of difficult guilds that forced the character to actually pick a role and stick with it.
Not that it matters, since Mass Effect doesn't appear to have any guilds.
