Will Mass Effect's combat be fun or boring?

Will all the pausing in Mass Effect's combat become tedious and boring, or will it be fun and tactical?

I dunno, I never played KOTOR.

RPG not an action game. Buy Halo 3 or Orange Box if you want an action shooter. Not every game needs to be about twitch gameplay.TiberiusKane

From what Ive seen of this game, the dialogue is a lot like KOTOR, but the combat seems to be real time as in Fable or Rainbow 6 Vegas. I'm not real sure what 'twitch gameplay' is, but it looks more tactical than something like Halo.

KOTOR seemed cool, but the combat was just not right to me. The only reason I like RPGs is because the west finally started putting out good ones. I can't play JRPGs because the combat was always out of my hands when I wanted TOTAL control. Looks to me like Mass Effect may just be the one.

I'm sure if you expect it to play like Gears of War or something you will be sorely disappointed. But if its anything like KOTOR it should be a lot of fun once you get the hang of things and start modifying stuff.JiveT

A lot of people do act like it's supposed to be a shooter, which is mystifying. I guess they see the over-the-shoulder view + guns being shot, and they think that makes it a shooter. Those people deserve to be disappointed. The game's an RPG, created by a company that almost exclusively makes RPGs . And really good ones, at that.

Yeah it might make it a hard sell to the public at large but hopefully if its as good as Game Informer says the big media outlets will hype it enough that people will take a chance on it.

Alright, I've watched the recent gameplay movies, it looks like the player is runing around with a gun, using a reticle, and aiming at enemies. You guys have to face it man, the game has guns, and guns get shot. Why would you need a game to shoot FOR you as a turn based game when you can just do it yourself? The RPG element just enriches the experience. But as i said before, the combat looks a lot like Rainbow six Vegas with magical powers, which isn't bad at all.

Eh I was way more excited for this game before watching the combat. Environments look bad and the gameplay is like a bad shooter mashed with a turn based combat. I dunno I just expected something more. I'll give it a shot but I don't see it being too fun pausing every 2 seconds and reaiming.Lazy_Boy88

Yeah we know it's not on PS3 so your not going to like it.

I hope its good.

If not i'll be questioning my purchase of it.
