we see that sony is trying to implement motion in their console and MS are also probably trying to go that route. I would really love 1:1 motion for the ps3 so I can play games like COD5 rather than games like red steel for the wii.

But do you think this format will take over the good ol controller? Or will it be an optional control scheme in most games? I couldn't imagine constantly waving my hands around for hours at a time either and the classic control scheme has been around since the 70s...

maybe next will be a helmet with built in LCD so when you turn your head it turns the display in full motions. You heard it here first!

They'll probably be optional especially considering fighting games. But it is fact that companies are seeing the possibilities of it in FPS and the such and are copying it. So for FPS I'll say it probably will be mandatory but for other genre's probably optional. Oh, and RedSteel for the Wii doesn't have 1:1 motion controls. RedSteel 2 will along with online play and voice chat. Yet another innovation that everyone is going to copy from Nintendo but that's a story for another System Wars thread.

I hope not, I prefer resting my hands either on my lap(with a gamepad) or on the desk(with kb/m).

If motion control becomes standard they better improve it because I think it is pretty crappy right now.

Nintendo has shown at their crappy conference that they are implementing a add-on device called Motion Plus that comes with Wii-Sports Resort which is going to accurately detect the user's motions. The Wiimote by itself was not Accurately 1:1.

motion controls are godawful, as least in their current Wii format.

Seriously, the Wii remote was a gimick that had limited use. Do i really want to wave my arms around, just to play a game? hell no. i play games to relax, if i wanna work out i will go to the gym.

yeah I know about motion plus, it's what the ps3 wiimote already comes equipped with. it's what the wiimote should have had in the first place. I didn't even know it wasn't 1:1 until the motion plus was talked about. I just assumed devs didn't use the 1:1 capabilities.

Agreed on the fact that the Wiimote should've come with it to begin with but they did that so companies trying to copy them would copy the less accurate concept. Kinda smart and dumb at the same time. Yeah, it's close to 1:1 on certain games but not full 1:1 until Motion plus releases. The fact that the PS3 is trying to make their version proves that Motion Controls aren't all bad like people make them out to be. Sony sees that Nintendo is making a killing off of it and they want to cash in on it too. It's cheesy of Sony IMO but I also understand that it's a business and they have to do what is necessary to make money because so far the PS3 has been a disaster. Its sad because it has the best hardware but gets skimped on Exclusives, XBOX 360 games are developed at higher resolution than PS3 games which should be the other way around and XBOX 360 gets exclusive content that PS3 doesn't get.

motion controls havent proven themselves to be that useful yet. Pointer controls on the otherhand... hopefully they will be. Dual analog feels so last gen.

We'll have to see how good M+ is first, really.

Either way, if MS and Sony are smart, they will at least have pointers on the next controllers.

And even if they do go full motion control, I still don't see them having as few buttons as the wiimote does.

I hope not, but since it's new and has been proved profitable, the companies will surely try to take advantage of them, I just hope not like Nintendo...

if they become accurate and come with somewhat current gen technology(unlike wii) then maybe. i think we've all had that dream where use use a light saber or long sword or feel like your actually swinging a bat or shooting a gun however right now it doesn't seem anthing can give us that ammount of depth and still be cost effective
